  • Almost 200 people, mostly women, have been murdered in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, accused of witchcraft and sorcery. Witch-hunting is a prevalent practice in Assam and neighbouring states among many indigenous communities.
    To try and decode the complex reasons behind why some people become scapegoats in land disputes, crop failures or even ostracised for their own religious practices, we meet women who were branded as witches and local activists who are trying to rehabilitate them.

Also it's very easy to say "Just go see a doctor" when there are doctors available to you but I can't help but wonder if there are enough medical personnel active and ready to take patients in these rural areas? Lastly, what are the cultural impacts of turning away from traditional practices and beliefs? The West likes to think of themselves superior to all indigenous cultures with their "advanced" cultures and technologies yet (clearly in this instance) they are widely known for fighting their problems with even bigger problems. I think the victims are lost in all of this and the corrupt institutions are the beneficiaries in this situation which is sad.

    The problem is not believing in the mind‘s ability to heal or harm others itself.
    It is going to an extreme where every single negative effect is thought to come from black magic or evil spirits and thinking spiritual methods are the only way of treatment. Such a belief is superstition - not only from a modern, western, scientific point of view but also from a purely traditional spiritual one.
    This kind of superstition and the western materialist superstition that mind is nothing more than the flow of electricity in the brain are two opposite extremes that any reasonable person should avoid.
    If you believe someone is doing black magic, just treat the problem with purely spiritual methods like the shaman in the video did, and avoid any physical actions, then all sides will be satisfied.

    These possessing spirits are demons, not witches or ghosts. I am a witch, and I have spent the last 20+ years freeing people of these negative spirits. In my tradition, a shaman and a witch are the same thing. They are not using negative forces, rather fighting against them. I never asked for this job, but it is, regardless of my feelings, MY JOB. And it takes so much out of me to fight for people's freedom from these entities, that I am forced to take breaks that can last for years from the fight. I also work to free souls of those who have passed that have either gotten lost upon death, not realizing they are dead, or their soul is being held here by the same negative entities who oppressed and possessed them during their lives. They must be released so that they can move forward with their soul's journey.

    This reminds me of spirit children in rural Ghana. Spirit children are just the ridiculous belief of a child who is born with an attached spirit of sorts who brings destruction and misfortune onto the family, village, etc. It mostly is seen as a child born with a disability, tho it has been used an excuse to blame people for anything such as you have an affair and the mistress gets pregnant the child must be a spirit child and needs to be killed. Even though it is most described as children with disabilities anyone can be branded as a spirit child: mental disorder, physical deformity, crying too much as a baby, someone falls sick so the child is blamed, even adults can later be claimed as spirit children such as widows. It's bogus and pathetic and similar to witchcraft a ritual needs to be performed after to " clean" the village. The only way to prove your not a spirit child is if a man proves it for you and even than it can be said that he was influenced by the bad spirits and than you are killed either way.

    Can they not just use a protection spell

    • @hXbradshaw
      @hXbradshaw Před 3 lety +8

      Because this isn’t Harry Potter. Witchcraft is a utilization of energies, but in the case of protection spells, if someone, especially if it’s multiple someones, are trying to kill you that in itself is a powerful energy that a protection spell might not be able to work against. Think of it this way, a protection spell is like a castle wall. Castle walls do very well against a few people trying to overcome it. But the wall is more vulnerable against an entire army with ladders. Even more vulnerable against a battering ram. More still against a catapult. Castle walls are breakable and breach-able. It is the same with protection spells. Also it’s very possible that the women in this video DID cast protection spells since they have lived to tell the tale. One of the women was even accused twice.

    • @hXbradshaw
      @hXbradshaw Před 3 lety +10

      @michael weibel that would be $0 since I don’t use essential oils. It’s curious how bothered you are by what I said. People who practice witchcraft do believe, in some form or another, in the exchange or use of energy. It’s no sillier than Christians ritually consuming the body and blood of Christ during communion every Sunday. I happen to be Jewish and find that whole idea strange and revolting, but I don’t condescend to people who think differently.

    • @rosecloudheavenlyrics

      @@hXbradshaw 🙄🙄🙄🙄 you wiccans always say that yet the Bible forbids witchcraft and communion is symbolism if you read the verses you would know there's no actual eating of flesh or blood 🤨 you say you don't condone yet you call Christians silly. How can you be Jewish yet practice witchcraft? How can you even still practice it when you come here to watch videos on your own religion and see stuff like this. Did you ever see in the Bible where the apostles literally drunk his blood and blood fell out of his mouth or his flesh? Or do you see Christians in communion doing that or is it with juice and bread 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @hXbradshaw
      @hXbradshaw Před 3 lety +3

      First of all, I’m nit a Wiccan. As I stated before I’m Jewish. And I did not call Christianity silly, I said witchcraft rituals are no sillier than Christian rituals. Meaning BOTH have merit. And OBVIOUSLY it’s symbolism. But it’s symbolism used to an effect. The wine is blessed and considered holy once that has happened, so much so that most denominations require the priest to finish any thst is leftover so as not to spill the figurative blood of Christ. That is a ritual, an act of symbolic transmutation which is the SAME idea that witchcraft utilizes. A Christian prayer for protection or healing is no different fundamentally than a witches spell for protection or healing. You’re both arriving to the same destination but the roads you take are different.

    • @hXbradshaw
      @hXbradshaw Před 3 lety +2

      @YVNcarlos what’s the point of any religion or spiritual path? To have a better understanding to the world around you, to connect with the divine, to find solace from the harsh realities of the world, and even to influence the world around you. There’s really not much difference between a prayer and a spell. A lot of people pray when they want something, whether that be health, wealth, love, etc. other people perform spells for the same reason. But just like there are many religions - Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist - there’s also many different types of witchcraft. Celtic witchcraft is going to look different from Romanian witchcraft, which is going to look different from Mexican witchcraft. Some people even combine witchcraft and whatever religion they follow. For instance, Santeria combines a lot of elements from Roman Catholicism. Long story short, the point is people want to find meaning in the world and witchcraft is just one of many ways to go about it.
