What I don't understand is why the BBC would trash a show that's been around for 60 years.When you think of all the merchandise that's been associated with the show the amount of money that they're losing is insane.

There's this fantastic episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called The Outcast where Riker falls in love with Soren, a member of an androgynous race (gender neutral) known as the J'naii, who dares to be female. In the end she undergoes conversation therapy to become gender neutral instead of female. This was done in 1992. Now that's great writing and it makes people instantly understand about society forcing you not to be yourself. Russell T Davies aka RTD (Ruin The Doctor) can never write on that kind of entertaining and thought provoking level.

Honestly, I noticed a downward drift in the quality of the stories in the middle of Tennant's era.
As a whole, it wasn't "This season was bad" i was more one or two less good episodes.
(There have always been stinkers, from '64, onward)
More so when Smith took over, and towards the end of his run things were getting pretty contrived and poorly thought out.
Peter Capaldi, is in fact my very close Second favorite, right after Tom Baker and while I loved his characterization and he had a lot of great lines and speeches... I found EVERY Story to be worse than the worst of previous series'.
When Whittaker was Cast, I said to my wife, "Damn, that's risky, particularly considering the decline in the storytelling. Is this a good time to be risky?"
There are Far more important things in life than a TV Show, but this show has been with me since 1980 and I'd hate to see it end.
Yet there's RTD, knowing full well that that's the likely outcome of what he's doing..
He's going to get the show cancelled, perhaps never to be regenerated.
Again, it's just a Show... I guess. :(

What's worse is that there's still some of that crazy, campy, out of context sci-fi in the show. The Toymaker was an awesome return, the ship made entirely out of ropes and wood was a brilliant idea, and going back to 1960s London to see some of the greatest music artists record was a great idea since Doctor Who is also about famous people throughout history. There was a scene in the first episode, where 15 is running on roof tops, shouting at Ruby about climbing the ladder. That had the right kind of Doctor Who energy. But it was for just a moment, and that's what this era is begining as.
Moments of good Doctor Who, spoiled by a thick, intrusive layer of woke liberalism.

I couldn't careless about the sexuality of actors and the parts they play - but it is the pushing on "the message" that makes me turned off. Tehn being told don't watch - no problem, I stopped watching.
As a long time fan and queer person myself I was so excited to see the new season. I like Ncuti Gatwa and hoped that he would be good in doctor who. Sadly I got disappointed. Personally I think he is an ok doctor but he suffers the same fate as Whittaker...bad writing and shallow storys. (English is not my first language I hope this makes sense.) The episodes are quite boring, there is no real challenge to it, not much sci-fi action going on, no scary villains. The doctor doesnt seem as smart as before, he isnt inventing or improvising anything but instead everytime there is a problem the solution conveniently apears out of thin air. (Space babies: the machine to analyse the bogeyman residue obviously just appers beside them, of course there is a room full of used diapers to blast the ship close to the planet they need to get to, etc.) Also the overall acting of his companion is just meh. Its the first time i am seeing this actress but her acting most of the time feels like watching one of these cringey teen shows on netflix like XO Kitty. It looks forced and weird. It was hard to watch the first two episodes and i couldnt bring myself to watch the third. I am sure the actors will be great in future projects but doctor who isnt for them. As for the writing I really, really hope they make better scripts and storys in the future.
This is one of the most honest and respectable opinions on Dr. Who I have read or heard in a while. People either sugarcoat it and pretend things aren't bad or hop on the "gOiNg WoKe" bus. A good shakeup in the writing department would do some good. I'd LOVE to see a great villain, too! Here's hoping for a brighter future of the show.

I don't see anything wrong with him is the doctor. I think he's way better than Whittaker. The only problem is I wish Moffatt would have stayed, and I wish RTD would have stayed away. I never liked him. But then again I never also liked 10 either

It depends on whether or not you like Ncuti Gatwa, as he's basically playing an exaggerated version of himself. as all the Doctor's do So far he seems OTT camp, weepy and oddly cowardly. As for chemistry with the companion, Millie Gibson is an ex soap actress in the UK and has the acting range you'd expect. There's not much chemistry but she gives Gatwa little to work with.

I'm not exactly sure what show y'all watched in 2005 because it wasn't doctor who lmao, "you can't talk about dr who without politics" yea, you never have. Season one had a two parter about how the military industrial complex thrives on falsifying conflict to spread colonialist ideals, Sally sparrow was originally written as a lesbian in the first script but it was removed to not "stir the pot", dr who has always pushed progressive ideals, you just were either too young to notice or hadn't yet developed your own political leanings yet, just because this show isnt preaching your politics doesn't mean it has declined in quality or changed its message it's simply that since 2016 the mainstream has become focused on dividing audiences specifically so they can guarantee an audience and give that audience an "enemy" to fight, you are the ones perpetuating this, break the cycle

I think the difference is that whilst there were political flavours and concepts present in the first few series, they were absolutely not rammed down your throat. If you wanted to go looking for them they were there - but for the casual viewer who just wants a sci fi show with a half decent story and some aliens, that was Dr who at face value.
These days - every single episode has an extremely thin veil across its political/socio-political ideals or themes, to the point where it overshadows the story, characters - and the show in general. This isn’t much fun for the casual viewer, who makes up the vast majority of any shows audience.

It's disappointing. I didn't like the way that episode 'Boom' attacked the idea of faith and eternal life. When the little girl said, 'My Dad's not gone, he's just dead' that was supposed to be some great realisation. But surely a show about time travel should offer more than that. If people can travel to the past, doesn't that mean that the past still exists, and so do all the people living there? But no, all that it offers now is some commonsense view that goes no further than enjoying life in a hedonistic way, expressing your sexuality, dancing in a skirt and so on, because tomorrow you die and that's OK.
It's nice to know that a "person of colour" has the same opinion about the new Who that so many of us have. Just curious - are you a liberal/leftist or on the right-wing? If the former it just proves even more that the ratings haven't dropped because of racism and homophobia. Cheers!
Russell T Davis spoiled Doctor Who by bringing Tennant back when the Doctor shouldn’t be able to get his old face back and then getting rid of the regeneration by having the Doctor split in two! Taking all the impact of regeneration away. Having Gatwa’s first scene in his underwear was tasteless and can you imagine if they’d have done that with the first female Doctor! Chibnall would have been crucified. The writing is bad and the self indulgence from Russell T Davis is distasteful. Gatwa also seems to be playing Gatwa and I can think of better actors like Adrian Lester. It doesn’t help that this Doctor is way too emotional and less resilient than previous Doctors. I’m fine with inclusivity but not when it’s clunky and badly written. Sack Russell T Davis and the Bad Wolf team.
It really anoyes me when you say you do not like the actor choice or writing and the response is well you are racist / homophobic / sexist do not watch..... These people and actors nead to learn they are not special and are not doing anything new, Doctor who has done gender swaps in the past and they have had gay / bi actors and characters in the past and they have been fantastic. An example is Cpt Jack ( John Barrowman ) who is openly gay and played a bi character that was much loved by the fans, and then for gender swaps we have The Master who onscreen has always been male but then suddenly regenerated as a female and again the actor was loved and everyone accepted the change and it was fantastic. The reason people rejected the female doctor was not because people did not like the idea of a female doctor it is because people did not like the actor that was openly anti male and the writing was going in a very woke direction it is for the same reasons people are rejecting the current season but to these egg shell actors it is never them or the bad writing but the toxic fan base...
Ditch Gatwa and cast Richard Ayoade as the British public wanted. The Americans get the POC lead that is so very important to them, a genuinely likeable and eccentric man is the lead, who has stayed politically and ideologically neutral deliberately throughout his career, and then hire some established sci fi writers to write for the show. Be back on its feet in no time.
An unlikeable lead and a showrunner who thinks he is one of the stars of the show rather than a facilitator will kill it off otherwise.
Richard Ayoade would be an amazing doctor. Loved him in the IT crowd and the watch. You are spot on. He is eccentric and very likeable.
I'd vote for Richard and a season dedicated to Tardis technical issues.

Eh. I haven't watched any interviews etc. This is the first piece of media I'm watching about it. I personally really enjoyed the last few episodes. I felt like the race/sexuality stuff was coming on way to strong in the previous series and the specials, but it was also just boring so I ended up dropping that series. This new series is really fun for me. I thought the Christmas special was incredible. It didn't take itself seriously at all and I laughed so much. I don't care about his race or sexuality. I'm sure those interviews would annoy me if it kept being mentioned. I felt like it's not been relevant in the show yet so far though. It's just been fun, silly adventures where lesbians are occasionally mentioned. I'm not saying you're wrong for thinking what you think. That's fine. I just don't personally see things the same way, and I'm really happy that I'm able to enjoy the show again.

I don’t think that the problem is him being black. I think that people may be turned off by his attitude. If Idris Elba was playing the Doctor, no one would have a problem with it. In fact, I would have loved to see someone like him in the role and I think others would have liked it as well. I get tired of people talking about race as if that’s the only thing that you can judge a person by. How about looking at a person’s character or lack there of. I just think that people are not interested because of his personality and how it seems that they are pushing more agenda’s at us. Once again, they rope in black people in this push for their inclusivity for LGBTQ. I can’t speak for everyone, but as a race, we don’t want to be part of some liberal agenda. They put a gay black man in this role as a way to kill 2 birds with one stone as it were. This type of inclusion is an insult to me and others. Why not a straight black man 🤔? Why not a gay white man 🤔? I get so tired of this “killing 2 birds with one stone” approach that Hollywood and the movie and tv industries all over the world have when it comes to black actors. Especially, male actors. Oh well, I guess I will dust off my DVD collection and reminisce of the good old days when a black actor was considered just that. Here in the UK the most popular choice for the new Doctor was Richard Ayoade (Moss from the IT Crowd). Also happens to be black. Patterson Joseph was also a long-running fan casting after playing De Carabas in "Neverwhere". Also a black actor.
The problem was more that very few in the UK new who Gatwa was (he was in a Netflix show so not a household name) so there was a general sense of "Ncuti Who??" when he was announced, and every time he opened his mouth it was to talk about sexuality or race. People had decided not to bother in many cases before his first episode aired.
This was a painful watch
Doctor Who has been dead for awhile. Ever since the show turned into a show for Clara. The woman doctor could have been great, but the writing was just... what could she do with that?
Thanks for pointing that out. Often criticism is dismissed as being sexist but many people have no problem other than the writing which the writers get to claim is invalid.

Obviously, there is no way to know for sure that skin colour isn't a driving factor behind people not watching the show. However, I don't seem to recall the show suffering back when Freema Agyeman was co-star.
