The 21st Tec GIII rifle takes the G3 magazine and integrates it into a well made AR10.
#AR10 #G3 #battlerifle - Zábava
Even if the mag won't lock the bolt back, seems odd that they would delete the bolt catch to lock it back manually. Even the HK/PTR you can lock it open with the charging handle
There was a time... not too long ago... that you could get G3 surplus mags for $1.50 each.
Cheapest you could get them was $0.50 each.
POF Pakistan is working on a G3 that takes SR25 mags, has a last round hold open, and has an in-line stock. I doubt they will ever get eported though.
That's actually pretty cool
Now I want a roller-delayed AR-10.
@@borkwoof696I think zenith is working on one, actually.
Does it still crush brass?
POF already exported a handful of MP5 to the States
CMMG already did this about 15 years ago. I was super stoked about it when I saw them at the SAR show in Phoenix at their table. You could get new in the wrap surplus aluminum G3 mags back then for $2 each, while Pmags for the AR10 didn't exist yet and SR25 mags were $50 each. I patiently waited for the CMMG receiver to hit the market so I could build mine,...but it never showed up. WTF?!?!
I don't have my PTR91 anymore. Those mags were real cheap back in the 2000's.
Still are i bought a box of 30 for like $150
In the late '90's they were $2.00 each.
They were 40 to 50 cents each, in quantity, in the early 2000s. 🤠
I feel like it should be noted that this is not the only offering of this flavor. Monarch Arms makes what they call the ARG3. It's largely the same, it just has an Armalite style split to the receiver instead of a DPMS kind. The Monarch is also available as an 80%
Love all the G3 content you put out
Thanks MAC. interesting content as always. Much appreciated.
The G3/PTR is my favorite .308 rifle. It looks so cool. Its a solid rifle too.
They are seemingly indestructible and last forever. Probably more durable than the AK.
It’s a little out of my price range, but I do see the versatility of this design. Definitely cool to see new ideas being brought forth.
LOVE THIS IDEA! i really dig the old g3 and have done my version of a clone of the swedish AK4D and would love to see you review one and hear your thoughts.
Interesting AR-10.
Thanks Tim & Jason.
I bought 200 mags for $1 each free shipping back in day lol
Great video well done
Interesting concept. The lack of a hold open is definitely a detractor for me. Makes me wonder if anyone did an AR10 concept built around the FN FAL magazine.
Someone did if I remember correctly. I want to say rock river arms or something like that.
@@TheDraco877Yes correct Rock River Arms made in AR-10 that took fal mags.
And the rock river arms with the FAl mags had a last shot bolt.
I had a Rock River LAR-8. The one that took FAL mags. POS. The mag was held only at the rear. Barely. So the front would dip down causing mis feeds. I got rid of it. FAL mags are a poor choice for AR-10s.
i like when people take these receivers and build them out to resemble the psg1
That's very cool, and definitely a tempting option. I am in the market for an AR-10 rifle right now, and I do have a PTR-91 already, but...I still think I'd prefer the Ruger SFAR. For me, it's the weight reduction that makes the most sense to go for. Plus, the SFAR is cheaper.
The Cetme steel magazine is curved and would also fit. I saw ten packs of HK magazines for as low as$2-$4. The AR is a topper or top break action borrowed from the MP-18 or Bergmann. Quite Luftwaffe in aluminum.
A note is that those Cetme and other kits are not welded together without the required modifications. That would require lots of magazines.
I remember, *years* ago (before the AR10 PMag was out), and when *top dollar* G3 mags were $5 a pop, somebody (perhaps DPMS?) offering an AR10 lower that took G3 mags.
Literally no practical reason for this to exist in a world where the SR25 magazine pattern has basically become the standard.
Tim, IDK if you have read Boston's Gun Bible, but the author (during the Clinton AWB) wished Armalite would come out with an AR10 that accepted G3 mags.
I've got about 30 or more hk mags, and was out shooting several of my rifles including my CETME with friends yesterday where it ran flawlessly, and was a favorite of the guys that tried it. I don't have an AR10 don't know if I would choose this over a PSA, but it is interesting. Thanks for the review.
That's a really bad ass set up, wouldn't mind having one.👍🇺🇸
That shit is so fucking ‘’Trustful’’
Reminds me a little of the first prototype for the H&K 417 (that also used G3 magazines)
Kinda reminds me of early hk417 and cm901 rifles.
Can think of literally no ways this is better than an AR10
Better? 🤔 Not the point of the video. But For someone like me who already has a PTR and like 20 G3 mags, it’s a no brainer. I’d buy this.
@@The_Hi_Life you probably have $60 in those mags. You’re gonna spend $1500 on a rifle not as good as a cheap AR10 because of your previous mag purchase? This is a bad idea put out because sales are slow. Let it die
@@davidhochstetler4068 you're poor. sorry!
@@rustys.1070 damn ya caught me
I love my DPMS LR308 that takes SR25 mags.
Granted I built mine with components I like, upper being DMPS high profile but everything else DPMS LR308.
Hog rifle, deer rifle, home defense rifle (I live on acreage). DPMS LR308 taking SR25 mags seems to be the standard. Other than the upper profile being high or low. G2 being totally different. Go with an SFAR if you want a G2 style.
I have a bushermaster BAR-10 that takes FAL magazines I love it!
Also my BAR-10 locks open on last round fired. But the bolt catch / release is in front of the mag well.
I would love to see a review on that LWRC REPR MKII!!!
FInally a gun I can buy for the 50 CETME mags I bought for like $100 four years ago
I want to build one. I have a TON of G3 and Cetme magazines for my Cetme Model C. My Cetme has no rail or any good ways to mounting scopes and lights. I do plan on getting a suppressor and It will be easier to suppress. Roller Delay guns can be a bit of a troubleshooting experience with different locking pieces if you go to suppress it and you can damage the guns if you do it wrong. The largest example I can think of is not using an 80 degreee locking piece in an MP5k.
I’m curious if you could modify a Gibbz side charging AR10 upper receiver to work with this lower.
We propose we call the AR's working system as Stoner's Semi-Direct Impingement Piston System.
On his actual patent it’s called a “expanding gas chamber system.” A true direct impingement system would be the gas tube directly blowing gas on a solid steel part of the bolt carrier to just push it back from the gas. Stoner got the idea from a French rifle that did that but changed it so the gas would pass through the carrier onto the tail of the boat and expand like a piston. A very clever, brilliant design. Complicated and simple at the same time.
@@MrChuckwagon55 true, a very clever design.
Wish my old armalite ar 10 mags were cheap at one time few years ago 80 $ 25 round mag crazy
Tapco was selling G3 mags in bulk for $0.50/ mag. They were used but serviceable.
I dig it but I'm a PTR 91 fan so this is cool . Bolt hold open isn't a issue to me.
Definitely the first or second rifle I but this year
Kinda reminds me of my RRA LAR-8, an AR-10 variant that takes metric pattern FAL mags.
Awe the little bebe like Yoda! So cute lol.
I got a Rock River LAR8 and it uses FAL mags but wish it used SR25 mags not because of issues with them because more standard and available if so need be
One real benefit is those G3 magazines are solid. Never had a bad metal military magazines. Never understood why the AR-10 industry fell apart in terms of standardization, where the AR-15 industry, for the most part, uses the same grips, triggers, magazines, bolts, ect
Most likely because the AR-15 specs became U.S.G.I., while the AR-10 never did. Thus, since there was a "standard" developed by the U.S. government for the 15, the commercial market just mimicked those spec's. The AR10 however, was largely up in the air at that point, since only small contracts went out, and were/are generally more expensive for the general populace.
It's almost like the AR-15 is the exception more than the expectation. With any other gun (or vehicle for that matter), you can't even interchange parts within the same model and manufacturer.
@@georgewhitworth9742 I thought the SR-25 became military issue for a while. But I agree that this was more of a special purpose weapon versus a do all interchangeable weapon like the m-16/m-4.
That G3 copy is begging for a Spuhr stock and forend. As a "bonus" you could add the top-rail too.
Spuhr actually designed a single piece receiver AR-10. I don't know if he's still planning on releasing it, but there are pics online.
l like it....Thanks Mac....Shoe🇺🇸
I'd definitely like to see how some precision loads group
Hey shitForBrains! I just saw your mini14 video and have to wonder what kind of a guy helps anti gunners and operates a gun channel. I'm sure the Mini 14 will be on their list of scary guns thanks to people like you!
Kinda getting a LAR-8 vibe from this (LAR-8 uses FAL mags). It would be a good AR-308 for someone who already owns H&K rifles and is sitting on a bunch of magazines.
Tim remember when rock river used the Fal mags
I have a bushermaster BAR-10 that takes FAL mags and locks open on last shot fired
@@shifty198885rock River bought that design from Bushmaster.
@@shifty198885 the magazines are $60 a piece, if you can find them, and they suck
Great concept. Which company manufactured the buttstock?
I believe first hk417 prototype used G3 mags.
I think monarch arms did this idea first with the arg3 upper and lower. I was interested in it, but wanted to see some more videos of the build process.
its milled from 6061 aluminum like every other AR
Well the only con I can see is that those mags likely wont play nice is hardshell mag carriers. The lugs that prevent over insertion, look like they are going to cause a loose fit.
Interesting. Have you heard anything about the monarch arms arg3 receiver set? That way I could build it out the way I want to. Thanks
Ive been waiting for someone to do a review on that receiver set. I wanna build one so bad
Hey Mac, any plans on continuing the BCM endurance test?
funny, back then we paied 1-2€ for a G3 Magazin, some people i know even rebuild them for their LCT Airsoft G3, just because they were cheaper than the original LCT Magazine haha
I found those mags on line for 7 dollars a while back and bought a bunch of them.
I only paid like $45 for my box of 20 new in the wrapper HK and riehnmetal mags lol
It is an aesthetically pleasing rifle.
When I bought my HK91 in 1981 ,the mags were expensive & hard to get. Each cost $40. Like at least$120 in today's dollars.
This gun could be pretty popular here in germany. G3 Mags were just 2-3€ a pice until high cap mags were banned. So a lot of people have a bunch of grandfathered G3 mags that could only be used in the overpriced G3 variants available on the german market.
Any update on the 10k round BCM test??
I remember when those mags were $0.99/ea, all day long, and that was in new/unused condition.
This is very intriguing!
now they're $4
Any chance you’ll do a review of the new Taurus TH10 10mm pistol?
Get rid of the forward assist, add a side charging handle and you'd really have something.
I bought an original new HK91 back in 1981. It was because it did not stay open on an empty mag that I got rid of it! Nice, rugged rifle, but flawed.
I'll stick with a PTR/HK-91
Have you tested an ACR or jakle and do you prefer the AR platform and why?
Which is more comfortable to shoot, this or a PTR91?
If I spend 1500 on a AR10 I'd want a bolt hold open. If the PTR is easier shooting, I wouldn't mind lacking that feature since there's a benefit.
I wonder if it would be feasible for some company (or some 3D print file programmer) to figure out how to make a G3 mag bolt hold open follower for AR10S. That deletion of functionality kinda kills this for me. On a G3 its forgivable because its a G3. But for an AR pattern, not so much.
The fundamental failing of the G3/CETME design is a lack of a LRBHO. If someone designs a trigger pack to replace the HK or CETME groups that has a last round bolt hold-open, they'll make bank.
Ar15s and Ar10s that use ak or g3 magazines could heavily benefit from having a left side non reciprocating charging handle.
I have several PMAGs for my LR-308. I can't get any new magazine over 10 rounds.
Wish it had a paddle release
Nice
Monarch Arms makes a receiver set that uses G3 mags if you don't want to buy a complete rifle.
Those G3 mags are absolute indestructible tanks. The steel ones are way too heavy though.
guys in ban states would love these. the g-3 is probably the cheapest standard cap mag in those states
I remember when HK was developing the 417. It originaly took the G3 mags.
@richardwattler6088 I'm guessing they ended up using something else because they wanted LRBHO. If only they had gone with the G3 mags!!!
@@danielgreen6547 they wanted a new mag because of commerical sales. why do you think they made everything proprietary. Granted, it is better than an sr-25.
@@rustys.1070You don't think a last round bolt hold open likely being sought after by most of their customer base (primarily military and LE) probably played a role too?
Would be better if it it also had the G3 Roller delay system instead of the Stoner gas system. Roller delay has a much smoother firing which is helpful keeping on target. The issue with the G3 is not really adaptable to modern optics, doesn't have bolt hold on last round, and the safety switch location also sucks.
Basically this is just a standard AR10 that accepts G3 magazines.
I was wondering why you no longer wear eye protection? Don’t get me wrong, I am not criticizing as you are free to do whatever you want, but I was honestly just curious as to why you don’t. Great review. Thanks
For $1,500, I think I would just go with the PSA Sabre AR-10 sometimes looking good is half the battle.
Poor
@@nonyabidness6492pathetic snob.
poop sock arsenal
Owning a PTR-91 and a AR10, the thing I hate the most about the PTR 91 is the lack of last round bolt hold open, considering how cheap AR10 PMAG’s are I do not see the point in this. I rather have 2 separate sets of cheap magazines.
While there's not any last round bolt hold opens on the gun, maybe there's magazines that have it, like with some AK magazines.
There isn't, the mags, nor the gun they were made for were never intended to have a last round bolt hold open sadly.
AR style rifle is way much easier to put accessories on the rifle than G3, so I guess it's really not a bad idea to get one of those if you already have tons of G3 mags lying around.
Are they still manufacturing G3 mags though? Is it a finite supply?
Remember TAPCO? They sold their hoard of surplus G3 mags for $25 box of 50. I stocked up. Got a closet full. Every time you guys go fear buying mags, I unload a box or two of them for around $10 per mag. 🤠
the G3 mags for my airsoft PSG-1 gas blow back are $79 each **groans**
Not as new idea as there was a company (CMMG) that made AR10 lowers that took G3 mags several decades ago.
The only real benefit of that set up is the cheap mags as compared to SR25 mags.
I don't think its a bad concept. But if there is no bolt hold open, why not put a side charging handle on it? The AR style T handle always requires you to move your face for mag changes. Just my 2c
Agreed
Just FYI the copyright notice still says 2023.
Yeah, spending money on expensive magazines drives me _insane._ Probably because I grew up on glocks and ARs.
For example, when made the switch to the p365xl from the glock 19, I went to buy a bunch of mags, and they were _$50 each._ I mean, I understand that magazines are very important, and the source of many malfunctions, but $50 for a small piece stamped metal, a spring, and some plastic? That really grinds my gears, especially because I'm the type of person that prefers to have a shit ton of magazines for each gun I own(or at least my "go to", carry, personal/self defense, etc. guns.)
The ones that piss me off the most though(despite the fact that I don't own either of these guns) are the magazines for guns made by big European gun manufacturers that cater primarily to militaries and police. For example, the SCAR. Or better yet, the HK 416 and 417(or whatever they call them.)
The 5.56 magazines(which are simple GI type mags) cost(I think?) $60 or $70, with the .308 versions costing $10 more.
Not only that, but if you compare the price of the 416/417 to the price of the upper alone(which includes the bolt/BCG, and possibly the buffer assembly), you learn that by purchasing the entire gun, you're essentially spending like $1200 or something(I forget) just for the lower, LPK, stock, castle nut, and end plate(and possible a couple more things I'm forgetting.) It's freaking insane.
Bolt action for .308s are the way for shorty 16in just don’t know why manufacturers don’t make the dang mag wells for AR10 box mags from the start Mossberg got it right
All I'm seeing is a solution to a non-existent problem.
I guess if you have a ptr already and a ton of mags and you don't want to shoot the ptr anymore it makes sense, wouldn't buy into it cold
Looks good, probably shaves a little weight around the magwell… but why does this exist?
This would have been cool 12 years ago before the PMAG LR came out when G3 mags were 5 to 10 bucks a piece.
they're $5 now lmao
Is that a new magpul stock ? I like it
It's a Thril stock they make AR grips, mags and other accessories as well.

@@calebclark6739 yes they make nice looking kit. I have a few of the mags, and grip.

What happens if you combine (you thought so hard if you could, you forgot to ask if you should) with (I understand what you did, I just dont understand why)
Feel like the venn diagram overlap of people who own a G3 pattern rifle and people who are looking for a high end AR10 is so small that the mag difference and lack of bolt hold is far more often a negative than a positive
Whatever you think of this rifle, it seemed insanely accurate.
