What is positive and negative VTO?

Let me explain in simple terms with an example. VTO means visualised treatment objective. What we do here? For eg. In skeletal class 2 cases, We ask the patient to bring the mandible forward. If visually you find the forward placed mandible is more esthetic and corrects the profile, then VTO is positive, we proceed with functional appliance to bring mandible forward.
When the patient brings mandible forward and if the results are not esthetic or if the profile is made worse, then VTO is negative, and alternative treatments are chosen.
