Rockstar should give L.A Noir another shot. Especially in this age of nostalgia bombing, it would go really well.
Rockstar doesn't care about anything other than GTAV online.
@@nomercy8989 which is sad and true
@@nomercy8989 They are creating gta 6 with all Rockstar big teams and since gta online takes less of a time than a new game it makes sense. It starts to make sense why gta definitive edition was a thing and why they "seemed to care only for online". Those remasters probably were planned just to release something, and grove street games screwed it up, so they probably had to fix them which made problems for gta 6 development, and all of the remasters were cancelled because of that. It could delay gta 6 even more if they screw up again.
I wish the definitive trilogy didnât suck ass, GTA IV and RDR wouldâve been greatâŠmaybe even Bully and Manhunt
after what they did to the gta trilogy and who they handed it off to, I say a good hell no but maybe if they actual did it themselves
Bully and LA Noire are two games that couldâve become massive franchises alongside GTA and RDR if Rockstar had just continued developing those franchises
Yeah I also Think If they made a Grounded or Medieval game or Pirate game they could really make something amazing. Games Like The Warriers , Manhunt, Maxpayne3 , Bully, Midnight Club. allot these games Influenced RDR2 and will continue to infulence GTA6. I think Maxpayne 3 not selling Well put them off taking risks with IP. As Rockstar Put allot money into their games.
Absolutely if they just stuck with them and actually gave these sequels they would have exploded in popularity.
@@John-996 In case of Max Payne 3, Rockstar chose the wrong franchise. As gamers pretty much only wanted open-world titles upon its release. LA Noire and Bully would've been MUCH safer bets.
Wonder why they didnât đź
If they made a sequel set in the 70âs or 80âs that would be unreal
Exactly! and Investigating those famous serial killers cases
@@youssefsamir9119 That would be sick, with Unabomer Jeffrey dahmer and co
@@seriousman7282 Yeah man, the 70's and 80's were infested with interesting serial killers. I think they can apply what they did to the Black Dahlia case to the BTK cases, like an alternative reality where he gets caught way before 2005 during one of his to-be murders back then. Also, watch Mindhunter if you haven't yet, you will love it.
Or even victorian london
Eh, we have enough 80s nostalgia. I'd prefer the 50s, we don't see that in video games that often.
I don't care what anybody says this game is Legendary
Like Femboy bussy??????????!!!
Found the soulsboorne fanboy.
@@AntonKushnir-gy8yn Trash games, you enjoy using a guide or watching a CZcams video to help you beat a game? Sad.
I remember when they showed off the facial technology, it blew me away. Hopefully Rockstar makes a sequel.
They probably won't. It didn't do too well. At least for Rockstar games standards but then again, they are remaking Max Payne(partly) and Max Payne 3 did not do well either.
@@gandalainsley6467 Max Payne (1 & 2, anyway) is Remedy Entertainment, not Rockstar.
@@UmbrellaGent Yeah But Rockstar are Funding It. I would Love A Maxpayne 3 Graphics and FPS update like the Last of us remake But the same game with Better graphics as the Gameplay for Maxpayne 3 holds really well and beats allot of games in terms of Gunplay.
@@UmbrellaGent They bought Max Payne.(as a franchise) they are partly involved. Remedy even thanked on their youtube channel Rockstar for giving them chance to make a remake.
@@gandalainsley6467 I see.
I dont understand people who complain about it not being an open world game. It has a beautiful, detailed world map that you can explore. You just cant murder randoms with guns or go bowling.. who cares.
I really hope we could see a sequel someday. That facial technology with modern day improvements to design and hardware would be awesome to see. It would definitely be more immersive.
I hope I can see a femboy someday soon
Do we always need sequels or can we just appreciate what they did for the time.
yes. Bully: Class of 1984
@@GleppaPigg enjoy them being a balding old man in 10 years, I swear it's like people forget that aging is a thing.
They actually used real Photos (some of the first city planning pictures of LA from a plane) as reference for the game. The city is almost an exact model of La from the time just scaled down
That's very typical, most devs of games that take place in actual places do that. They did a very good job.
And the map was still huge but there was nothing much to do in it outside of the story
And still a lot of the map was cut out as you can see in barriers on the edge. Already a very large map if you drived from one side to the other
Love the atmosphere and feel of this game. Music is done so well and I dont think there are enough detective games like this
i'd buy the sequel in a heartbeat, one of my all time favorite games
This timing is absolutely insane. I was literally watching the ârevisiting odysseyâ video you made and was typing up a comment recommending revisiting LA Noire when I got the notification that it was posted
That would be just a glitch in the matrixâŠ
One of the best gaming experiences ever
I loved seeing Kurt fuller in this game. âWalk this wayâ gets me every time.
What it's odd to me is that the game's price is always pretty high for how old it is. It still holds its price way more than games from 2-3 years ago. This would really deserve an ample sequel. The setting is awesome, the potential is huge and they can really go far with what tech offers nowadays.
Usually on sale for 20 on ps store
They originally had a sequel in development titled Whore of the Orient that was canceled when Team Bondi closed
Interesting. On Steam, it's around ÂŁ17.99 when not on sale, which is about the same price as other big budget games from around that time period, especially from Rockstar titles. It more or less lines up with the pricing for Max Payne 3 and GTA IV and is quite a bit less than GTA V.
I got it for ÂŁ12
It's free on xbox
I remember when I played it on PC, I used a bind to cap and uncap the framerate. The visuals still to this day are incredibly impressive. I miss stylized games.
I always wanted to play but I never did until earlier this year. Iâve now played through it twice. It holds up so damn well 11 years later. Please, Rockstar, make another one!
The issue is that Rockstar doesn't own LA Noire, the developer, who folded only a few months after, sold all assets to a movie studio
Just imagine a sequel... Call it New York noir, have it set in the 60's-70's, mafia still around, rise of crime, drugs, gangs. It was a interesting time in America.
Iâm replaying this game again right now and itâs unbelievable how much potential is there in the game. Iâm BEGGING for someone to take advantage of modern facial capture, the kind of granular detail that you can find in this, Red Dead 2, and even Shenmue and create another wonderful, dark, morally gray detective story.
Lukeâs voice crack at 4:07 is the best thing ever
I want a 1960's version of this game with a dark note. Like find the serial killer before they get to Woodstock or something.
For me this is pretty much still the "Madmen" game...like half the cast is in it.
This game got me into mad men. Such a great show
It was overly ambitious, the expenses to my knowledge led to the developing company going under. Me personally though I like it despite it's short comings.
I absolutely adored this game when it first game out. It still holds up to this day for me, but my favorite thing about it is just how creative it is. There's really nothing like it and more games need to take risks like Rockstar did with this one, such an amazing gaming experience for sure. Would love a remake or some type of sequel even though it feels unrealistic lol
I absolutely love 3/4 of this game, absolutely hate the last 1/4 of this game
Been thinking about replaying this game, definitely an experience, great story. I just wish they could have done more with the world within. Maybe expand on the side missions a little more? Also with the interrogations maybe have the response system a little more clear before choosing that option. Overall i love the concept of this and hope they revisit this series
Also just a tip on the V-sync. You can usually force it on using Nvidia control panel. And you can do this per game too so it doesnât interfere with other games on your PC.
Colab with you and ACG. YES! Dope! I would love to see that. Hope this game gets a second chance with a remake of a sequel. I enjoyed the first playthrough on my PS3. I never finished it because I pet a friend borrow it and never got it back, but I'll eventually get around to it. From what I did play, I enjoyed it highly. I wish there was more to do in the world tho.
Glad to see you playing this game. Loved it at the time, some form of sequel would be cool!
You _need_ to do a vid with Karak. Had no idea you guys knew each other, that'd be like the most MCU-esque crossover ever. It'll be great. Do it.
La Noire amazed me with its facial movements just as much as Half-Life 2 did with ragdolls and physics. Game industry evolution.
There is a charming kind of outdate with some old games.
So basicallyâŠâŠ.the graphics were just too good of itâs time that the frame rate had to suffer because of it? Pretty much the issue with every game now, you canât have both amazing graphics and amazing frame rate without being on a PC đ
Even then, on pc you are screwed over by your 1000 dollar gpu because it can barely do 30fps while using features it was literally advertised for like 4k and ray tracing, without relying on image reconstruction like dlss and fsr. Dlss and fsr are supposed to boost performance even further, not make a game touch the fps you're supposed to be getting.
Props for the pronunciation of Bondi
Perfect đ€
I remember when my sister got this game at Gamestop and i used to watch her play it, until she couldnt get past a part of the story and gave up on it so she gave the game to me and i ended up completing the game just fine. That ending still gets me every time though.
Starting at 23:13 any notice there's a man just stood watching in the background. It's slightly freaked me out.
Dude yeah what the fuck
Atleast it tried to do SOMETHING with the social aspects/conversations in a game.
Sure we often get good writing but zero innovation in how dialouges work or doing something special with them. LA Noire has this system, the 2 latest Deus Ex has these social "boss" - battles and alpha protocal has an excellent continous flow as examples. None has been replicated but the basic dialouge-choice wheel where you just exhaust options still persists
Not many games manage to create such an ambience which truly captures times some of us never lived through, fantastic atmosphere and game, sequel yes please, even though it would need a new main character
At least mark it as a spoiler please. I'm sure more than one person that was planning to play this game read this and you might've ruined it for them
A âNy Noireâ or another la noire set in the 60s-80s would be amazing
LA NOIRE is absolutely one of the best games ever made. I would like for them to make a spiritual successor, but leave LA NOIRE alone it was a masterpiece on it's own two feet
Yeah, luckly the V Patch make it playable at 60 or more FPS, because the 30 FPS lock really outdates it.
And, most importantly, fixes all the playability issues you had before at 60.
Everything is fixed by V-patch except moving pencil on paper to reveal debossed text
@@TheAntsh yeah, a single minigame in a single case, otherwise it would be perfect.
I would eat up a Mafia 1 kinda remake of this game.
Literally my fav game ever, nothing can beat it
I personally find the 5 year 'era' of Bully - GTA IV - RDR - L.A. Noire (2006-2011), the golden age for Rockstar games. These games were each so original and pioneering in the open-world genre in massively different ways, it really displayed a willingness to innovate and experiment.
But to be fair, I look back at that time period in general to be a very fun and optimistic period for gaming.
Great potential and vision ruined by a few but crucial shortcomings
I had this same experience just a few weeks ago. Decided to re-install and try it again because I really liked it and there just isn't anything else quite like it, but I couldn't get into it again because of the dated aspects, unfortunately.
The version I played replaced "truth, doubt, lie" with "good cop, bad cop, accuse" and I can't decide which is better.
With doubt, you end up jumping down the throat of someone you didn't mean to, and with good cop I'd end up not trying to get the answers at all instead of pressing gently.
The intro of this video is too long winded, my guy. Save the verbosity for mid-video please :(
It really wasnât an open world game the impression I got it was about being a detective
I won a contest to get a copy of this game back in the day from some website doing a promo on Twitter. I started it and was enjoying it for the most part, but one of the CZcamsrs I watched back then ruined the ending for me. Total bad form, no spoiler warning, nothing. Took the fun out of playing it. I was low-key mad at that guy for about half a year.
Maybe some day I'll revisit it because it didn't seem like a game that took too much time to complete, but man did that suck.
I always hoped they would take the tech and use it in GTA or other games in the same way, even if just in limited fashion. Like Lamar saying to Franklin in GTA V "Do I look like I'm lying?" and the prompts coming up all as "DOUBT" would have been a great callback, lol. Maybe we'll see something like that in VI.
I wouldnât mind a sequel of LA Noire
Great vid Luke as always
I would love a sequel to this game. They could do so much more with the facial expressions nowadays. The writing in this game was also top notch.
This is one of those games where what it got right it REALLY got right and still holds up beautifully today, and what it got wrong was obvious back then and glaring today. The story and atmosphere still give me chills, but I rarely play it because I know the plot/clues/questions inside out and the open world is really quite boring... plus the cars and traffic AI kinda suck.
These days if I want to revisit it I'll usually just put on a walkthrough video and watch it like I would a TV episode, and if you've read this far then you probably aren't surprised to hear it works insanely well that way. What an amazing and confounding game.
Made my day hearing Luke will be sticking it out on CZcams for streaming cause I do not like Twitch tbh and am more than willing to tune into the streams now that they are on a more accomodating platform. Thank you @Luke Stephens
A sequel set in 80s Miami would be fantastic
I think the main reason Rockstar backed this was because of the promising tech behind the facial animation. It was then used in GTA 5
Iâm surprised you were even able to get the game to launch. I bought it on steam and literally had to change game files and download mods to get it running properly.
People seem to forget the real masters behind L.A. Noire, Team Bondi. Rockstar actually had nothing to do with the development of L.A. Noire, they only published it and took all the credit, even on the covers and box art. The only time when Team Bondi is clearly stated is in the opening credits and when you load the game and see the legal terms and logos in a 1940s style cinematic.
Since Rockstar games only published it meant Team Bondi outright owned it. Even after Team Bondi closed, the rights are still with Brendan McNamara so Rockstar could never make a sequel. And before anybody mentions the VR version, McNamara and his new company made that.
Imagine a sequel but itâs in like Chicago in the 80s or something.
The V Patch is a near perfect unlocking framerate patch for L.A. Noire, driving isn't that bad and the game mostly works, all of the animations smooth out decently. You can play the whole game minus one puzzle in The Set Up DLC episode this way.
Dude, your setup is absolutely awesome! Can you put links to your equipment?⊠like your mic and lights in the background.
âColes reaction would not be what you were expectingâ
âYou fuck young boys, Valdez?â
And that line's in literally the very first mission of the game, oye vey.
L.A Noire, that game aged like fine wine. Played it last year and i was so interested by the story.
such a unique game with so much more potential. You Should do Maxpayne 3 next. Also other Rockstar games like the warriers Manhunt and Bully.
I loved it so much, played it on PS3 and never experienced anything like it!
Iâm currently playing the Ace Attorney Chronicles on switch and I think this game is gonna be next on my list!
the face technology in this game is so nuts, i remember back in the day when after playing this game and playing other game, and realizing how bad the facial expression on the other games compares to this game at the same year
Thanks for saying Bondi correctly. So many Americans say it as Bond-e or something
There is a Mod that makes the game run at 60fps flawlessly, its just one file of a few kbs that you need to copy and paste lol
Rockstar could have done this officially if they GAF
This is the one game that actually DOES need a remske
L.A. Noire was developed by Team Bondi, it was published by Rockstar.
Such a good game, so much so, I've decided to fire up my PS3 and complete getting the platinum, yep, 11 years in the making, mostly just the collectables.
Awesome!!!!
you should definitely do the collab with ACG, you both are really good
i love LA Noire. who cares if it didn't age well? looks aren't everything. it has great atmosphere, characters and story, what more do you need? it would be nice to get a remaster or even a remake (if they kept everything unchanged, unlike FFVII Remake...), but even without it the game still runs well and is worth playing for anyone who likes something new, something more serious and something more realistic. to anyone that has never played it yet you're missing out.
I would love a LA Noire 2 or remastering with more exploration of the old LA with more building interiors, better facial expressions, and maybe some new cases.
Love you man
True
The soundtrack is second to none for this game
Studios do still use the tech involved to scan and place faces in games tho, you can see it in some games like rdr2 or tlou2 and other high profile releases today. But it's a lot more efficient now where use a total scan and then also use head rigs that record facial movements during full motion capture performances at the same time rather than doing the va and facial capture and full motion capture separately. It's still advancing as a tech and has been sized down over time to make it work better for ease of production. They use this a lot in movies today too like in marvel stuff or like what they did with avatar.
I played this for the first time in 2018 after not playing any games since 2008. This was the PERFECT game for me since my video game muscles went into atrophy. Not super challenging and not a bunch of stuff to learn straight out of the gate. I was a noob reborn and though I've played a lot of games since then, this game will always go down as my favorite game of all time.
-Side note to all the people who love this game: most people know that the actor that plays Cole Phelps is also on the show Mad Men. What you may not know is there are over 70 people from this game that appear throughout the entire series of Mad Men. It puts a whole different spin on that series if you watch it.
ikr, when I played I constantly saw people from Mad Men over and over again
Some characters were in Breaking Bad as well
I just finished replaying this for the 1st time since like 2013 a weeks ago. Still such a solid game!
Playing on steam deck, really nice experience
The ps4 version is on sale on Amazon in the UK at the minute. If you don't wanna buy it new you can get get a second hand copy off eBay for fairly cheap. One of my favourite games of all time as well, still holds up today.
Rockstar game launcher on PC gave it away free if you bought a game on their launcher a few years back. I got it but I had already beaten on 360 long before.
The epitome of (very) flawed (but definitely a) gem.
Just brought this for my Xbox one in a sale. Have never played it before and looking forwards to it
I think this game looks awesome and the acting is one of the best ever in a video game. You're not playing the remastered version either. It looks great on series x
This game was ahead of its time but then again Rockstar tend to make games that is ahead of its time like the first Red Dead Redemption. LA Noire have better graphics and realism compared to some triple A games of today. I mean Saints Row comes to mind.
You can change the frame rate to 60, and it works for almost the entire game. There's only one place I found that it just requires disabling the mod to pass it, then the rest of the game works fine. I've played it on my PC and Steam Deck with this mod, along with a few others to actually make it run properly.
Behind RDR2, LA Noire is my favourite Rockstar game. I have completed it both on the PC and Switch.
This should get a sequel where rockstar takes full control and you have a open world we as rockstar fans are accustomed to. In combination with mocap and facecal (looking at rdr2), i think it can be a great game
Ah I remember playing this, and watching Super best friends play it...poor Whooli.
If Rockstar want to do a proper remaster, they'll need to remake the face model to modern standard and map the capture performance to a fully rigged face instead of just projecting. That plus new full body motion capture to replace existing animation.
Another thing to add is activities to the open world. Let you take time off between cases to explore and do stuff. Go to jazz bar, play games, watch public domain movies, and flesh out Cole's domestic life. Also add in an Assassin's Creed style education tour.
This game is a masterpiece. No discussion.
The game runs fine if you run it at 60fps and a custom resolution with the V patch. You might have used an older one or something. Also, you're likely only running this at 1080p. The menu resolution by default doesn't go higher even though it says it does, the V patch fixes that too.
Edit: You're definitely at 1080p after seeing the aliasing in the distance while you were driving.
Top 3 G(ame)OAT for me. Loved this game! So wish there was a sequel but I'd still want it in the 40's!
Agree totally. Was a perfect time for a game like this.
What a classic man.
I literally just started this game again.. I played when it first came out all those years ago. And recently bought it on sale and I've completely forgot a lot of the story. It's just amazing to go back and play. It's so goofy in places too haha. Great game
My brother played this game when it came out and he didn't know english at all we used to have a dictionary next to us and search for words to understand whats going on , and the facial thing was the biggest help to choose between the options , and i think this is the first game that i cried at the end of it .
My biggest gripe with this game is that there isnât enough to do outside of the cases. If we got more to do with Phelps it would have given us a chance to connect more with the him. However, the cases and stories involved were great except the clues and choices that felt arbitrary.
Blame the game director he would scream and insult every developer making everyone quit, they didn't have an animator for long periods of time, this game coming out was a miracle
â@@Dead_Hitori exactly, I'm surprised no one talks about this
i had just got promoted to the arson section, when my 360 stopped workingđ
