And Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was furious about this for, quite possibly, the dumbest reason imaginable, and a reason that makes no sense when you break it down

They're only losing 1 home game, same as every year, and since this is the AFC's turn to host the interconference placement game, they still get 8 games in Jacksonville. It looks like the Jags are going to spending a lot of time traveling in the future, though, with possible home games in Gainesville and/or Orlando in '24 and '25 while their home stadium gets renovated.

13:56 It guarantees you the 31st pick (if you don’t trade it) if no teams lost their 1st Round pick then your 30th (if it’s not the Super Bowl Champ without the pick).

If anything the Broncos should’ve been furious as that 2015 Panthers were exceptional and to have them go up against that team the next year with Trevor Siemian.

It happened in MLB too. The opening game of the 2016 season was between the KC Royals and NY Mets..the teams who played in the 2015 WS won by the Royals. Were I in Terry Collins shoes maybe I just have the team ignore the whole celebration and not come out until the actual start of the game.

The MLB schedule is finalized while the previous year is still in progress, so ensuring a WS winner home opener is impossible.

This season, they have the Eagles open up at the Patriots. I would like to see the Super Bowl runner up get to host the Sunday Night game.

Which happened back in 2014 when Denver hosted Indianapolis, last time.
Usually it's the kiss of death, the SB runner-up has been banished to regional coverage since:
      2015: Seahawks at Rams, 1:00
      2017: Falcons at Bears, 1:00
      2018: Texans at Patriots, 1:00
      2019: Rams at Panthers, 1:00
      2020: Cardinals at 49ers, 4:25 (Bucs/Saints main)
      2022: Steelers at Bengals, 1:00
Only exceptions being 2016 and 2021, when the Chiefs got Nantz/Romo in a rematch with the Browns.

In a weird way I get what Ron Rivera was saying and NBC could've put the Panthers hosting Falcons on Sunday Night

I actually wonder if Rivera *really* believed this or was just trying to motivate his team. Winning teams and players always seem to believe that everyone else "has it out for them" and doesn't believe in them--maybe Rivera thought this would do the trick. It's not like I expect a lot of his players to onto pro-football-reference and factcheck him.
