- This episode celebrates 1000 Subscribers! This time we answers fans of the channel's request for an analysis of a historical book of magic. What if you were to stumble onto an actual copy of the something like the Necronomicon of HP Lovecraft / Evil Dead lore? How would you go about actually reading it? Here, we discuss at length, the various processes scholars perform to understand medieval books - from book binding, to writing media, to medieval Latin and the complex set of abbreviations that often encode the writing of the middle ages - by looking at a page from CLM 849 or the Munich Necromancer's Manual. As you will see, this specific spell is uses demonic magic to produce a magical cloak capable of rendering the magus invisible to all all manner of beings.

I used to be a necromancer, then I took an arrow to the knee.
The ability to write in the margins is one of the reasons that I love paper books. E-books and audiobooks are convenient, but think of the generations of thoughts that are being lost.
Roast you? Great Scott Man, the more I learn about you the more awsome I find you. It is becoming increasingly apparent that you are one of the most learned, most skilled indeed most impressive human beings that I have ever even read about much less had the honour, the exquisite delight of actually achieving a communication with. I know that the acknowledgement of a comment in a You Tube series is not quite a communication but you get the idea. Thank you for everything, you are deeply appreciated. I hope that your life is as full as you make other people's.
Loved it. "Ancient evil is not going to release itself" Informative and funny!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this doesn't work.
Very interesting all in all, this video is packed with all kinds of small tidbits that a layman like myself would never realize (lack of punctuation in lating, the nature of the word Gothic etc) that really help to keep interest throughout a fairly long video. Little bits of dry humor help a lot as well.
"an undergraduate working as a scribe doing a little necromancy on the side." the more things change, the more they stay the same. "it wasn't well known outside the people who owned it." so it's a hand me down cliff notes. messy and near illegible. starting to really identify with this student. an invisibility spell.....heh, I didn't need a spell for that in college, fml.
Man, I love your quips and interjections, I've watched a bunch of your videos now and I feel that you do a great job of interjecting humor into your videos and just make the topics even more engaging
Lmao “so this one’s good for vegetarian and vegan necromancers” lmao
Finally an option for vegan necro's

It amuses me how similar magical practice is to finding some kind of exploit in a videogame. Go to this box and if you have the sniper rifle equipped and jump backwards just as someone is going through the door you can actually glitch through the wall which gives you the ability to spawn an invisibility cloak. If not done in time however the system will recognize you're exploiting and boot you from the game.
I just got to this video and the announcement about reaching 1000 subscribers when you currently have 616K subscribers was something else. You've come a long way in a relatively short amount of time.
Real Necronomicon - necromancer's cookbook.

That was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be, I learned quite a bit. Thank you!
