Growing up we didn’t have the funds to get everything like the rich kid up the block, the favorites were the couple games we had and played over and over again. Donkey Kong country, nhl 94, sonic 2, Mario 3 & Mario 64.

Yeah... I find myself thoroughly fascinated by the subjects and overall content on these videos. I am glad I found this channel. Over the last few years I have started wondering if there was something wrong with me, since I often feel like newer games are... missing... something. I just can't point it out, but it is there. And yet, I feel fun and immersion when replaying old classics.
This guy tends to nail my thoughts and feelings perfectly, and points out literally *exactly* why I feel the way I do. And I'm glad it is not only not just me--but literally just about everything he says seems to match up to the way I was raised and handle my own consoles and cartridges/discs. My feelings toward my games are literally explained *perfectly* by him.
Great channel--I'm on a binge and I currently just can't get enough of your videos. :)

Just now discovering Retro Bird, but I think we viewers all share the same sentiments. Retro Bird just seems like he is “every man” and understands how most of us were raised. He captures our childhood and seems like an old friend reminiscing, while approaching the subject matter in the present tense of being a husband and dad.

Rocket Knight Adventures is an underrated gem. I have to thank one my childhood friends for introducing me to the game and it blew my socks off as a kid! Konami really pulled out all the stops on the Genesis.
It is funny that when the game was localized to other regions, the difficulty settings got a bit jumbled (for example Japan's Normal is Europe's Easy and the U.S. Easy difficulty is the Hard mode in other regions. It is kind of weird.

Ps1- formula One first one 96. Hasn't aged well obviously but I played it again lately and the gameplay was even better than I remembered. Which doesn't happen often with retro games. Very addictive.
Ps2- smugglers run- couch co-op contraband mode. Spent hours and hours with it quite intense actually. When you have a friend sitting right beside you.
Snes- donkey Kong country all 3 of them neighbourhood friend had a snes we rented them several weekends in a row we were up all hours of the morning with them. Lucky I lived across the road so was always 50 metres from home. Good times. Those cart levels kicked our ass but we ended up finishing them all.
Megadrive- NBA jam. Nothing else to say really.
Dreamcast- i was so stoked to get one. I didn't know anyone else at the time that had one. Even back then it felt like a forgotten console at least from my perspective back then. But soul calibur wow I remember just letting the demo play of the single fighter just doing there moves was gorgeous. Oh and remember having loads of fun with dynamite cop.

About a week after having it my mom saw me playing it and freaked out and threw it away because she said it was too evil . That was the only time I got anything besides candy in my easter basket 😆.

  • @salmonshirtsforeverproduct8679

    Ok let's do this.
Atari 2600: Missile Command. Used to play the heck out of this game.
NES: Super Mario Bros. Could have said Super Mario Bros. 3, but playing the original is my first memory. Playing in the dark, running over the bridge with Cheep Cheeps jumping at me.
Sega Master System: Only played a few Master System gamesr, but Phantasy Star for sure. I love this game. It's my favorite 8-bit RPG. I can play the Ages version on my Switch and it still completely transports me. The graphics, the sound, the story, the characters, the gameplay. It all works so beautifully.
Super Nintendo: Almost said Earthbound but I'll say The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I was too young to play this game, so my older stepsister played and I mostly watched. This game that really made an impact and I understood games are more than just simple fun. I remember poring over the manual, reading the lore over and over. My stepsister wasn't very good at Zelda, unfortunately, so she never finished it. It's secrets remained hidden from me for years and that made a big impact on me as well.
Sega Genesis: Phantasy Star IV. Pretty much the same as Zelda. I played the opening bits of all three of these, too young to really progress but just in awe of the potential and secrets I knew were there but was unable to unlock.
Sony Playstation: Final Fantasy VIII. This is the first RPG I *was* old enough to progress through. Still blows me away to this day. I first got a Pizza Hut demo disc with it, then had to rush out and get the full game.
Nintendo 64: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The first Zelda game I completed, splitting the duties with my cousin. Felt even more real than LttP.
Sega Dreamcast: Phantasy Star Online. So far this is the only MMO I've ever really messed with. I had a character based on Vincent from Final Fantasy VII. I've only traded in a few games that I regret, and this is one of them. Man what a mistake.
Sony Playstation 2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Still blown away by the ever-growing crescendo of reality-warping postmodernism in this one.
Nintendo GameCube: Metroid Prime. Could say the second one just as well but puzzling through this game was kind of the culmination of the journey that started with Link to the Past then continued with Phantasy Star and Ocarina in terms of games just being huge worlds, filled with secrets.

First of all - Love your channel, you're a lot of fun and the videos are well edited. Just subbed. :)
Second - Good list! A couple of predictable items like OoT (totally fine), but some interesting choices too.
    Third - Here's mine!!..
NES - Super Mario Bros. Yep. First game I ever played, was about 4 years old at a family friend's place. I still melt at the soundtrack, nostalgia overload.
SNES - Super Metroid. Even today the atmosphere and music holds up. Aside from the annoying as hell quicksand/water navigation, this to me is 16-bit perfection and I've implored all the gamers I meet to try it if they haven't.
Genesis - Aladdin. Ridiculously fun game that is understandably overshadowed by countless other Sega titles. But the level design is consistently engaging and thought out, along with killer animations and soundtrack. They couldn't have done a better job bring this classic film to life in a video game, I just adore it.
PS1 - Vagrant Story. Not just my favourite game on PS1, but also my most cherished of all. Sakimoto is a genius and the music in this game still sends chills in me when I replay this masterpiece for the umpteenth time. It also has an amazing story and, in my view, the most impactful combat of any system up to that point, toppled later by Devil May Cry on PS2. That is a hill I will die on, I honestly believe Vagrant Story is the peak of game design for rpgs, and even video games in general.
N64 - Banjo Kazooie. It's hilarious, it doesn't take itself seriously, it's big, and it is some of the most fun I've ever had in a Nintendo game. And Switch Online may be getting it in the future, yay!!
Gamecube - Mario Kart Double Dash. Out of all the multiplayer games I've ever played, I've had the best memories with this one. Double Dash is still my favourite kart racing game on Nintendo and have so many fond memories spending my spare hours during High School with friends blasting eachother in Baby Park. Only Halo compares when it comes to playing with my friends.
PS2 - Shadow Of The Colossus. The experience. Just the experience.
    Gameboy - Pokemon Red.
Gameboy Advance - Zelda: Minish Cap.
Wow that was actually pretty hard. I see now what you mean by changing one's mind down the road. But as it stands, this is my list :D

  • @francescosmith7859
    @francescosmith7859 Před 3 lety +9

I'll start with Sega Master System and while I'm just getting into it, I feel like I've played enough to pick Wonder Boy the Dragon's Trap as my early leader. For NES, I'm having a hard time picking between Zelda and Mario 3 but if I could only play one I would pick Zelda. Genesis is another tough call but it's Gun Star Heroes just edging out Beyond Oasis and Aladdin. On the TurboGrafx 16, I also pick Rondo of Blood with kudos to Blazing Lazers and Neutopia. Metal Slug is an easy winner for Neo Geo and to just pick one I think I'd go with Metal Slug X. For SNES, A Link to the Past beats out Super Metroid. On Playstation, Castlevania Symphony of the Night wins easily and the only other game I had to consider was FFVII. Xbox is the last system I really played and Halo is an another easy winner there.

That's a great list. For me I'd have to say:
NES: Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest. I played the Hell out of it when it originally came out and was the second video, after Mario 1, that I actually beat. I have a tradition of playing through it in one run around Halloween. If not for that Mike Tyson's Punch Out would be it but that one is a very, very close second followed by a very close 3rd with Batman.
    Master System: Rastan!
    Turbografx 16: Splatterhouse
Turbo CD: Castlevania Rondo of Blood
    Sega Genesis: Shining Force
Sega CD: Lunar The Silver Star (the intro music alone wins)
Super Nintendo: Zelda A Link To The Past
    N64: Zelda Ocarina of Time
    Sega Saturn: Panzer Dragoon Saga

  • @STALKERvoir

My favorite NES games are definitely Zelda and Metroid. They're classics for a reason.
Genesis - Rocket Knight Adventures, without a doubt. Vectorman too, but whenever I booted up the genesis I was doing it for RKA. (Guess we're best friends now!)
For SNES, it's really hard to choose as there are so many good games. Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy 6, and I can't choose between the DKC games either, they're all really excellent. If I had to choose ONE game on the SNES library, I'd have to go with Yoshi's Island - 100%ing it is another story though.
N64 - Majora's Mask, without a doubt. Honorable mentions being Mischief Makers, OoT, and Yoshi's Story.
PS1 - Crash Bandicoot 2 is hands down my favorite game on PSX without a single doubt, there's no confusion there for me. I don't own RE3, but I have RE1 and 2 and they're definitely great picks for favorites.
Gamecube - Metroid Prime. It's the reason I even bother with Gamecube sometimes, it's just so good and I own the unpatched version so it lets me do cool speedrunner tricks like scan-dashing. Honorable mention would be Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, I replayed that one a lot as it's just a lot of fun.
Gameboy - Links Awakening DX, great fun. Honorable mentions would be Donkey Kong '94 and Metroid II.
GBA - Metroid: Zero Mission! That game is fantastic and great to replay, whether it be trying to beat it faster or trying to do it out of it's "intended" sequence. Honorable mention would be Mother 3, that game made me cry.
There are some of my favorites, long comment but you practically asked for it. :)

This is hard to choose, but I guess my favorite classics would be the following:
NES: Super Mario Bros 3. It was a huge adventure filled with secrets. It was probably the NES game I got the most mileage out of.
Genesis: Sonic 2. I played this game a ton and I still enjoy it now. It is smooth, colorful, fast and just a great sequel all around. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is good too, but you need two games for the full adventure. 😋
SNES: Tetris Attack. I could replay this puzzle game for ages. It is easy to learn, but hard to master. It has fun game mechanics, good graphics and a very nice soundtrack.
PS1: Castlevania Symphony of the Night. This is a fantastic game on all fronts. Exploring Dracula's Castle is very fun. It also features some amazing graphics as well as a beautiful soundtrack.
N64: Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask. I loved Ocarina of Time, but Majora's Mask has a very unique atmosphere for the Zelda series that I really enjoy. It definitely isn't for everyone, but it puts a fun spin on the foundation Ocarina of Time set.
GameCube: Pikmin 2. It mixes the formula with the addition of caves, which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea. I feel like this is a love it or hate it kind of game, but once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty fun. There are some wild surprises in this game as well.
