love those old xr250s ive got a couple in my shed with my xr500 and 200, its good to see them in these sorts of events so many people under estimate them

Great footage. You can tell why that back in the 70's they didn't even bother with going up against 2 stokes with 4 stroke engines. I had the chance to ride both back then and a 250 4 stroke was nothing like riding a 250 2 stroke bike. To a new rider like me the 2 stroke was scary to ride. The 4 stroke was powerful but was more controllable.
Ah yes....the ever famous 2-strokes stomping the 4-strokes into the ground and running away from them. Those Yamaha YZ-80s, YZ-100s, YZ-125s and YZ-250s are wicked fast! I had a 1980 YZ-80 and it would walk on and keep up with 100cc and 125cc 4-stroke enduros.
I have a 1988 XR 250R That has had some porting work bigger jets it Runs rather well & Will still keep up with and pass the modern day bikes. It's just a dinosaur, Rides like a board with a good shock pro link but hey 32yr old bike. starts on 1st or second kick w/o decompression cable on fresh rebuild about 30hrs.
I have a 1983 xr80. Had it for over 13 years. Finally got the income to save up for a bigger one. It's a 1997 xr250r, over bored to 277. We'll see once the snow clears.

witch xr the dual carburetor dude you need more power i think hes running the 2 valves single carb. excellent run you fast tham xr hondas were great funn.
lol you can see that yz was a pain to ride.......powerband like an on/off switch. Your either on the gas or completely off. Acceptable for motorcross, but for woods riding, the xr would be more fun.
Yamaha YZ 2-strokes aren't hard to ride at all. They are very fast and will run away from many other bikes fairly easy.....even bigger displacement bikes.
I bought my sons Pursang bikes there Projects as they wear going cheap but for me still expensive. Unfortunately failed miserably it was yeah Grandad bikes and am Son they are Pursang he said You keep them and will take a 4 stroke against your 2 stroke anyday. The image of the father strangling Bart Simpson flashed in my head for a second lol
The XR is holding its own vs the 2 strokes....its the rider as well..you're very good!

Miss my old XR500... Cam shaft broke in half on mine. I regret selling it. Stupid kid i was back then.

It's the name.of the event. It's a vmx event top of the south nz.
Every corner has a broken 2 stroke in it. The smoker your passed on the last lap even broke. They should call them broke joke 2 stroke.
Mud Roost Every race bike breaks. The 4 stroke race bikes break even worse.
