  • This video is about how to make a circuit which can convert powerbank as an ups for Wifi router. This is very small and easy DIY project. It cost you less that Rs.100/-, $2. This mini UPS can power any home wifi router. Based on power bank capacity your backup will work.
    Powerbank can be connected for charging and output is connected to XL6009 DC-DC boost converter module. Low ultra wide input voltage 3 v ~ 32 v, the best is 5 ~ 32 v working voltage range. Low ultra wide output voltage 5 v ~ 35 v. Operating Temperature: -40 ~+85. Recommended to use a heat sink on XL6009.
    A typical Home Wifi router is ranged between 2W to 20W so this XL6009 can support all routers whose within this range. Output voltage can be adjusted to suit as per the Wifi router requirement.

    I found the solution to a very common issue of resetting of power when power-bank plugged in. As suggested by the author, I used capacitor (4700uF, 25v) in parallel on output, but this did not work initially.
    Then I have put two capacitors in parallel to increase power storage and they worked beautifully. Now there is no power interruption when power bank start charging after mains restores. Many thanks for the video.

    • @DIYCommunity
      @DIYCommunity  Před 3 lety

      Hi, Thanks for your compliment.
      The capacitor on output voltage is suggested as a workaround to handle the surge when there is a power switching as recent power banks restarts when connected to mains/charger everytime. This is just to feed some voltage to your router when there is a changeover.
      How mobile power bank works:
      When charger is connected it restarts and will continue charging and discharging.
      When charger is removed there is no such interruption and it continues to deliver output.
      As you are using 5V to run your 12V router its performance may be affected and may be not suitable for long usage. Also the power bank is under enormous load which may affects its battery capacity. Kindly analyze and take appropriate action.

      I have the same powerbank (Redmi 20K mAh)
      A router 12 V 1.5 A
      The thing is that the real voltage from PWBK is 5V no matters what you try to do. If the set doesn´t detect a propper device conected, it will never step up it's voltage. Since the router is not a batery, the PWBK just send 5 V
      Did you solved it???

    I have few doubts @DIY Community
    1. How many hours of backup do we get(1device/2devices)?
    2. I have a FTTH convertor which run at 12V-0.5A and my router 9V - 0.9A(So i suppose i need to buy two modules and connect to powerbank)
    3. Can 1 powerbank support these two devices?
    Hope you answer it; Thanks in advance ;)

    • @DIYCommunity
      @DIYCommunity  Před 3 lety +1

      @ Nemuri Shiva Sai, I have answered your queries below.
      1. Backup depends on power pank capacity. A 10000mah power bank can give a backup of 3-4hrs for a router of capacity 12v 0.5A.
      2. As your FTTH converter and router operates at different voltage you need to use two individual modules and make the voltage settings accordingly.
      3. Yes you can power both devices with one power bank provided your power bank has two usb outputs.
      Backup depends on your powerbank capacity. Again every make has different characteristics and backup is not same with all.
      Hope I have cleared your doubts.
      Let me know the results.
