  • Update with a new tach that goes to 10k: • Honda Monkey Tachomete...
    While I can get by without it, the instrument cluster has just felt incomplete without a tachometer. Here's my step-by-step install, including a 3D printed mount to keep the look clean.

    Cameras: Canon EOS 77D and DJI Osmo Mini

    Very cool. Got the same Monkey yesterday and after 30 miles am looking to upgrade things already. I was a poor kid so couldn't get one as a kid but can be a kid now at 58 years old.

    It would be very helpful if you had the most important part of the video lit up properly so that we all could see exactly where the ignition coil connection was. Otherwise it was a most informative and interesting video. Keep up posting as all of them are top noch..five stars

      Thanks for the compliment! I bought the tach on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-2-Inch-52mm-Tachometer-Tach-RPM-Gauge-Digital-7-Color-LED-Display-Car/173794202780
      I am looking for another one though since I've realized 8k is below the actual redline - it feels like there's another ~1k before i hit the rev limiter, so looking for another 52mm tach (that supports 1 cylinder) that goes up to 10k like this one: www.ebay.com/itm/52mm-GlowShift-Smoked-Lens-Tacho-Tachometer-Gauge-Kit-w-7-Color-LED-Illumination/372547525810
      I'll post an update when I get a new tach in.

    I tried to install a generic analog tachometer to a Monkey 125 2018. I combind long black (backlighting negative) wire to green (meter negative) and hooked it to frame ground. Short black (positive meter) was combined with long red (positive backlighting) and connected that to monkey's black-yellow wire. Tried signal from both of the coil sockets buts neither one gave a reading, only backlight lit up. Should I just connect signal to spark plug?

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  Před 5 lety +1

      The pulse signal should come from the coil plug with a green plastic piece around it (it's the one closest to the side of the bike). Are you sure your tachometer supports 1 cylinder and if so, is it selected to the 1 cylinder mode?

      @@eastcoastish www.amazon.com/Backlight-Motorcycle-Tachometer-Counter-0-13000/dp/B01EOF81O8 my meter is the same on like this, except it is chrome in color. Yes, I tried the green one (top) first and then the lower one. But there was one issue: the wire connected to green black, had bad connection but I temporary fixed it by bending the connector and managed to gain backlighting, so I figured that maybe the meter knob should work too but no...I know it's a cheap meter, so welll...but thank you for your help so far!

    Really love the tachometer design you built. Sure would be nice if I could purchase one of those brackets from you. Didn't know if that'd be possible or not? I already purchased the same tachometer. Nice job.

    • @bigmick1062
      @bigmick1062 Před 4 lety +1

      Why is that ridiculious?
      I think it is a great idea so you don't have to rely on the rev-limiter and over-rev this little engine. You can watch just how far you push it.
      Besides it's cheap enough, why not. I'll be adding one to my Monkey ASAP.
