By the way, just wanna mention that as of the current season of Overwatch 2, characters are no longer locked behind the battle pass and are given to everyone for free like they used to be.
It's honestly hilarious how several aspects of OW2 significantly improved IMMEDIATELY after Bobby Kotick left the company. You can tell that the dev team was just as eager to see him go as the playerbase, if not more so.
all things considered, ow2 doesn't really deserve the spot here. especially when you compare it to actual scams and completely garbage games, its just a pretty disappointing free multiplayer game that had some really bad press.
Oh damn, might actually have to try the game again. Gonna be honest, I never _loved_ Overwatch, but I used to have a... sorta passing enjoyment of it, I guess? Maybe one of the new characters will really click with me now that I can actually play them though

For context on Flatout, the original developers, BugBear Entertainment, went on to make Wreckfest, one of the best multiplayer racing sim-cade games I’ve ever played

Overwatch "2" was released in 2016 and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.
As Chinese I can tell you why the three kingdoms game is the No.1, it is a simple strategy online card game but it have way too many unfair ingame purchases characters, basically as a “strategy ” game you spend $300 dollars for your account pixel and you can mostly win other players that spend less money then you. 😅 and the company keep robbing players money by updating new broken and unfair characters that easy beat up last patch broken characters. For this idiot game even people spend $10k dollars to buy characters are still going to lose to richer players as an online “strategy” card game.

I love how SPORE, a game from 2008, still has its servers up longer than command and conquer 4 . The SPORE servers are still up to this day.
That's just due to Spore actually being a good game and also a cult classic

War of Three Kingdoms literally takes you to the top-up page during the unskippable tutorial and walks through the entire process of putting in your credit card info and stuff. I liked the card game so when I found that they made a video game I was like hmmm what could possibly go wrong. It turns out it can go very wrong.
Mind you even cosmetics were free in OW1. You could buy loot boxes or just grind and level up (which was ez af fr) or even just play a few arcade matches and you would get a BUNCH of lootboxes very quickly, some of them even had credits so you could spend on whatever you wanted. I miss lootboxes bro
I strangely find myself putting your videos in the watch later playlist a lot, they've left such an impact on me that I cant miss them. Clearly, one of the better essay channels or something

5:50 No, it's because the Kotaku Article contained an SH claim against RIOT that WASN’T TRUE. There were three SH claims in the article but one was made up for sensationalism. As a result, people believed the other stories were fake as well. It wasn’t until the two true SH claims turned into actual lawsuits that people said, “Oh those were real?!?!?” The community then responded accordingly and got behind the victims.

Overwatch 2 is an odd case, its reviews will always suck due to the broken promises and the failure as a concept that the game is, but at the same time the game’s fun, polished, has a good playerbase and it’s in the healthiest state it has ever been.
Also, all heroes are now free, but even then Overwatch had the fastest hero unlock speed of the hero shooters I’ve played, using Paladins as a reference, in which I have all the champions unlocked.
I know, its a strange case
if PvE had never been announced and Overwatch 2 had been an update instead of a sequel, then I guaruntee the community would have had a positive outlook on the game.
Overwatch didn't get worse, the team behind it and the community around it did.
Tho Paladins was free from the get go. And you could pay a few bucks to unlock all heroes, and this works till this day. Every new hero unlocked for ppl who bouth this pack even 6 years ago.

@@psychokuca302 I received a huge chunk of gold after essence was removed so I was able to purchase the new champions even after I stopped playing the game.
The funny thing is, half of the complaints about OW2 could have been mitigated fairly easily. The two big complaints are "promissed PVE, did not deliver" and "I bought OW1, they took that from me and replaced it with this micro-transaction garbage." The first complaint can't be fixed without giving what they promissed. That second one though? Easy. Make OW2 F2P like it is now, microtransaction and all, BUT...create a "legacy pass" that is given to everyone who bought the original in good faith. Have the legacy path include anything that was present in the original game. In short, if you're a NEW player, you get what they have now. If you're a legacy player who paid to make the game a success in the first place, you don't don't pay a second time for what you originally had.
Um, I'm gonna guess you didn't know that they already did that. As someone who started playing in 2017 I still have everything in I used to own in OW2. That's not the issue.
The issue is that I originally bought the game and could unlock every single thing inside of it through pure gameplay. There was a grand total of 3, kind of 4 but not really so just 3 things that you could only get through real money.
Overwatch 2 however makes it so that MOST things are paid only, that's the issue. If you want ANYTHING new then you pretty much have to pay, paying for 4 skins in OW2 costs more than buying the original game itself.

@@lethal3268 it was literally worked out mathematically how long it would take to unlock every legendary skin, at the time of the initial calculation we were looking at 300 years. So this is quite simply LITERALLY impossible and you are just lying. Poor poor little clout goblin.

Sad to see the downfall of Overwatch though... That game is still a blast to play even after years, easily in the top 5 online PvP games ever made, yet it just can't stop taking 'L's because of the absolutely incompetent leadership they have at Activision-Blizzard.
Mind you, in overwatch 2- if you didn’t play OW1 at all, you were literally forced to play like 60 games or WIN 30 JUST to unlock Doomfist. ONE HERO

As I diehard C&C fan, I'm no stranger to how hated C&C 4 is. Its one of those things people try to forget happened.
I'm pretty sure even EA themselves are ashamed of it since it went off steam for a while. The only reason its back on steam was due to them putting the Ultimate Collection up.

Just so you know, yes, war of the three kindoms is a really popular card game in China. Basically you get a character at the start of the game, with health bar and skills. You have actions to di each turn, like attack or defend. The game ends when the king(a random player) or enemy players are defeated and with their health bar dropped to zero. Very popular game and it's a mistake to release it as an online video game.
I hear and appreciate 25.3*N 91.7*E in the background of that OW2 segment. Chris' work for the Risk of Rain series' music has really been picking up on CZcams recently and I'm all for it.

What amaze me more than EA is how steam allowed a literally unplayble game to be on their shelf for over four years
That number 2 is deserved by players. You should never give people free money. Kickstarter is just stupid. I can understand giving money to veterans of the industry to get games like Pillars of Ethernity but the rest is just dumb. You have an army of no ones that want money for some dreams and those idiots give them the money! Do not give free money.
Thats why i much prefer early access to kickstarter, yeah in both you are giving money for a promise that might not come true and i'm sure there is reasons for kickstarter over EA, but with EA you are always getting something, having a concrete even if unfinished product in my hands is far better to me than the promise of a product.
Crowdfunding would be nice if it was regulated and enforced criminally if you don't deliver the product after receiving monetary backing for it. Maybe if they hauled these scammer asses to jail for 10 years the next people wanting to scam their backers would think this through.
Right now you can set up crowdfunding for any dumb "dream" and then rugpull your backers without any consequences. There are many such failed KS projects and only a handful of succesfull ones.
@@alewis514 yeah, the problem also is that suvirvorship bias is very strong when it comes to kickstarter since we do have things like undertale that got its funding through it and became a massive phenomenon, but the vast majority of products there go nowhere sadly.
As one of the die hards command and conquer fans another reason why command and conquer 4 was so bad was because it wasn't meant to be part of the mainline c&c series and was supposed to be a online pvp spinoff for the chinese market but ea forced them to put a campaign and shoved it out as command and conquer 4

I'm pretty sure at one point War thunder dipped down to overwhelmingly negative for a Month or two because of Gaijing's (the delevoping studio) ridiculous decision that recieved a huge amount of community backlash.

Yeah, that's actually very awesome of EA to do. It was actually well timed for someone like me since it was only a few days after it was announced RoosterTeeth was shutting down, so that softened the blow a bit.
There was one issue in your analysis of overwatch.saying that overwatch 2 release could’ve just been a moderate update for overwatch 1 is incorrect. The review bombs were not only for micro transactions but because they removed a lot of content and gameplay features. Many of which we still haven’t gotten back. After 10 seasons of ow2 now I can comfortably say that we are still at an overwatch 0.8-9 as we still haven’t gotten good features back. Let alone the fact that 5v5 is a broken and not fun format. The game went f2p but didn’t gain new players because 5v5 just isn’t good and the game lacks the polish it used to.

C&C4's failure of suddenly switching genres is interesting to me given that the exact same thing happened with Dawn of war (which somehow managed to not go super negative). But I would love to know why companies keep looking at popular RTS games and go "We know what the RTS players really want, they want to play a different genre completely"

Funny thing is War of Three Kingdoms was the worst rated game before OW2 got on steam. When OW2 get the worst game spot the WoTK community got upset so they review bombed OW2 with good rating to get their game back to the worst game spot. Then OW2 chinese players also responded by good review bombing WoTK.

Why you should play and review this gem: Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2. The developer is so bad and always close digimon mobile, gundam game etc to squeeze their own game.
The matchmaking is slow and ignorant about waiting ruin ppl fun, bad matchmaking, bad player that quit the game, bad gacha, bad daily and monthly quest, literally worse than battle pass quest, .

I played about a thousand hours of overwatch, and I think about 100 in Overwatch 2 and all I can say is that I am not mad about the changes, Im just sad about all the things promised to us were scrapped piece by piece. And as time passed my hold on the game got slowly severed till I decided to let go.
Now I know what games to buy to people I don't like....
