Disturbed duet with Myles Kennedy live! Magical harmonies!!!
Great reaction I feel when they did this live on Conan it’s even better. The video is really good here but for some reason the live performance on Conan is better. You should react to it as well.
The Pentatonics version is actually a cover of THIS version.
I love this one the best 🫶🫶🫶
It has been said that the Simon & Garfunkel version was a warning for humanity and that this version is anger at that warning not being heeded. Also that Paul Simon contacted David Draimon after hearing this rendition. He said that he loved it and that he now owns this song. Talk about amazing praise from an amazing songwriter!!!
Wow that’s a great story Stacey. It makes total sense too.
And Pentatonix is if you wanted to retell that story to a kid in a nice way.
Ummmm, just want to point out here.... we all know Simon & Garfunkel's version is the ORIGINAL right ???
There's a lot of comments here talking about "their version" of it.... Ummm no - they are the original artists, the creators if you will, the song was written by Paul Simon, & we would not have any of the ' cover versions' of it today, if not for them! :) It Kinda compares to Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' really.., where people don't realise they're actually he original artist, written by Stevie Nicks. Because there is now so many "Cover Versions" of it 😆☮
It’s also been said that this will be a comment on every single video of reactors reacting to this song 😂
@@robertsonger8799 Fur rill.
Art Garfunkel actually called David Dreiman (The singer of Distrubed) and thanked them for this version of the song. This is not what it was meant to be at the time when Simon and Garfunkel wrote it, but it really brings it into the 21st century.
David's voice is just beautiful.
Like a dagger wrapped in soft velvet. ❤
I'm 77 and love Disturbed's version so much that I listen to it at least once a week. It wakes me up to what's happening in our world. 😮
I'm 72 and love Disturbed!!
You’re never too old for great music. Awesome!!!
Amen, I am right there with you!
❤❤❤❤
Never let anyone silence you
This version makes my eyes leak.
As I say 'It brings on my allergies'
Me too... I feel it in my soul!
David sings his ass off on this cover. The whole mood set by the video being done in black and white is genius. David's control over his voice is masterful. This is the best cover I've ever heard.
I agree with you Dennis.
This rendition is in a Universe all its own. No way to compare it to anything. I am in utter AWE !!!
Is Utter AWE near Connecticut??
I cried like a baby when I first heard this. Mr Draiman seems to look right into your soul. I think it's a masterpiece.
It sure is a masterpiece.
😊. 💕
Almost every time.
Cry because he not only reached into me, grabbed my soul & took it from me.
I cried as well 😢
This is my favorite version ❤ His voice, the arrangement, the video all just smack you in the face with emotion.
It sure does Betsy.
I completely agree this is my favorite version. I believe this version gives the song the emotion it was meant to have. I cry nearly every time I hear this version, not so with S&G’s.
It's not just the music we're losing, but the art of communication.
What I love most about this version is the fact it starts with nothing, then each verse introduces a new instrument building to the symphony at the end and with the imagery of them bringing the instruments to the people. I feel like it starts somber but ends with hope.
Nice one I like the comments. Thanks!
I became a DISTURBED fan at 60
Same.

David Draiman's voice is so powerful. The richness of the arrangement gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. He has out his heart and soul into this song and it shows.
A Masterpiece! No other cover comes close. Not even PTX.
PTX does not even stand up to Disturbed version
i am 54 years old and been a rock music lover all my life, i love the simon and garfunkel version.. but in 54 years this is the best cover of ANY song i have ever heard, it amazes me so much to hear this version for years now
I have to agree with you. It is one of the best covers without a doubt.
I love this song because it taught me that we should speak for what we believe.
Goosebumps.... Every. Single. Time. I like PTX version, but THIS version, it speaks to my SOUL. ❤
This has got to be one of my all-time favorite covers. The passion and anger in David's voice is wondrous. The arrangement of the instruments is epic and emotional. The video is also a work of art.❤❤❤
You said it!
Greatest rendition of this song ever made. I grew up with the old version. This just dwarfs the message 100 fold.
❤ same here
Davids vocal abilities are amazing. This version is 🤌
I heard sooo many different versions of this song BUT i never heard really the words and the lyrics about the song ! This version hits different ! Great band...hands down !!!
This was awesome.
We have the musicians on one side of the rift and the songwriters on the other. They finally get back together in the end. It speaks to a lack of communication that still is rampant today. This is my favorite version, so powerful!
I love that the sun rises as the boat lands
I don't know how many times I've seen this, but it's still amazes me. It's so powerful!
At first listen, I was so emotionally impacted by this version and felt that this was the way the song was intended to be performed. In the S&G version I related to the "Neon Gods" as the television industry. Look how far we have come "People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening"...people with noses in there phones, never really relating.
Yep I agree. Great comments.
David Draiman’s voice is incredible! His voice starts so low that it’s amazing to witness his range because he can really hit the high notes as well.
In an interview Paul Simon said it is now a Disturbed song.
The way this version builds and builds is totally amazing the soft beginning and awesome passion and power that builds throughout the song takes me on an emotional ride. His vocals and strength speaks to the soul. Not ashamed to say the power of the entire experience made me cry.
Far and away, the most amazing version of this song ever done. Powerful and dynamic.
Davids voice is just magic
This is by far the best version of this song, and I never thought anything could beat S&G. Brings tears to my eyes every time I listen. Fantastic voice and arrangement.
This is the best version of this song in the close to 60years this song has been alive. Great work to disturb for recreating a clasical masterpiece.
What I love is that David Draiman's voice quality is completely different in each of the five verses, so that even though the tune doesn't change, your emotions do, and you are carried through from start to finish with so much impact. If I am remembering the original correctly, Draiman altered a couple of ending notes and cut a couple of measures short a beat, which also adds more impact. Just a masterful way of making this piece their very own.
Great comments thanks!
Disturbed are so good at kindling an emotional response; 'The Light' and 'Hold on to Memories' are bona fide tearjerkers
A lot of people love the live performance they did a few years back on "Conan" -- and it is excellent, no doubt. But to me, nothing beats the imagery in this video. The impact of that combined with the lyrics is just incredible!
Great comment and so true. I do have to hear the other version though.
I think this version is closer to the real version. David was really sick in the Conan performance and the sound people from Conan added effects to his voice he didn't like, but it was still an amazing performance.@@bobcieslinski
And when he sang on conan he had a really bad flu, that's how good it was
@@bobcieslinskiyou have to do a video reacting to this referenced Conan version! It’s incredible! I’d love to see your reaction 😄
@@PeepersonCreedo I recorded it and it needs edited and then it will be out probably in May.
I love this version. There is so much passion. I played this at my dads funeral he was 94 and deaf and blind and he was born in London with the cobbled streets and he was in the navy. The amount of people who said it was such a great song for dad was great.
Wow that would be a cool one for a funeral. Sounds like your Dad was a great dude. I miss mine he’s been gone for about 22 years now.
Funny you should say this. My son has asked me for a playlist for my funeral & this cover is on that list. And I’m 81 years old. Never too old to appreciate good music.
Everytime i hear this rendering... i am awe struck.
By far my favorite version of this song.
This version gives me chills. Love it.
Best version of the Sound of Silence, hands down!! ❤
This is an INCREDIBLE version. No other cover of "The Sound of Silence" has given me goosebumps since Simon & Garfunkel's original release. I LOVE this version by Disturbed with David Draimon doing the vocals. Such intensity, complexity of emotion, combined with the perfect graphics...
By FAR the best rendition of this song ever. I will listen to any and all reaction video to this song. Love his voice, and the very dark lyrics really come out with the way this is done.
Thanks Ada!
I become so emotional every time I listen to this song. The first time, I sobbed. David Draiman has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard, it is beyond powerful. He is a professionally trained cantor as is his father. I’ve loved Disturbed for a long time, my teenage daughters turned me on to them at the time. Thank you for your wonderful review, I appreciate so much that you didn’t continue to stop the song.
This is my first time here and I was so surprised when I read your bio! You are from Pennsylvania…I am as well! 😊
Thank Sandy for the info and kind words. Yep I live pretty close to Pittsburgh. Where are you from?
@@bobcieslinski I was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in a little town called Springdale, where those tall smokestacks were imploded recently. Then I moved to Lower Burrell, not far from New Kensington. Lived most of my life there until about 10 years ago when I moved near Cook Forest.
@@sandywa3057 no kidding. Wow what a small world. I live in Leechburg. I know all of this places you mentioned. We were neighbors and didn’t even know it. I go to Lower Burrell all of the time. We have friends who have a camp near Cooks Forest too.
It really is a small world Bob! I honestly was thinking you may be from the same area as I am, I guess it was the accent! lol. I do miss Lower Burrell..I’ll probably move back someday. I don’t want to put too much personal information on social media. I also believe I may have seen you before. Take care!
This is my favorite cover of the beautiful warning song. Simon & Garfunkel wrote this as a warning the we are distancing & isolating ourselves from each other back in 1964 but if you look around you see no one listened. In the lunch rooms, on the buses even at the dinner table people are not talking to each other, they are buried in the cell phones disconnected for the person sitting beside them. I see Disturbed's cover as an angry wake up shout that unless we start to connect to each other again we are doomed. What I also like about the video is that it shows that musicians can be the voice for the silent masses wanting their message to be heard through music, the musicians in the boat crossing the river to the people with their scores.
Great comments and very true. It’s a shame and I hope it changes.
So much emotion in this version of the song
David did an excellent job on his song. He brings many to tears with his version.
This is absolutt the best of this song , absolutt beautiful ❤ Love from Norway ❤❤❤
I love Disturbed and this version of the song. It’s by far my favorite cover of the classic and quite frankly like it better. What I came here to say was that you may enjoy watching Disturbed perform this live on the Conan show. It’s absolutely amazing!
Thanks I’ll have to check it out.
Best music video on CZcams imo. The song, the vocals, the visuals, all around absolutely incredible performance
It is perfection.
Will always love the original song, but this one is the best out there! ❤️🎶
My favourite version of this song, i also love them doing Hold On To Memories and Reason To Fight, love them singing these kind of songs ❤
watch their version of Land of Confusion - Genesis czcams.com/video/mlihzhje21U/video.html
This is my favorite cover. David shows fantastic range and control in this solo performance.
Yep fantastic.
My passion for music began in the 60 and 70s. Simon and Garfunkel were one of my fav musicians. I still have the album with this song on it and I remember memorizing every word. I didn't think any other version could move me but Disturbed has done that. I LOVE this song I don't have words to describe how it makes me feel
That’s awesome to hear you have the original and really enjoy this one. Each is so unique.
We played this song and Hold On To The Memories at my husbands funeral. We felt that the message in both songs touched everyone . My husband loved both of them.
This would be a good one for something like that. Sorry to hear about your husband.
It's a song that builds itself step by step....like those steps that we will have to take towards each other
The lyrics of this song are supurb and I love that his diction is so clear that they are showcased beautifully. Agreed that the play betwen the vocals and the music is so emotive . I love it.
I first heard this version in 2018, and it was deep, and dark and raw. I found it fit the time i heard it perfectly
Gravitas. Disturbed brings gravitas to this song.
His powerful voice is so beautiful it makes me cry every time I listen to this version of The Sound of Silence..... Sharon
He’s truly amazing! For me personally it’s so much better than the original.
Truly an incredible voice, deeply touching performance!
Fantastic version of this song. Love this ❤🇬🇧
I fell in love with this on first hearing several years ago. I'm old enough to remember the original well...
to me, this included more than losing music. I felt that it was communication itself, that isolation/separation was all that was left. It's just gorgeous both emotionally and melodically. There is no other version of this song that carries this message. Period. Other great versions go for other facets of the song - but like all truly great covers, this one is unique and made the song new again by bringing a different vision to us.
Hey Aurora. This one really satisfied a need of the time for sure. Such gorgeous singing and the message was clear. Loved it.
It's been years since I watched the live version on Conan and then watched the video. This version of SofS, no matter that I've watched it w/reactions or as mentioned above, never fails to bring the goosebumps of awe. His voice, tone, and delivery are perfection.
After listening to this song for a couple years, I finally decided to give it the top spot on one of my GOAT lists. It took the #1 spot from a song that had held that spot for almost 40 years. My newly revised Top 3 Cover Songs that Transend the Original (Best Covers of All-Time)
1. Sound of Silence - Disturbed
2. With a Little Help from My Friends - Joe Cocker
3. Hurt - Johnny Cash
This us absolutely mind blowing. I heard the original when it came out and this is an absolutely incredible cover. The black and white imagery is beyond stunning and combined with the vocals its power to grab your attention is amazing. Whoever did the cinematography is a genius and truly has an eye for light and shadow.
I really enjoyed this one! He has a unique voice but gave a considerable amount of emotion. Honestly I never really gave any thoughts to the lyrics. The melancholy black & white background with the rolling clouds went well along with the song. Very well composed! Losing the music is an interesting view, and makes sense. Nice reaction Bob!
Thanks Guy! He does have a powerful and emotional way that he sane this. Incredible version. Hope you are having a great weekend!
I thought the 'losing the music' was a good thought too, but at the end of the video, all the musicians and their instruments show a solution .. to "cross the gap/the river, undertake .. act" .. got on a ship towards the people with the sheet music / the words / the "communication" .. whatever you want to call it.
The sound of silence is there, because people don't share but isolate. Well .. that's my 5 cents
😁
Epic right’ He brought a “LIGHT” to the darkness with such depth and respect of another Artists message! I see them for the tenth time at the age I might say 62 can’t wait this coming week in Savanah ga
Nice
With the band, "DISTURBED", doing a cover of this song, many people just heard this song before. Disturbed's living creation of sound made you listen to the song. David's voice pulled you in and opened your mind to what was being said. The best cover I have ever heard and heartfelt. Saw Disturbed on my birthday, 2-6-2024, and I had tears in my eyes.
Hypnotic and gorgeous. Just stunning.
I think of all the versions, good tho the others are- this one surely has the most impact and emotion.
I love the origional so much, but its more its sound not the words- this version adds impact to the actual words too.
This was Great reaction to this majestic song. Thank you very much brother!! You said it perfectly!! Great band also these guys are.
Thanks I appreciate it.
Powerful, very powerful .... that's getting the message across!!! Be Safe
Thanks you too Rod!
This cover is beautifully laid out. Hearing the build-up throughout the song is orchestrated so well. I don't normally like covers, but I love this version. David Draiman has such an amazing voice and it really shows in this video.
It was epic PJameson!
I don’t know about everyone else, but I find this man’s voice so smooth and easy to listen to. It’s the first time I’ve listened to them. Very good, beautiful sound. At the end we get into the nitty gritty, it was fantastic.
Definitely my favorite version! Absolutely love it! I could listen to this man singing all day long ❤
My favorite is this version, but live with the full orchestra on the Conan show.
Previous versions seemed to be happier, not reflecting the words being sung. This is spot on!!!
I love watching the Reacts from people to music. Especially when, the moment when they least expect it, the music hits home.
It always does at some point. Thanks for watching.
The way David starts soft to make you lean into what he's saying and gradually builds up the intensity of his vocals until you realize he's growling into your soul never fails to unsettle me.... in a very good way.
I like your comments. They are awesome.
Watch him do this live on CONAN
This is my favorite version of this song, his voice singing this song gives me chills
t's definitely worth your checking out the Live on Conan Live version. Gets you right in the feels.
Thanks!
All of Disturbed's songs have a message and they deliver it so well. Hold on to Memories. A Reason to Fight. They just released a song with a duet with Ann Wilson of Heart called Don't Tell Me. The Light, all amazing songs.
Thanks I’ll have to check it out.
Thank you for sharing this, the emotions with his voice is incredible ❤😊
I’m a retired public school orchestra teacher, and I remember the first time I heard this. It was without the video. I was just so moved and in awe. Still am.
this version feels so much deeper to me, the visuals combined with the key they used creating a unique harmony both audibly as well as visually. I've sang a cover of this for friends and blew their minds but nothing can ever compare to the connection this song has with many of us.
Nice comments and awesome that you are a singer.
@bobcieslinski I wouldn't say I'm a singer but I do love music and try lol
The most amazing thing is that David sounds just like that live. If you go back and watch a video where he talks about recording it. He went in there and did it in one take
I love this band and also that is my favorite song
"The Words, like silent raindrops fell into the Wells of Silence"
His delivery of that line gives me chills Every. Single. Time.
This is one of my top 5 covers of all time... the others, in no particular order:
Johnny Cash singing Nine Inch Nails' Hurt
Pentatonix singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah
Postmodern Jukebox and Morgan James singing Aerosmith's Dream On
Talking Heads singing Al Green's Take Me to the River
Thanks for the info!
It’s more than loosing music. We are being silenced. We are losing it all . I was stunned when I heard this song . I am 70 and I love it and the song’s warning is now!
Thanks!
I don't normally listen to Disturbed, but this version of The Sound of Silence is Phenomenal. The best version I've heard, and he's Sexy as Hell.
I just heard this one the radio today, and had the opportunity to turn it up and really listen without any interruptions. He definitely had an emotional and powerful version with a nice buildup. For whatever reason it was much better today!
Nice glad you enjoyed it. I really liked it to. Hope you have a great weekend!
I love how it built from melancholy at the beginning to full-throated anger at the end.
In every way, a masterpiece. The best song, vocal and musical arrangement I’ve ever experienced. The video is brilliant.
So have any of you watched when this version was played during an episode of the show Blacklist? I think it might have been the season 3 finale. If you really want to feel the melting soft this song get you to your core, you need to watch that. That was the first time I had ever heard this version. I cried like a baby.
My experience, EXACTLY.
Last year, my daughter & I watched Blacklist from Season 1 to Season 10 - this show’s soundtracks are superb. But when I heard David Draiman’s Sounds of Silence, I couldn’t believe my ears, as I had never heard this version, nor had I heard of Disturbed. I was completely lost in the music & simultaneously emotional, distracted, confused and MOVED, as I wondered HOW in the world I missed this song. So, I immediately googled ‘disturbing Sounds of Silence’ and actually laughed out loud when I saw that Disturbed is the band’s name. I’ve played the song hundreds of times since; I can’t get enough.
Awesome that I’m not alone in that reference. I didn’t keep going with that show after the first few seasons but it’s on my list to binge one summer. I have always been a fan of Simon and Garfunkel because my dad listened to them when I was growing up. So it’s hard for me to saw this, but I like Dosturbed’s version better.
You really need to check out the live video version made of their performance of this on the Conan O'Brian show. The reality is that Draiman performed that night with a bad fever. You'd never know it by his vocal quality. For a front man known for his band's heavy metal style, Draiman is a total vocal professional with a lot of formal training within his religious background. He is a master of his craft and between his expertise with his "instrument" and the band's outstanding interpretation of this classic song they lift Simon's wonderful lyrics up to a level deserving of their potent meaning. People are way too comfortable being silent about things that matter. They are content to follow along with the masses and the public leaders while the real intuitive minds are pushed aside by the masses and forced to share their voices in the dark, resounding echoes found in the stark cement walls of the projects and the subways where people hide away for their own safety and the pleas for help fall upon deaf ears. We fail our human brethren by ignoring their voices. We force them to feel the only way they can be seen is through violence and rebellion.
Disturbed's version of THE SOUND OF SILENCE is really the first I have heard to bring the true impact of its lyrics into its musical accompaniment. It speaks to me EVERY time I hear it and I believe that is what Simon originally intended his lyrics to do. This is such a powerful performance of a powerful message. Anyone who doesn't get that just really isn't listening.
Thanks for the great comments and info!
Sings from the bottom of his heart!
This song, the lyrics, the arrangement and the way David's voice hits is like a flash flood that catches you off guard and sweeps you along, and you can't do a damn thing about it. Powerful.
Soooo powerful
This is one of my all time favorite covers! I highly encourage you to watch the live of this on Conan! Bein' as how you're a band guy, I think you'd have a great appreciation of it.
I'll check it out! Thanks.
Musically, and especially vocally, without a doubt, the best cover I have ever heard!!. I love this version
