    I admire that you have had this agenda for nearly 30 years! My word, Filofax should reach out and make you an ambassador! Wonderful video

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much! I don't think Filofax would ever reach out, but it is an interesting thought. It don't think they would like my presentation style though, because I say it how it is, with both the good and the bad; and I think they would be a little shocked with some of my reviews on Patreon ;-)
      I think it's important, as a reviewer, to remain independent of any manufacturer influence.

    I bitterly regret parting with my similar Filofax of that era. Switched to a Psion 3c and 5mx, then to a Palm m505, and on to an Ericsson P800 before a run of iPhones. Never would I have predicted that in 2023, having gone full circle, I’d be back where I started with a new (pleasingly flatable) made in the UK Filofax Original. I’m just grateful they kept going and are still making them. Long may it continue!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if your descendants viewed this video and remarked that your Filofax is still in use two hundred years later! The mind boggles at how long this Filofax will last, and rightfully so, it’s a fine object worthy of succession for generations to come!

    i love leather binders. I am very specific about my aesthetics since I am an architect and searched a long time for a A5 darkbrown full grain leather. since i hate any branding on the outside filofax was out and options were the much expensive lucrin, the moterm and fabriano. ended up with the moterm for 106 euros and cutted the inner logo out myself, now i am completely in love with it.
    great video and I love that yours lastet almost 30 years. best wishes from berlin

    I used to have an old model (from the 80's or 90's, can't remember) and that laid flat perfectly! I wonder if there has been a change in the manufacturing/design that resulted in having to train today's pieces to lay flat.

    A favourite Filofax, then; but for what? I have a similar model, the Kensington, same construction, same cut, but without cardboard between the inner and outer leather: this thing won't go in any jacket. It's too big!
    I can't even take it with me! I'd have to walk around with a handbag. With a backpack.
    As much as I like the Kensington: it's completely useless for travelling, in the city, on the way to the office.
    I need something flat and light.
    I think love in general is like that: it falls on everything we can't have. The more impossible it is to get hold of, the greater the desire.
    That's why I have generalised my favourites: What I'm using right now is my absolute favourite.
    All my Filofaxes now meet the Corona standard: they never leave the house.

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  Před 2 lety

      Some good points.
      My Sherwood never leaves my house either. When I go out, I'm using a Guildford Mini Extra Slim right now. And I have several Kensingtons too - a great model; one of the best of the modern binders in fact.
      If you're looking for something flat and light then I recommend a Guildford Slimline, or, if you want something a little more radical, use a pocket sized mechanism with the boards from a hardback Moleskine notebook - a very effective productivity tool which I have used in the past.

    • @thomasaushauser1940
      @thomasaushauser1940 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Flatability Basically, it's about shame and self-censorship. These ring mechanics have the tremendous advantage that I can make embarrassments disappear immediately, without a trace. If I tear out a page of a magazine because I wrote something stupid or offensive, then the tear-out will forever remind me of the writing that I want to erase from my memory. But a page from a Filofax disappears never to be seen again.
      So I write more freely, more courageously, more scandalously and sometimes even dare to write down thoughts that I have never allowed myself to think.
      At least in theory. In practice, I am a coward. I only think what others have already thought. Because thinking one's own thought is tremendously difficult. Practically everything that can be thought has already been thought. Everything ends in repetition.

    So very happy to have found your channel. What a wonderful perspective on the realm of Filofax. I too am all about the flatability. My first cover from long ago had all the flatability. It has disappeared in time though and I don’t know what happened to it. I’m looking to purchase another cover and would love your recommendation for which ones have the best flatability right out of the box. My preference is a red cover in the personal size with 108% flatability. Any thoughts or recommendations would be most welcome. Thank you.

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you so much. That's great feedback. I appreciate it.
      My advice is to view several video reviews, of the particular binder you're considering, because...
      different batches of the same model may have been made from slightly different materials, or maybe a different factory, or, if it is a pre-owned binder, the way it has been used may affect the degree of flatability. And this applies particularly to vintage binders where, depending on how the binder has been both used and stored, can make its flatability vary enormously.
      FYI, it might be worth considering a Van der Spek binder. As I understand it, some models can have very good flatability from day one, because they can be specified with minimal stiffeners under the leather.

    I purchased a "Filofax" while working in Hong Kong back in the mid 90s. It is black leather, with grain....but the Filofax name and the country of manufacture does not appear anywhere. All of the inserts however has Filofax printed on them, but not on the leather casing. Could this be a counterfeit or did Filofax, not necessarily emboss the company name on all of their products?
