Youre bees are so much calmer than mine. I would never dream of opening the hive without having a suit on.
This was great, but the sound problems were often when you were saying something interesting :)
Perhaps next time you doing a hive inspection and find queen cells it may be an idea to explain the difference between swarm and supercedure cells.
Just a thought.
That was a fascinating video. I learned several things, such as that both outside and inside surfaces of the roof should be sealed with a good paint. I wasn't sure about that after hearing that only the outsides of the major hive components should have a coating applied. Having written that, I intend to coat the outsides of the brood box and super with Thompson Water Seal. It's popular in the States for use on equipment exposed to moisture. Do you approve, Flow crew?
EDIT: I searched beekeeping forums and found mixed reviews on TWS. Apparently, many beekeepers do use it. However, several commented that it doesn't last more than two years, then the outsides of the hive require re-coating. The reviews are from 2011. I think they now have several formulae. The one I have is TWS "Barely Tinted" - "Natural Cedar".
Glad it was helpful!
I have a Flow Hive 2+ with room for seven frames in the brood box. The nuc that I will be transferring to the brood box has five frames of bees. I infer that I will only ever need two of the frames that are included with the 2+ full complement of components. In fact, my beekeeper did confirm that I will be transferring the five frames and putting two Flow frames outermost, one one either side. If all the foregoing is correct, I guess I should still assemble, glue, and nail up all the included frames and put them in a safe place in case of need at a later date. Comment?
Actually, there are TEN frames, not seven as I wrote above. All ten of them fit into the brood box. So I guess I should place three empty frames on one end, two on the other, and the five from the nuc in the middle. Does that sound right?
Do you paint the interior of the box?
do white ants affect the flowhive timber
If we are transferring from non flow frames, how do we eventually move them to all flow frames? Will the system work with the frames we get when we purchase our nuc?
Someone is keeping the finger on the mic every now and then 😉
Why did you have to transfer the frames..? Why didn’t you just put that box onto the stand?
He said you can but this video is to show us how.
