Hello everyone. Hope you are all well. Here is our first ever decoder and stay alive hard wire installation guide. We've chosen a very simple Hornby 0-4-0 model to demonstrate some basic installation techniques.

Found it informative as I have the commemorative Smokey Joe which I want to covert to DCC

I’m pleased you found it useful James, the chassis is very similar to the Smokey joe so relatively straight forward to do.

Great video! If you are using a sound decoder do you need to keep the other coloured wires on the decoder?

ive got an old Hornby 2-4-0 "County Class" loco from the 1980's, can this be chipped to run on DCC also?

Thanks for a very helpful video. Sorry if this is a silly question, but what would happen if the wires to the motor were soldered the wrong way around? I'm new to DCC and so this is a possibility!

Hi no problem. Glad you found it useful. If you soldered the motor wires the wrong way round the loco would run in the opposite direction to what is displayed on your DCC controller. This can be rectified by either swapping the grey and orange wires over, or reading CV29 on the decoder and adding a value of 1 which reverses the direction of travel on the decoder. 🙂
