The album has surprisingly been quite mixed with fans. Some think it’s too safe and boring, but I really don’t care bout that. Who cares if it plays it safe, the songs are great and albums vibe is a very calm and soothing it’s growing on me a lot, reminds me of the vibe that the now now had
This album feels like a plastic beach sequel done on the scale of the now now but something that complex just needs more room to breathe imo. I actually saw the cd in the wild today and picked it up so clearly I liked the album but it just didn't really rise up the way the great Gorillaz albums have imo
I think you would love The Now Now. It's my second favorite Gorillaz album but some people dislike it because it hasn't got so much collabs and diversity in terms of sound... but the album is filled with that "On Melancholy Hill" warm nostalgic sound that you seem to enjoy, so you should definitely check it out

This song is about her and how she's grown up, because if I recall correctly Damon had a dream recently about her, where she is much older.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I liked it as well but found it kind of dissapointing for the amount of marketing this album had. It feels like a part 2 of another one of their albums "The Now Now" which was also more lowkey and vibey like this. I just think some songs were kind of underwhelming and I was expecting more. Still a solid 7 for me. Like I said, I don't hate it at all, I just think it could've been a LOT more than what we got. Edit: I just listened to it again. It grew on me. Classic gorillaz lmao

Saw them on the plastic beach tour in a smallish venue (~4000) in PHX AZ USA - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - everyone on the album was there: de la soul, little dragon, orchestras, etc
I don't know if I'm the only one but I think new gold and I forgot the name of the song cuz I'm listening to it to right now but new gold sounds like it belongs on Plastic Beach. I'm not saying it's bad I'm just saying if I didn't know that this song was on here I would have thought it was Plastic Beach
This album is growing on me, the thing that bums me out about it is that the tracklist is already relatively small and a good chunk of the songs are just mid (Tired Influencer and Tarantula are some of the worst offenders imo) but then there's Skinny Ape, which is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs period, so I feel like it balances out. It's a solid record! Not bad, but not amazing either. Please consider listening to Song Machine! Some of Gorillaz best tracks are on it, it's up there with Demon Days and Plastic Beach in terms of quality imo.

I think Song Machine was better in terms of recent Gorillaz albums, but I still really like Cracker Island.
The songs are monotonous
It's because they want demon days again that's why. Even Plastic beach narrowed from demon days in term of tone and edge.
