Honestly, this is one of the few places that this OST has been edited in that actually makes sense. Since it was originally used in the Reiner/Bertholdt betrayal, that was a scene filled with immense amounts of emotion.
This is also a betrayal, in a way. It's Armin kind of betraying himself and his own emotions to kill literally thousands of people. And, with the amount of feeling Armin inherited from Bertholdt, it could be seen as a betrayal in the sense that Armin is nuking a place that might feel a little like home to him.
Well, not like Berthold betrayed Armin nuking his place or doing anything other than that, right?
Armin was the one that said "Only those who are willing to sacrifice everything are the ones capable of making a change." So did he really betray himself or was he just becoming was he was inevitably going to be to make change?
Another possible way of looking at it is that Armin would not have been able to commit such an act without Bertholdt being apart of him. The way he looks down at the city reminds me a lot of the way Bertholdt did when interacting with everyone within the walls. At least for me, it was a telling sign of what would later be discussed in the show between Armin, Mikasa, and Eren.

This series understands war in a way most war shows and movies never do.
Both sides have justifications, both sides are run by humans who just want to live good lives, and both sides will do horrific things to ensure their future well-being. At least Armin felt the pain of what he was doing, when other would have gloated.
Why are you all like this? Fr dawg, how is this show perfect for representing how different ideaologies could clash when Eren has no clear motives for starting the rumbling in the end? He had no intentions to kill of all non eldians, and he also kinda killed his own mother and sasha, so what's the justification? Also this whole show wouldn't happen if ymir just ended the curse. She instead made the situation for humanity even worse effectively enslaving both the eldians and then Marley by having them living in a constant state of war just because she had Stockholm Syndrome. That's bad writing bro
Everybody felt the pain. Their resting face prevent audience to see deep in their heart and mind. Honestly even Mikasa hated war and killing people. And true. This show initial theme was human v titan. If humans wants to get rid of all the titan in the world, they gonna need to kill the possibility of titan being brought upon and in this case humans. That's what they showed with Eren tryna wipe out people who would be possible treat using or brainwashing human eldian to side them and then killing other humans again. It's complex but in the end understandable

The problem is how much of the worldbuilding seems to be made so that genocide is even on the table as a "justified" measure. Like, the way eldians are treated is clearly alluding to certain real world ethnic groups but in reality, black people don't have a random chance to be capable of turning into a nuke without knowing it, with no way to know that it can happen until they try to pick up a spoon after stubbing their toe and end up leveling a major population center.

There is something so beautiful about Armin’s titan. I don’t know if it’s the sadness deep in his eyes or the way he is drawn, but there is something beautifully haunting about it.

Because it’s the culmination of Armin's character development, the end to it. Armin was an orphan, a victim to outside forces he didn’t understand, and lost his last and only family (his grandpa) because of inside forces he was too weak to fight against. And yet he held hope that the future could be better, that the misery they’re facing could reach an end and he would finally be able to see the world in its true self.
Only for him to become that very same force that robbed him of his childhood, and now he is the one destroying lives and spreading misery.

Seeing his transformation is one of the greatest things that happened in season 4 imo- I can’t imagine the burden he must be carrying on his shoulders right now- if you look at him and his titan, you can see the regret and pain. Sad how the softest characters end up with the most destructive powers (Bert and armin)

Armin has that look of "I know what I have to do, but I really don't want to" before DECIMATING the entire naval fleet. then we are shown just the wake of destruction he leaves behind. what tops it off is Armin having that moment of introspectiveness.. being on the other side of the chaos.. He probably was too scared to nuke the wall, or Maybe they were told about the colossals in the wall and Bertholdt was too scared to use his nuke in case it broke the walls and released them.
