Have you ever taped a puzzle like this before? Would you try it with one of your puzzles?
i will Yes trying
Yes, I use contact paper wich works really good. Also get it at the Dollar Store . Love your channel!
Karen Puzzles yes i taped my puzzles more than ones but i did it by different way, i use clear tape and put it from the front and I don't need to take it off and do it again, but ur method seems easier.. i'll try it
Hi Jaren, this is a great idea, I just finished glueing one. Wish I would of seen this before hand. A picture frame as some have suggested would be too expensive for me for the size of puzzles we do
Why u r talking like this
It's so bad
But u r beautiful
I don't tape my puzzles, or glue them, but I do buy some really cheap frames from walmart and some poster board. I flip the puzzle and without doing anything to them and I lay the poster board behind it and sandwich the back of the frame back on. The friction from the poster board keeps the puzzle from sliding around, and you can switch the puzzle in the frame at any time. I have several on my walls currently, and since I'm in a college dorm, everything is temporary :) I love looking at my puzzles every day when I get up, but with a growing collection, I'm getting more and more used to switching them out each week or so. This is one of my favorite things to do as I hate the permanence of gluing and I'm scared to damage the puzzles, but the frame method works really well for me!
Can you make the video please
Do you buy the frame as the exact measurements of the puzzle? Is it a certain one you buy in walmart?
@@benfbell I frame most of my puzzles this way, a lot of puzzles are in standard frame dimensions which is nice, but if not you just need a frame bigger than the puzzle with some sort of matte boarding to hold it in place.
Smort
I would love a video on this because I'm having a hard time what you mean about putting the frame on the poster board and how you're switching out the puzzles. Would love to hang some of my puzzles in my new apartment
You can use a hairdryer to heat and soften the glue on the tape, so it doesn’t damage the back cardboard ✨
mixho Such a good idea!
Wont that leave residue on the cardboard instead?
Gilani Gilani I would think it depends on how much you heat it up and what type of adhesive you use. Painters tape would most likely be okay.
Gilani Gilani yes, it depends on the tape and the heat :)
@@gilanigilani Painters tape is designed to not leaving any residue, so I think it would be okay:)
I've never glued a puzzle. I always use clear contact paper to cover the front and some of the back. But I use my puzzles as placemats or "tablecloths". They clean easily and look cute.
That actually sounds very useful, what a great idea
Though I would only do that to puzzles I really enjoy the design of
One nifty trick is to take a rolling pin to the puzzle before gluing/taping them. It makes the surface of the puzzle extra smooth making it easier to glue/tape!
ooh, I love that tip!
Brilliant!
Learn something new all the time thanks!
I tape all my puzzles with painters tape. For me personally I don’t see the point to undo a puzzle no matter how much I enjoyed doing it because I’m not a full time puzzler and I’m not immortal either hehe. There are so many great puzzles out there waiting to be put together that for me it doesn’t make sense to waste time in redoing an old one. I do love the idea of the washi tape, but yes you’re right it’s not financially viable, especially because you wouldn’t be able to see it. I will try the contact paper, I guess it would work better for me as like I said I glue them permanently. Thank you for your post!
Same here! Why do all that puzzling just to take apart. What's the fun in that?? 🤷♀️
I also don't have a reason to take apart a puzzle. I just wanted to glue them somehow (puzzle glue was a mistery to me, also expensive and rare). So i've taped them on the back. It works so and so. The puzzle is not rigid by any strech and any bending will lead to pieces falling. Also glue from a tape is a hit and miss. Paper tape seems to hold well and long. Packing tape workes ok initialy but fades in about a year or two and just lets go of the pieces. Exterior grade tape works ok but there is still a lot of movement in the pieces. After trying with spray glue and some sheets of paper on the back (coverage of the spray is not uniform enough, some pieces need some touchups.
My absolute best method and also the cheapest (i avoid puzzle glues that go on the face of the puzzle), is wood glue and a sheet of paper.
So i have a lot of scrap A0 paper (technical drawings) and pour about 100 grams of wood glue in the center of the paper and spread it out with a large spreading card (the automotive bodywork type, 150mm wide, steel flexible). Spread the wood glue on that paper, and then flip it onto the puzzle (the back side of it of course). Press it well. I like to flip it again to rest face up while drying so no wood glue will creep and seep to the front of the puzzle. This wood glue is by far the cheapest i can get and the most strurdy construction. Glue is present in the puzzle piece joints as well. And the wood glue bond to the paper and cardboard very well, impreganting them and hardening them. It feels like a heavy solid piece of cardboard.
Price is 5euro/L for wood glue, even cheper if you buy by the bucket or gallon. I bet is going to cover 10-20k pieces or more.
I'm skeptical about puzzle glues. 1st they are expensive (i've only ever seen ravensburger at 10euro 200ml for about 2000-4000pieces), and second idk how i would not leve streaks or add gloss on top, or any other modification. I like the puzzle look as it is so never tried dedicated puzzle glues.
This is how I am I'm about to start buying puzzles and I'm not taking it apart after I did all that work putting it together
Do you prefer glue or painters tape?
@@pezdacandyboi painters tape
I learned this trick from your 24000 piece puzzle. But I just saw this video. As someone who never takes their puzzles apart I really like the painters tape method. This was a very great idea that I feel like helps thousands of people.
I made my very first 1000 piece puzzle last week (a golf one) and I used your taping technique. I used 2 inch painters tape and did it twice. I then mounted the project on a hard foam board and placed a hanger in behind. It looks amazing on the wall and as Karen says, I can take it apart in the future if I want to do it again. No glue, no steaks, no super glossy mess. I love it and thanks ❤️.
Rob Boyle what did you use to mount the taped puzzle to the foam board?
@@pams3887 I used two way carpet tape. The carpet tape worked for a couple of days only though. I came home to see the puzzle on the ground. The puzzle wasn't damaged. I ended up using two alligator style clamps and that did the trick. Karen Puzzles used the same alligator clips in her video. I wish I could attach a picture but I don't think we can on CZcams. Rob
If you guys are planning on taping puzzles for long periods of time or are worried about any cardboard peeling off of the back, you can just pre-stick your tape! Stick your painter's tape down to any clean surface once or twice to take away some of its glue, once you do this they become about as sticky as a post-it note. Definitely sticky enough to keep your puzzles together, but not enough to damage them! And it's better to have less glue on your tape if you plan to leave your puzzles taped together for long periods of time. Hope this helps! Happy puzzling everybody!
Thanks for the tip!
Scotch makes a “wall safe” tape that we’ve used to keep small portions of puzzles together for storage (since we don’t have a dedicated puzzle table). It works really well and in what we’ve used had little to no cardboard tearing!
I never glued a puzzle either. I buy a frame that is basically two panes of glass and the puzzle is between them. Love the look of it the most✨
Where do you buy your frames from?
Problem with tape is that it will bond harder and harder over time as the sticky stuff hardens so if you leave it for say a month it might tear away much more cardboard
Do you do the puzzle over and over again?
When i finish mines i just think about the next one
Me too, I don't like to take apart puzzles, I hang them on the wall, I choose them like I would artwork!
She does them a few times and once she gets tired of it she donates them!
@@Josefina24_ with sooo many puzzles to get, I don't know what the point of doing them over again is.
I am fine with doing each puzzle only once.
Most puzzles I do once then give them away. But there are a few favorites that I do yearly. They have pictures I enjoy seeing unfold gradually.
I've never taped a puzzle only glued them. Maybe using a hair dryer to warm up the tape as you pull it off the puzzle would help with tearing the piece. Happy puzzleing!
Thank you for this video. I did my first puzzle in years a month or so ago but then didn't know that to do with it afterwards. I split it into 4 sections, painters taped it and put in the box. Now I know I can probably take if off and redo it!! Thank you!!
it a amazing idea to tape the puzzle! i ve searched for a video about how to frame or hang a puzzle without gluing or glue from the back of the puzzle and this video is absolutely what i was looking for. thank you sooo much.
What a good idea! I would never have thought of tape. I have in the past glued really nice puzzles and framed them but usually only 1000 pieces plus.
Thank you. This is my first time of trying to preserve a puzzle. I learned to see how easy it is. I liked your presentation and the information between the degree of difficulty and the cost for each one.
I usually only glue puzzles that take me a really long time to do, usually puzzles of landscapes or other monochrome puzzles. These puzzles are better decor pieces and also you don't have to spend that long again to put the puzzle together. I've never tried taping puzzles but that sounds like a great temporary solution!
I was so worried for that beautiful owl jigsaw. Glad it survived!
This is so smart! I’ve glued puzzles together and then wished I could do them again.
I loved this video! I have never glued a puzzle before either. I might try tape now just for the fun of it. I have however in the past bought frames from thrift stores that match the size of the puzzle I want to hang up. Usually the puzzle fits snuggly between the layers and stays put nicely. The biggest challenge is to get the right size frame for the puzzle you want to display though.
That's a great idea too!
This is so clever! The clips look really cool for hanging too! Also, your living room looks super cute!
This was holding back on finishing my puzzle because I was reluctant to use glue and didn't want to frame it but still wanted to display it. This video was uploaded literally when I needed it. Haha, I was ridiculously happy about it. So, I finished the puzzle today and taped it up using masking tape. Have my bulldog clips ready - just need to hammer some nails to the wall :) Super excited to start my new 1500 pc puzzle of a Parisian street corner.
Perfect timing! Let me know how it goes for you!
Painter's Tape - Brilliant! No mess and it's cheap. Thank you!
Big fan of your channel!!!! My method to store puzzles. I don’t glue or tape them. I go too my local craft store and have custom picture frames made. Anywhere from $5-$20 a frame
I find this so fascinating, I've never thought of using tape before! I usually frame my puzzles, but without glue. In a picture frame they usually stay in place pretty well and I could take them out and take them apart anytime I wanted to. :)
Using a picture frame to wedge them in there is a great idea too!
I thought gluing them was the only method. A time consuming method too. But from now on I’m gonna use painters tape. Thank you Karen!
I always used the puzzle glue, but your method is way better, easier and cheaper to do. Thanks for the idea. I’m going to do it with your suggested painterstape. 😊
Such a good idea! Also the bulldog clips, that's a very elegant and at the same time cheap way to hang up a puzzle. I'm going to try it. :)
This channel has helped me as a beginner so much. I am going to use a firm card art folder I already had to assemble my jigsaw. It folds open so if I fold it back then use other half to cover jigsaw as I go, also can flip easily. Love the tape idea and I think I will buy some nice decorative clips to hang from a stationery store, they come in a variety of colours. Thanks Karen.
I’ve had a Harry Potter puzzle I’ve been wanting to hang up forever but I didn’t want to glue it or use a big custom frame, this should work perfectly
Let me know how it goes for you! And tag me on Instagram if you take a picture when you hang it up!
Loved the video. Definitely will try the painter's tape!
Interesting, But I‘d not use any of those... I framed a puzzle 10+ years ago in a regular Frame, no glue or anything and it still holds up really well. And if I wanted, I could take it all apart without any damage whatsoever. 😎
That works too if you have a frame that's the right size to fit your puzzle!
I had my kids pics taken and order a print in puzzle form. It came framed. 10 yrs later I broke the frame in a move and the puzzle was as good as new.
Many years ago, I used Mod podge glue to adhere a puzzle together and used a cardboard frame to hang it. This worked well until I got bored with the picture and threw it away after a few years. This method was a permanent solution but I did not try to take it apart. Thanks, Karen for your videos.
I love hanging puzzles, not all at once mind you. But nice to have a few to swap out in a location for the seasons, holidays, or just to change up the hanging art in the house. For me, doing a puzzle is like reading, I'm always racing to finish and dont really enjoy myself till it's finished. The process is tedious, but the satisfaction of finishing is worth the effort!
Thank you very much. I used to take my puzzles when I was ten. I'm 50 now LOL. Back then we didn't have painters tape though. We had masking tape. I use painters tape for lots of things and it comes off easy. Masking tape not so much. The painters tape will be better than gluing them. And cheaper as well. Also no mess using tape. Thank you again. You got a new subscriber. I will buy the painters tape from the dollar store much more cheaper than Amazon. Harbor Freight also has cheap painters tape.
FYI - 3M makes a "low tack" painters tape that would even be less damaging and also leaves no residue. Not sure if it would hold the puzzle together as well but It'd be worth a try for folks worrying about damaging a puzzle. Thanks for the video!
I need to get my hands on that! I wonder if it would still be sticky enough to hold all the pieces in place.
@@KarenPuzzles That's the big question. I use it for taping tracing paper over vellum when I'm drafting sometimes and it doesn't even damage tracing paper! I think it would work holding a puzzle but needs to be tested.
Have any of you guys tested it eventually?
I love the doughnut puzzle 😍😍😍
And love the idea of taping the back...genious 😉😊😊😊
I did a 550 Ceaco puzzle of candy about a week ago that gives me similar vibes. My mom got a big collection two years ago, but she was diagnosed with cancer a few months later. She’s not been able to puzzle, between feeling terrible and her cancer treatments messing with her vision. But she knows I’m going stir crazy, so she sent me a stack of puzzles.
I wanted to give her the first puzzle back, finished, with a new copy of the puzzle to do herself. Like a, “Hey, I did this, but you or we can do this when you get better,” gesture. But I’ve had an issue finding it so far, so I think this idea of taping is a good idea. I’m not messing up the puzzle that way. 🤔
@@SunflowerSpotlight Did you mean to comment on the video or comment on this comment?
Honestly, I don't want to do the same puzzle once I finished the one. I might give it to someone as a gift. 😂 Thanks, Karen. You are amazing!
I love how sweet and endearing you are in all your videos.
Huh never thought of tape... I'll tell my grandma next time I see her cause she glues her puzzles but idk if she's ever thought of taping them. I'm definitely gonna be getting me some painters tape just for this reason.
When I want to hang a jigsaw Puzzle on the wall, i just use a simple picture frame. Works fine, looks nice and when I take it off the wall, I can easily take the puzzle apart and store it in its box or do it again.
But if I will ever want to glue a puzzle permanently, I will definitely remember the tape :)
Picture frames don’t really come in large puzzle weird sizes.
I am doing "Tree of Life" by Eeboo now. It is soo beautiful, I am going to hang it for a while using painters tape. I finally have a house that has a place to puzzle and I am so happy to be back. Since finding your channel I have learned so much about how to buy the best made puzzles and really appreciate it after getting cheap knock offs which are not fun. I can just sit and watch your videos for hours. I put out a puzzle and work on it for a week since I only have have minutes at a time not hours but its fantastic to see you work. I love your personality. We would be great friends in IRL.
Im very impressed for this method, i havent thought about this!, love your channel. My congrats from México city, hope you come someday
Hi! I love this idea! I am going to try this! My family is stuck at home and my daughters completed a puzzle we’d like to hang. I accidentally bought some blue duct tape (I thought it was painter’s tape.) I think it would work perfectly! (We don’t want to do the puzzle again.) Thanks!
I prefer to frame my puzzles without any glue or tape.
And your channel is awesome.👍👌
Super idée !! J’adore et j’adopte immédiatement !! 👍👍👍👍 merciiiiiii 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video.... If I so desire, I always use contact paper and it works perfectly. All good. Thanks for all of your great videos and suggestions.
brilliant video!
Hi karen i just discoverd you channel yesterday and i love it. I see very much reseblance between out puzzelingmethodes and taste. I also like the colourfull type of puzzels and hate the landscapes. I never glues a puzzle before and i have a very big collection of puzzles. Just for the same reason, i want do do them again so the tape method is verry smart maby i will try that to. Thanx for chating all you tips and trics and honest reactions
I'm in love with puzzle 😊😊
Thanks for that amazing ideas 😊☺️
Watching you destroy the puzzle is so satisfying 😍
Neat! I have never glued one of my puzzles either (or taped haha) never thought of hanging it up either, great idea! :D :D
This is such an easy method! I'm going to try this with the velcro 3m strips to hang it. Also if you want to give it a clean finished look, you could give it a little frame with wood moldings or a thin strip wood.
Yes more videos. I enjoyed this..
Interesting. I like that look, complete puzzle without a frame and the added bonus of breaking the puzzle apart. 👍👍
Great video! I’ve thrifted an art puzzle the other day (Girl with the pearl earring) and I thought about hanging it on my wall. But I’ve never glued a puzzle and it scares me. This is going to be so much easier and I like that it’s not permanent!
Let me know how it goes for you! And tag me on Instagram if you take a picture when you hang it up!
I love your energy and your passion n dedication for what you love! New subscriber.. I cant stop watching your videos! 😁
This video has been sitting in my saved videos for a while and I finally decided to check it out. I quickly decided that I don't care about tapings puzzle to temporarily display though I do like the idea another commented stated in putting the finished puzzle in a frame with glass cover which will hold it together.
But mostly I don't care about saving puzzles to do later. I am in my upper 60's with a couple dozen finished puzzles that are glued and will display. Then there are another 20 odd puzzles a few of which I will display temporarily. Maybe half of these puzzles are classic paintings from the Renaissance to the impressionist which are my favs. To each his own.
Thank you ...it was so useful
Interesting! I’ve done hundreds of puzzles and never done the same one more than once.
Once I finish I take a few mins to enjoy (seal it with puzzle glue if it’s one I love and want to keep/hang) then start a new one. My town has a free board on FB so I give away ones I’ve done and don’t like to hang then get ones others have already done.
OMG OMG OMG you have an aladdin puzzle! That is my absolute favorite movie!
Great video!!! I've not thought about taping a puzzle together!! Thx for testing this for us.
I love your videos and puzzles. Making a video about kinds of puzzle glue would be great. I still don't know which one is the best.
Ravensburger makes a good glue go to toys and the same aisle that has rubiks cubes, board games and legos also has puzzle stuff, you should find the glue there.
Hi Karen!
Thanks for making this video.. I just finished a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that im planning to hang..
I am new to puzzles but I have used Clear Packaging tape on the backs of my puzzles before framing, but the frames are expensive especially for some of the odd size puzzles I have done. I was looking for a different way to hang them and the binder clips seem like a winner! I have not tried removing the tape yet but I will try at some point.
Great idea 👍
That's brilliant ❤
Really good idea! I think it would be even better to put on the tape diagonally on the puzzle so its easier to peel off later, since the pieces will stay in their grid
Good ideas!
Great ideas!!
Cool review
Interesting video!
Karen, if you overlap the painter's tape like you did and pull from the side you first put down it will come off in one piece (including the vertical pieces you put on last). I haven't taped any puzzles before (but now I will) but I know that's how this tape works because I actually use it when I paint and I pull it off when I'm done in one big piece. People don't use the green or yellow tape because they have stronger glue and you might rip more of the back of the puzzle.
I glued my 1000 pieces puzzles together and framed them up in my bedroom. They look very good😘
I liked the blue tape, I may stick with that for awhile, lol, but it seems to work pretty good! I enjoyed watching your channel!👍
I hate dealing with puzzle glue, but my kids like to use puzzles as posters in their rooms (we have 5 kids) so we glue a lot of puzzles.. I feel like the painters tape thing is going to change my life!!
Amazing! Let me know how it works out for you!
I like all the jigsaw methods..glueing, the tape, and using just frames with mattes or backing. Regardless they all get frames. But I do love the clips idea. 👍 TY.
Usually the longer you leave any tape before removal the firmer the hold and harder to remove and there is a warning on painters tape re long term. The exception is probably your average sticky tape. Probably a good solution for temporary display. The suggestion of warming the tape sounds good to A while ago I did read about a puzzle conserver which allowed the puzzle to be protected and together but was also light enough to enable the puzzle to be taken apart if wanted. I can't recall the brand as I had no interest in hanging puzzles.
The other option regarding the contact paper is going to the thrift shop since you really do not care what the back looks like there are always rolls for sale there at about from .25 to a buck a roll.
Amazing video, what about larger puzzle sets, like 1000 or more pieces? Because of increasing amount of pieces the puzzle weight increase too.
Great content, love to see more and more colorful and unique puzzles:)
tambien amo los puzzle y me encanta tu canal

Have you tried the pink painter's tape for delicate surfaces? It's supposed to be good on wallpaper.
Amazing ♥️
Thanks 💕

Very nice 👍🏽
Such a good idea and such a fun video. Now my 2 kids want to do this with their kid's animal puzzles that they got for Christmas :-)
i accidentally glued my puzzle pieces to the floor before and i never wanted to glue my 2nd puzzle ever again.
i just directly put them into frames. :D
i dont really have much good boards to work on new puzzles, so i use the back of the puzzle frame boards every time when i have a new puzzle to work on.
and i will keep the puzzle in place and keep them in the puzzle box without destroying them. like in layers. haha
We use page laminate rolls on the back of the puzzle. It sticks well to the back..and you can pull the pieces off without residue. Cost effective as well.
What kind of puzzles do you like? Glossy or matt ?
Great job on presenting several techniques that don’t permanently change the puzzle. I don’t glue puzzles because it isn’t my decorating style. You should try diamond painting.
What is diamond painting? I've never heard of it!
@@KarenPuzzles Diamond painting is a bit like puzzling but your puzzle pieces are small rhinestones. They have to be put on a picture grid (which has a sticky surface) on the right spot (that's the "puzzling" part, but you get a guide) to create a shiney and beautiful picture that catches all the light reflections and sparkles.
I love the comparison and the after-removal effect! I want to hang my 4D Game of Thrones puzzle, so I can't use frame for it obviously and don't want to use glue as well as I want them to be easily taken apart (relocation or just re-doing). Those methods are perfect fit. I'll experiment also with low tack painters tape to minimaze the damage. Have you tried using clear laminate foil? Is it removable? How much does it peel off?
I am still wondering how I am gonna "glue" those foam puzzle pieces to the paper ones? Anyone has any ideas? One way I thought of is double-sided low tack clear tape (could someone recommend any low tack one?). The other might be putty. Do you guys think putty won't leave traces and stains on the paper jigsaw?
I wonder if you used a craft sealant on the back before taping it if the cardboard would come out in better shape?
Might try the painters tape with a vintage wooden puzzle I have. Fingers crossed it doesn’t peel up any of the paint on the backing or the board. 🤞🏻
This is a great video never thought of tape but i do have a question. Im currently doing a 2000 piece and 3000 next time. How would i flip it over without it falling apart to then tape it?
Hey Karen, i was wondering if you might have some advice on how to fix a puzzle that i have.i have one piece that the picture of the puzzle that has been peeled of the cardboard and i have misplaced the cardboard part and im wondering how i can fix it to complete the puzzle
Trace it onto an old cereal box as many times as it takes to get the same thickness of cardboard and then glue all of the layers together!
I framed a few puzzles with absolutely no glue, I bought a picture frame that fits the puzzle size exactly and just put the puzzles in there, so the back of the frame and the glass front keep them together just because physics (luckily the Ravensburger 1000 piece puzzles are the standard format of 50x70cm and it's easy to find a frame for that)
