You mean Kirsten Dunst in Interview with a Vampire which she was nominated for multiple awards. She’s great in Melancholia but we already know her greatness
No mention of Robin Williams? Before Dead Poets Society, he was known for his comedic roles and improv skills. That movie showed his skill in a dramatic role.
Punch Drunk Love was a great film. Adam Sandler played the most sympathetic protagonist of his whole career. When his character triumphs, it is very satisfying.
@@destroyerofnations1828 Although Heath did a great job on Brokeback mountain. It was his perfomance as the joker that really broke the "oh he's just a pretty face" actor. Before the joker he was just any pretty boy average actor, and a lot of other actors could probably have done just as great as him in Brokeback. Brokeback was the role that led the industry to think he might be worth taking a chance on for something a tiny bit serious than his previous teen romcom roles, but only just that. His unique and stunning take on the joker's persona cemented the much deserved respect as a top actor in any role. Few actors will achieve what he did with that role, and even fewer socalled pretty boys will be on that list.
@@MsEngelbyso.. the Patriot, Lord's of Dogtown, Monsters freaking Ball, and internationally: Ned Kelly and Candy (I cry everytime I watch that last one) all flew under your radar? And that's off the top of my head.
In the same movie, Mariah Carey proved herself to be a serious actress as Mo'nique in "Precious." She was fully unrecognizable and convincing. Everyone in that movie did their job and more.
Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina and Anya Taylor-Joy in The VVitch won me over with their amazing performances, and their respective films won me over to A24 as a visionary film studio.
Dave Batista has shown he wants to be taken seriously in the craft unlike most Wrestler turned actors who just ride off thier personality its why he will be the first one of them to win an Oscar
I would say Ryan Reynolds in Amityville Horror was his first game changer, Liked Click for Sandler, did you forget Dunst in Interview With A Vampire? Bradley Cooper had Limitless earlier, or even Midnight Meat Train that showed he isn’t just the hunky comedy guy, and Efron really changed it up with his go as Ted Bundy before the Ironclaw, but I guess for a wider audience, the movies chosen may be the first times people saw the different actors in different styles.
Carey and Dunst both turned in brilliant performances in Eternal Sunshine. Personally I believe Carey is actually a better dramatic performer than a comedy one which he basically turns in the same performance for each time.
Most critics only view three genres of film as worth while drama, historical epics, and gangster films, if a actor know only for comedy, action or sci-fi films is willing to do one of these there going to get a nod from the critics.
As far as Jim Carrey is concerned, he should’ve gotten a mention on this list for The Number 23. That movie was so wildly outside the norm for Carrey that I literally never saw him the same way again. And I keep wanting to see him, and other largely comedic actors, in darker more dramatic roles… Seriously: Imagine if Carrey had been given the freedom to play Edward Nigma more like tortured Walter Sparrow; That would’ve been the defining Riddler performance - before Paul Dano.
Hrmm... I'd have to say his performance was more encompassing in Iron Claw but Zac Efron was great in that Ted Bundy movie. Just the scene where he reacts to the judge handing down the sentence was pretty great.
I'm so sick of critics who think melodrama is the only film genre that matters while everything is trash. They and you too it seems forget that movies are entertainment first and all this boring melodrama isn't entertainment.
@@MsEngelbyisn't entertainment along the lines of "anything that brings joy or amusement" by that standard, we at least know your comments, are by definition, not entertainment.
Tobey McGuire as Spiderman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and RDJ as Iron-man, Henry Cavill as Superman and Christian Bale as Batman this character that actor's played have won so many hearts in my country India infact because for this superhero film people get to know more about existence about this actor also for the fact in 90s and early 2000s maximum people used to watch our own industry movies Bollywood but later change in 2010s when movie were shown slowly in theaters and in 2016 through ott we get to know about there are other Industry that make movies
Reign on Me is easily Adam Sandlers best movie. It was just pure emotion and I would never have expected it from him. It makes me annoyed that he doesn’t do this more often and really show he is a proper actor.
Joey King, Ramona and Beezus (the quintessential juvenile actor to carry off that Beverly Cleary literary character of Ramona Quimby); she continues to excel even today at 24, and is now starring as Halina Kurc in the Hulu limited series We Were The Lucky Ones.
Efron was very good in The Iron Claw, but do you really think the was robbed at the Oscars?! The nominees for best actor were levels above where he’s at.
Ryan Reynolds has a whole filmography of non-blockbuster roles! Have you even done your homework? Go look at his imdb page right now, then make a video of his movies about when he played a weird serial killer who had schizophrenia or the movie that you think is just a rom com but is really more about a dead and his daughter. My brain is made out of yogurt or if have names for you.
I'm disappointed that Jamie Foxx is not on this list. Before the two-punch knockout of "Collateral" and "Ray," Foxx's biggest movie was "Booty Call." After "Ray," no one doubted Foxx again. It was difficult to say if you was watching and hearing Ray Charles on the movie or Jamie Foxx; that's how convincing Foxx was.
Christian Bale: American Psycho - doesn't matter what he's in, he'll always be Patrick Bateman. Chris Rock: New Jack City Edward Norton: American History X - that stomp Tim Curry: Lord of darkness in Legend
Leslie Nielson, Airplane! (welcome to comedy, so glad you made it), Charlize Theron, Monster (proving it's not just the pretty face), Uma Thurman, Pulp Fiction (so glad transitioned from thumbs to feet), John Goodman, Raising Arizona/Barton Fink, Coen back to back feature tie (welcome to the silver screen, who needs television) ...and most personal choice, not feeling the Bro cult classic Road House, nor the sappy chick flick Dirty Dancing, the Bodhisattva, Patrick Swayze at his finest in Point Break.
Uncut gems was supremely average to me. I know others saw it as gold tier but he was still playing the same kind of character just in a different genre
Emilia Clarke won me over with Terminator Genisys. Cos of the movie, I decided to write a letter to her and get her autograph. Almost 9 years later... I still haven't got that autograph :(
NOT Carrey in THE TRUMAN SHOW; he did not convince as someone who didn't know he was on camera (though that had mostly beenn how he did his roles up to then)
i think the title of this video needs more clarity.. These actors have already been established and are well known so why do they need to win people over?
Adam won me over long time go. Not sure what took you long. This video should be called “ when we “not you” took actors seriously” No wonder I unsubscribed
also lets face it the worst actor to come from WWE is definitely dwayne johnson. he thinks hes way better than he is. whereas hogan at least knew his capacity as an actor
You mean Kirsten Dunst in Interview with a Vampire which she was nominated for multiple awards. She’s great in Melancholia but we already know her greatness
She was great in “Power of the Dog”.
I hated Melancholia.
@@JMwhocares I thought it was dull.
Exactly!
No mention of Robin Williams? Before Dead Poets Society, he was known for his comedic roles and improv skills. That movie showed his skill in a dramatic role.
Yeah, when it got to the top 3, I assumed he'd be there but nope.
Punch Drunk Love was a great film. Adam Sandler played the most sympathetic protagonist of his whole career. When his character triumphs, it is very satisfying.
Yeah, totally agree. Really my favorite Adam Sandler movie. He wasn't playing it safe with this one and it shows
One of my favourite as well. Very reputable
NO HEATH LEDGER?!!!!!! You can't tell me he dont belong here for the joker.
He did brokeback mountain well before that

Loved Bradly Cooper in "Limitless" (the movie)....
My favorite of his.
Matthew McConaughey in True Detective
This one was honestly the moment he transformed from a good Actor to a great Actor. Loved his performance.
Or Dallas Buyers Club
@@andrewjmcquinn9996 That too. I credit TD first because I happened to see that before DBC.
Um. Reynolds has done plenty of Indy projects, notably the 9s and Voices.
The Nines is way underrated. Sure, it's strange, but what a ride - nice to see you mention it!
I thought I was the only one who saw Voices. That was so good. A complete surprise all the way through.
Also, he didn't just star In Deadpool. He got that film made because he is a fan. Big difference.
In the same movie, Mariah Carey proved herself to be a serious actress as Mo'nique in "Precious." She was fully unrecognizable and convincing. Everyone in that movie did their job and more.
With Buried, the perception of Ryan Reynolds changed....and yet, with Deadpool, it all turned immediately back.
Jackie Chan in The Foreigner. A stoic performance leagues away from his usual comedic, acrobatic fare.
You should make a Power Couple video!

Ryan Gosling Drive
Reign over me hit me in such a spot
The Iron Claw wasn't nominated for any Oscars, right? Did it not apply for the awards or something?
Carey and Dunst both turned in brilliant performances in Eternal Sunshine. Personally I believe Carey is actually a better dramatic performer than a comedy one which he basically turns in the same performance for each time.

Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron and Heath Ledger.. The pretty faces who proved they were so much more when they got the chance.
Adam sandler in billy madison is amazing
My favorite Sandler obviously is when he plays two characters. Such extreme preparation came into role and it shows. One word: “Dunkachino”
Kirsten dunst was in marie antoinette in 2006! We knew her range
Heath Ledger: The Dark Knight.
Sam Rockwell: Moon.
John Travolta: Pulp Fiction.
This list could go on a lot longer.
Heath was in Brokeback Mountain way back in 2005
"Reign over me" is so often overlooked....when Sandlers character opens up I always cry....

I watched “Precious” once. I almost didn’t make it through even that one time. That was a tough movie.
Zac Efron changed my mind when he chillingly played Ted Bundy.
Carey in The Number 23? I mean not saying it's an Oscar worth performance, but it most definitely showed a different side of him
Hrmm... I'd have to say his performance was more encompassing in Iron Claw but Zac Efron was great in that Ted Bundy movie. Just the scene where he reacts to the judge handing down the sentence was pretty great.

Perfect timing; hubs and I just watched Adam Sandler's new film "Spaceman" today and Sandler is fantastic in it.

Adam Sandler was awesome in Reign Over Me, He was also great in Wedding Singer
Antony Starr: Banshee
Charlie Cox: Daredevil
Gina Davis: The long kiss goodnight
"Forever Best Adam Sandler Performance": Reign over me (2007) - kills me every time
Olivia Colman, a prolific TV comedy actor and panellist suddenly an Oscar darling after The Favourite

Michael C Hall: Dexter
Michael Douglas: Falling Down

The nude scene in Melancholia is the best used one in any Lars Von Trier film because of how subtle and non-sexual it is.
