I've gigged with my Squire P Classic Vibe Bass and loved it. I put a piece of masking tape over the Squire name and wrote "Squire" just to throw the snobs off.

@@paulevans4334 Yes, I had a spelling error in my comment. Squier is on my favorites to screw up. On the headstock it was spelled correctly so the nuance of the joke would work. I've played with a lot of guys that sand the names off of their guitars.

the "scooped" sound is due to the bridge pickup being located closer to the bridge. IMO this placement is always preferable on Jazz Basses especially if you're going for a more aggressive sound.

Yes sir. While I love the Fender American jazz bass the most, this Squier jazz bass holds up. Definitely worth buying if you’re on a limited income.

This is my dream jazz bass
Bought one of these this week. Good quality, intonation spot on. I had to adjust the neck relief and string height , level and polish fret 8. Bridge is positioned about 3mm too far to the left. I can fix that when I shield the cavities. Other than those minor adjustments the neck and body are well finished and the bass looks and plays well. I like it.
Great examples of sound! I have the classic vibe 60’s P bass and I’m really considering buying this one as well.

Yeah that soft maple body is great. Also what impacts the sound on this instrument is the position of the bridge pickup. It has the 70s pickup positioning, with the bridge pickup slightly further back. I had the VM 70s (that has the 60s positioning) and now the CV 70s and the difference it makes is phenomenal

@@JakaMori better is subjective.it's different from the 60s position. however i will say that it's better to my ears because the tone of 70s jazz basses is my personal favorite bass tone.

@@TheBestbackingtracks I mostly gig with it and the pickups are fine with me to gig with. Recording, yeah I'd probably throw something better in there but they're not the worst. The best thing about these basses is that they're great modding platforms.

Excellent demonstration of this bass. I have much more expensive basses but I love my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz V and now am interested in the Classic Vibe '70s V. I play my Squier Vintage on stage and hope it encourages new players who may not have a lot of dough to drop on a bass.
The Vintage modifieds and classic vibe of the last 7/8 years might be in demand one day. Fender is doing a great job on these.

Honestly my Squire Classic Vibe Jazz loaded with Seymour Duncan quarter pounders and my Squire Vintage Modified PJ feel and sound better than a lot of American Fenders I get to try at my local shop and that includes vintage stuff.

I have a classic vibe 70's precision bass guitar squier K.S.M music in Logan Utah put a K.S.M bridge on it and a quarter pounder pickup in it and it is awesome 👌 ... I have fender player series five string jazz bass and a fender American professional jazz bass pro 2 .. a deluxe fender nashville telecaster and a player series strat and a fender Kingman acoustic bass guitar...
I recently picked up one of these. Guitar player who needs to put down some bass tracks. It's a great value for the money. Now I find myself playing bass more than guitar!
Actually Fender's site it says it's poplar body. Some people say only natural one has soft maple body but Fenders site only lists natural V as soft maple.

looks like the geddy lee model, if you put the special bridge on it its basically the burst finish model, get a black one, get the special bridge and get a white pickguard and you've got the black finish model.
This just makes me want to play yyz

@@EmpireMusicPgh certainly! I played one at a local guitar store and jammed out to yyz and freewill on it truly astounding quality for the price, it’s preferable to me compared to the lower end fenders.

really love the jazz bass vibe 70 i want to get it for my next bass, but i need to learn bass right now i have affinity jazz bass good for starters, so if i don't learn bass good or whatever that means i dont deserve a vibe 70 so my goal to the top is to ace playing bass good and go a step up and get the vibe 70 and after a few years on playing with the vibe 70 go pro with a fender jazz bass USA model so yeah thats my goal.

Great bass. Mine just needed a major truss rod adjustment, and the action needed to be lowered. And I also needed to lower the pick ups. Pretty much unplayable out of the box, lol but I love it now
Same here, no setup, also notice a big natural chorus effect on the E string, i haven't changed the strings yet, hope it will disappear once I'll change em
O wow. Mine was pretty good out of the box. I did adjust the action a tad. Love this bass.
just bought one after tryin' a 700 euros Sterling....the Squier sounded better (sterling sounded good too) killer bass. black dots make it super beautiful

I just bought one for my studio, I am mainly a guitar player and have been tracking my bass tracks with a Rockbass by Warwick. It's a medium scale, its cool but the action is just not. I am not new to settups etc but the Warwick is near unfixable I think the neck has a slight twist. I get a mutted sound out of one of my strings etc. Looking forward to the squire I played one a few years back and loved the feel, just wished it was medium scale or short scale
I have a 50's classic vibe P and this 70's jazz, they are great basses for the money. Each one has been relatively flawless in my case.
@@deputydang8291 I absolutely LOVE my 70's Squier Jazz bas, man, why in the world would anyone pay for an American Fender Jazz bass when these things are made so well. They sound great, play great, sustain for days, what more could you ask for? lol I just can't believe they sound this great and not cost 5x as much as they do
@@BillyBlaze7 Agreed these are amazing, I love my 70's jazz and my 50's but I think I may change the pickups on my 50's P to some Lindy Fralins. I don't have one gripe about them except for the weight, bit heavy but that's not a big deal to me.
After having this bass for a few years, im still blown away with how much you get for your money. Ive not had one issue out of it to date. Mine came with a two piece body. I wouldnt change anything on it, i mean at some point I might try a high mass bridge just to play around with something different but it sustains very well for the music I play on it, it looks fantastic with a set of black strings also
A little too bright for my personal tastes and needs, but a great sound! They've captured the essence of the 70's Jazz very nicely

I wanter a Precision, basically, cause I never slap and I wanted e "big" sound... But it seems to me a shame to lose what a J bass can offer with 2 pick ups. The neck one is at least close to the big precision sound? Can i substitute it with a good bass oriented equalization?

That is a great review. I am in the market for a Jazz bass but looking at a Geddy Lee MIJ. Would this bass be a better option? I know there is a huge price difference.

@öldtimer is the neck on the US model still thin like a Jazz? I have a Steve Harris P and the neck is thick as heck and I hate it. I want to get away from a thick neck. I was going to get the Original 70s Jazz, but once I found out it had a U shaped chunky neck, I set my sights on the US Geddy

I believe the main difference is pickup placement and spacing. Watch review videos of both and see if you can hear any tonal differences.

I'm still on a very wide fence. Do I buy this one, the Schechter Stealth 4, Yamaha 434, or TWO Harley Benton? I already have a Fender P. Decisions, decisions. LOL This bass sounds great. It's great to see a review from someone who knows what he's talking about.
I'd buy a classic vibe any day over a Harley Benton. ick. I own both the 50's classic vibe P and the 70's jazz shown here, love them both.
I recently just shelled out for a G&L L2000 tribute and man, blown away.

There is no 50's Jazz Bass..so that would have to be a Precision. I really like them both (60's and 70's), and it would depend on the music. If I wanted more punch and midrange I would go 70's. If I wanted a slightly warmer tone I may lean more towards the 60's. Call me at the shop with if you need anything 412-343-5299 - Anthony
The 70 was the golden era of jazz bass.
I'd recommend getting both the 60s AND the 70s if you got the cash. 2 basses for the price of 1 MIM Fender Jazz...Swap the 60s with Fender CS 60s PUs and flatwounds and you're all set for some motown.
I just scooped up the natural version of this in my local thrift for $200 like new!!

How much do this bass weight? Does the poplar version (black) weight more or less?

A Fender Players Series is 300 dollars more after trying both just ask yourself is it worth it

Noise of the pickups? What do you mean? If you are talking about fret buzz you can raise your action a bit.
@@deputydang8291 i mean, single coil pickups noise.. or doesn't have it?? I hear that if you low volume one of them, produce noise.. but two at max vol. Does not produce noise... because they are inversely connected so the noise cancel between both pickups.. Thats what i mean..
@@leogonzzalez I havent experienced any issues with my single coil and it's been been little to no noise in my experience. Sounds great too, really unique. If anything at all, it isn't noticeable

@@leogonzzalez Depends what you're looking for but I'd go with the classic vibe 70's over the vintage modified. The classic vibe is what replaced fenders vintage modified. I bought that first and then after I bought the 50's P classic vibe and was super happy with it. Considering an original Fender 50's P would run you close to 2k now, this is great for the price and about as close as you can possibly get without paying a thousand dollars.

I have Fender JB75 Japan reissue and it has 60's pickup spacing. Too bad they didn't nail it the right way. This Squier sounds more 70's than my Japanese Fender reissue.
Is this bass suitable for beginner with small hands?
From personal experience, yes it is suitable. There are ways to get around the "small hands" issue.
As stated below..there are ways to get around small hands. That said, any Fender Jazz Bass can certainly help because it has more narrow spacing at the nut than say a Precision Bass. Other great options would be Short Scale Basses like a Fender Mustang Bass. The largest help to any beginner is proper technique and posture.

I know this video's pretty old, but whatever... did anyone else hear those weird "swells" rising in the background while he was doing that brief little slap section starting @03:34? I'm using a pretty nice pair of headphones and I swear I kept hearing some really wild "swell effect" in the background of that section in particular... in fact, it kinda sounded like some sort of effect off of a pedal board or a digital amp or something. Maybe he mentioned using some type of effect and I just missed it, but I know for sure that those weird swells are in there because I went back and listened like 3 or 4 times trying to figure it out. I was hearing some pretty significant hum whenever he stopped playing each little section by the end of the video, so maybe that's what I was hearing in the first place... didn't sound like the same thing though and it was happening while he was playing so that wouldn't really make any sense either actually. Did anyone else hear those weird sounds / "effects" ( or whatever ) "rising" in the background during that slap section?

60s or 70s for you?

@@EmpireMusicPgh compaired allot, there hardly any good reviews of the 70's bas besides yours. with the vintage modified it was a different story. i have to say you seemed to have a better "bass day" with the 60's presentation but i go for this one now.
When did fender released this 70's vibe jazz bass into the market....?
I've owned Fender Precisons, Guild Pilots, and a few others but I'll tell ya Squire Jazz 70's basses are the shit! Man I don't discriminate against it being a Squire because its all in the bass players playing is what will make this bass shine. Overall tone and sound is balls to the wall when being slapped and overall jamming out hard on it. Prominent and dominant bass right here for sure. The only modification I did on mine is that I added an Omega Bass Bridge which is equivalent to the Leo Quan Badass bridge. Stock pickups remain in the bass. I play through a sans amp bass driver pedal, and a boss compressor pedal and this thing rocks. I'll put it up against a Fender Jazz any day and will see no difference but thats just me. I play all different types of music Funk, disco, rock, just music that screams for the sound of a phat ass Squire Jazz pounding along.
to me 60's sounds more fender, 70's sounds just like Vintage modified

@@EmpireMusicPgh So I bought this CV 70s bass and I noticed that the E string has a buzz that comes through the amp and also a noise coming when the tone is high. That seems to occur in your video. Should I be worried? Is it solvable?
It probably just needs a mild setup. You can take it to a luthier or a instrument store and get a setup done which should help with the feet buzz.
