- I think Terraria players often speed run the game to Moonlord and never take their time on their worlds. I want to change that. So, over the course of a year I will be playing on this world with each stage of progression being blocked until the start of a new month. Listed below are the progression locks I'll be facing on this journey and come next December we'll finally defeat Moonlord!

Even more fun when you stop and smell the flowers like throarbin is doing. People completely overlook bonus events like OOA, deerclops and Empress, and build houses that make greedy landlords blush. I don't know if anybody's doing the "games aren't fun" thing anywhere, where they overlook themselves being the problem, but if you feel like terraria isn't fun anymore then racing through the game is probably the reason.

The game is great me and my friend are playing it on master mode witch he's never played
empress bug spawns,
kinda stupid but they count as mobs so you can catch 10-15 if u pop battle potion, blood moon and place a water candle or just boost it somewhat using one or two of these items/summons 😊

builld a little plattform hhigh enough hso the hallow ground beneeth is barely out of sight. watch rare creature radar. pop down and catch when it tells you they're there. I don't think I've caught less than 5 in a night this way.
Been following this series for a few months and dude i love how you make the videos feel like you are actually talking to us. It feels like im right there with you enjoying the experience alongside you and its something i really love about this series. Its a shame its coming to an end though but it was bound to happen.

Next playthrough I'm gonna disable all Qol mods and only have calamity stuff on
@@coral1016 i did the same. Had to turn off some mods so I could take my time. I used to rush through it and didn't really enjoy it like I did vanilla
@@LOSTNOMAD442200 Qol mods are good but a lot of terrarians don't take their time, they only focus on the bosses, gear and progression. Things like building and fishing is actually relaxing. Have fun in your playthroughs, I wish you all the best
Hearing the pure enthusiasm in his voice when he made lore about the builds he was making in his head and how he was thinking about how is this how people get inspired about making builds reminds me of an old build I made, it was a crashed space ship I made for a calamity ranger run in the astral infection and I loved the build so much I did something I don't usually do and gave the character I was playing well, an actual character she was the captain of the ship who got infected by the astral infection but, still had her mind and was trying to repair the ship to get back to her homeworld and I think that's why that playthrough was one of my favorite playthroughs I've ever done
Just gotta add in the lore and suddenly everything is more fun. Just make a run into your very own hero's journey, it's a good time
Yup. This is how you get invested in freeform games. You come up with an idea and flesh out the logic and reasoning behind it, or you take what the game *does* give you and fill in the gaps with your own explanation. The mere act of doing so makes the concept personal to you and spurs the direction of all you do going forward. Turns everything into a story in just a little way.
Watching these videos every month makes me want to focus on what the game has to offer. It makes the game a lot more calm and fun when you can just hop on and relieve your mind.
28:52 I have no clue if this applies to any other version (I only play mobile) but, something interesting I found about the Bloody Tear is that if you try to use it BEFORE nightfall, it doesn't consume the item, but it still gives you a Blood Moon. I have done this far too many times for it to be sheer dumb luck. Hope this can help :)

like, you use it at like 7 20 pm, nothing happens, it doesnt consume, but then at 730 you'll get a blood moon? im like 90% i tried that and it didnt work, but i might be wrong

Maybe a 2 year world with calamity? If you look at the calamity class guides page on the wiki, there are a total of 19 stages (including endgame, in which you have every item unlocked and you do bossrush and aew (the silly big worm guy) and there should be enough events to put behind different months to have 24 different stages of the game.

I saw your video in recommended and I'm glad that this kind of playthrough is being done! Too many videos are rushed through, it's nice to see somebody taking their time to enjoy the game and see what Terraria really has to offer. I'll go back and finally beat Moon Lord now!

Lacewings ... Water Candle (increases all spawns) + Lifeform Analyzer = generally easy find.
The main problem is, that the lacewings only spawn until midnight, then you have to wait until the next night at 7:30 again.
The biggest tip I can give people to fighting Empress (day or night) is, when she's getting ready to TP to you (or between attacks) do NOT be moving to a side and UP at all. If anything it's better to drop out of the sky a bit to get away from her. Because she tends to spawn in front of you (based on which direction you are moving, not facing) and diagonally up from you too. Basically, as soon as you have successfully dodged a set of her attacks, start dropping out of the sky a bit, and do your best to avoid getting caught up by your living trees in your area.
Oh and during the day, rod of discord is better to use than flight, because when it comes to losing ALL YOUR HP IN ONE ATTACK, or whatever-percentage-HP-is-sapped-from-overusing-discord-does-to-you... it's always better to take the discord damage. ;)
PS: You can just right-click the critter guide to disable the effect. The book lays down on its side in your inventory and everything. Kind of a neat new-ish thing with some items. The void bag, stone of encumbrance, and Shell Phone all make use of the right-click mechanic as well.
See, I always forget to use the rod of discord in boss fights and when I try I always end up teleporting myself into the attack rather than away from it, lol. But that's a really good point that losing your health from the rod's debuff is something you can just tank rather than being one shot by the boss.
@throarbin - I added one additional 'PS:' to the comment when I got towards the end of the video, didn't see that you had replied til after finishing the video. Sorry, it's not super-important, but it is a bit of a helpful tip.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do more Core Keeper, it's just hard to justify it with the video's performance. Still want to make more videos on it, it just might have to be something I can only do when I have extra time.
@@ThroarbinYeah, that is the problem when Core Keeper isn’t the main game on your channel, even though it is similar to Terraria most people will only watch what they are used to, despite the quality of the content.

This series is nearing it's end and I just have to say, I am loving every second of it. You inspired me to play the game again, but I don't have the mental fortitude that you do, so I basically finished the game two times in less than a month and got bored again. Problem is, I can't build to save my life bro, which is ironic cause I really like building and making things look nice, but because of my skill issue I just give up and go ahead progressing through the game. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the last month, and I'm excited for what's next man, Keep it up!!!

I do for myself slowing down in real life was the main objective over spending more time in game and being able to go back to the word every week has had this weird effect of making me love the game more and more. And with building, I was genuinely bad, but two of Khaios' videos brought me from wood shoebox to what you saw in this video. Well, that and some experimentation.
@@Throarbin yeah I tried building again after Khaios's videos but even though I understood all the tips individually (foundation, asymmetry, block texture, etc) I struggle a lot when putting it all together, and it doesn't feel or look cohesive 💀

For the "connector bit" in your tundra base, try using rails! They're really straight, and you can hammer the ends of the rails if you don't like the current look of them!

So for the critter book thing you can right click i believe to disable it while keeping it in your inventory, a little more convenient opposed to needing to move it each time

@@Throarbin Yep and fun toys are meant to be played with. Just thought I'd mention it as once Moonlord is beaten, people often don't mess around with the cool stuff he drops, they just make the new armour and then stop.
my favourite class is summoner, the lacewings spawn way more commonly before midnight, and also blood moons are great use, I usually get 10-15 a night before midnight if there's a bloodmoon and that's how I farm them
I found your series a month ago and enjoyed binging up until October. I always thought most people played terraria the way you are playing now. Every new major update, my ex and I used to start a new world and that's where we'd play until the next major update. Each world was built with towns, farms, various transportation methods, fishing holes, and boss arenas. Marble mansions, wizard's towers, alchemists stations, churches, graveyards, and food shops. Most of those worlds would have been cannibalized for the next world. And the latest world I think my kids destroyed.
That sounds really cool what you did with your worlds! Part the the purpose for this whole series is to encourage people to do more runs just like that

Interior wise, I usually add a shelf to rooms to help make it feel more like a home. A shelf of books or something in theme with the build helps with space and adds more to it. Try adding some into your builds and see how it feels

24:03 the shingles aren’t supposed to look like other building blocks they are supposed to look angled as though they are sitting at a 90 degree angle so shaving off a bit off the top and placing shingles will make it look a bit better

If your trying to get lacewings you can use a bloody tear battle potion and water candle I got upwards of 10 lacewings with this combo and use the lifeform analyzer that detects rare creatures to tell you when one is nearby

You can click/use on the guide to critters in the inventory to change it's sprite and turn off it's effect instead of putting instead of putting it in void bag also love the content keep it up.

ive been keeping up with this series and im wondering do u like set out a specific time limit u can play for each week or do you just play like normal because i get confused every time you say "i ran out of time for the week" also love your channel keep up the work and youll hit that 100k mark before you know it
Yes, each week has a certain time limit so that way each phase of progression is given roughly the same amount of time with some getting an extra week since the whole thing is sort of based on 4 week periods.
Definitely should do a Christmas build Next Month ! For the Snow/Tundra Biome .

This series has given me a whole new outlook on playing Terriaria icl I'm typically a blitz to moonlord kinda guy, might be time for a change
Yeah, that's pretty much the reason I made this series, to encourage people to slow down. I always blitzed my own runs and wasn't sure how this whole experiment would go but now I love it more than I ever have.
For the lacewing I feels like popped up a "Bloodmoon" increase the spawn rate from my experience. Without BM around 1-2 with BM I got 5-12.

What I love about this series is the fact that your video-making skills have improved so much. If I compare this video with your first one from the series, wow, goddamn man... you really learned from your mistakes and the videos are only getting better. Good job! Yeah, it's kind of funny looking at the analytics for the whole series. A lot of people discover the series and then watch the first one but I've noticed there's a bit of a drop off with the second and third one. Those first three were quite rough
Living wood is better for the angled supports than regular wood.
And you can use actuated pumpkin blocks overtop of fence or glass walls/windows to look like curtains.
A couple lil tips ig
You can also use a single line of shingles with walls, painted to look like more shingles, coming down from that line, and connecting with the house itself to look like a roof. Also, painting shingles can help with that wood line you were complaining about.

Also the dynasty shingles mix well with dynasty wood. Wich is pretty obvious (i think, im not really sure)
Too bad this is near the end of the series, but one thing i would recommend in a series/world this long would be learning some wiring mechanics and messing around with all of those niche items and blocks. Making traps, teleporter/doorway bases(like having a hallway with multiple doorways and a teleporter going to each "room"), and piping seem awesome, but also seem like they could take quite some time to learn.
Yeah, making use of wiring for something outside of teleporters isn't something I've really thought of doing. Partially because I don't really like using traps to kill mobs. But maybe there are a few things I could mess with
@throarbin Yeah, that lines up with not really liking mob farms too lol. I personally don't think I'd ever use traps to kill mobs but I've always wanted to try to use traps in a boss arena or event arena to help out, although I'm not sure how effective they would really be, just cool.

this reminds me of the mindset getfixedboy forced on me, i actually put some effort into building (granite cavern pylon, beehive jungle, a hellbase suspended with a bunch of rocky thingys and teleportors taken over by the corresponding biome they led to) and really it was a lot of fun. the only thing keeping most people back from having fun building is probably just boredom because they COULD just be progressing since that will unlock more building materials and methods and by the time they're ready to build they're already done. ever since ive forced myself to make a complexly diferrent build style for each playthrough i do at least for the starter house
also i recommend making the guide to peaceful coexistence so some builds will keep environmental stuff like vines
Gonna be honest, had no idea the Guide to Peaceful Coexistence even existed.
@@Throarbin modded got me into the habit of material checking literally everything and I just found it on my own, useful habit! (The other book should be sold by the dryad of memory serves) (also you can right click the book to turn it off now, instead of having to remove it from your inventory)

They do, but I kind of just stumbled across the blood moon working. For whatever reason I hadn't even considered using things like battle potions or other spawn increasing items
I think a feature no one uses but that could fit into this series would be the shimering of NPC's, which could be done once the new Shimmer Biome is ready.

Yeah, in February I was actually feeling burnt out but it's kind of like running. It's find at the start, then you get tired, then you feel good again. That's basically how I'd describe this run, lol
Great stuff, but it's slowly getting to it's end. For next year you could do the same stuff, but on a server.
I've considered the server thing. Maybe some day, but I don't know enough about servers nor have the time to ensure people stick to the proper progression and prevent the whole thing from turning into pure anarchy 2 minutes after starting
It's true, but would be cool i you could manage some way to choose just people who don't join just to ruin everything. Well, it's up to you, enjoy the last month.
I will say that luck potions and gnomes and shimmering coins and torches can rly help with luck to make your grinds for items better. Pretty sure guitar drop is affected by luck

You don't need to take the Guide to Critter companionship out of your inventory, you can just right click it to de-activate it.
Wish on the next update Re-logic applies the grid lock and this type of 1year progression theme.

Yeah, it took way too long to get a key 😅
Some runs it feels like I have three of each dungeon key and the one time I did summoner I got 30 -50 banners for desert mobs before getting a key
The keys are just so reliable, lol
