  • After finishing a prototype project taking over two years I can I can now reveal how much a electric bike like mine would cost you to build. Obviously prices vary massively depending on your expectations. Mine are pretty high and this build could not be a disappointment. If you would like to know more about the parts Ive used please leave your comments below and I will and get bk to you ASAP.
    Due to the amount of people interested in building there own e bike and viewers asking about parts services and repairs I have opened a small business called custom e bikes UK we are based in Blyth Northumberland

      I would recommend you buy the biggest AH battery you can fit into your fame mate budget depending of course. I would also check the dimensions of the battery before ordering it If its a small fame you might have issues fitting a bought battery. To achieve 1500w you will need a 48v battery with at least a 35A bms.
      I would recommend the voilamart 1500w rear wheel conversion kit It comes with pedal assist and can be bolted on with out any issues. I would recommend you buy the external controller type.
      Internal controllers look more slick but can cause real issues when they go wrong. The conversion is pritty simple and of course should you have any issues I'm hear to help 👍

      Thanks a lot for the response mate , at the moment I can’t decide wether I should go for hub drive kit or spend a bit more for a mid drive kit , mainly want to use the bike for getting around on tarmac but also go mountain biking quite a bit , and the thought of riding trails with a really heavy back wheel doesn’t seem to fun . Do you think mid drive is worth the extra money ?

    • @theebikenut4679
      @theebikenut4679  Před 4 lety

      @@iantaplin903 yes mate I think they are worth the extra money most people I talk to have a tight budget but there is benefits from a mid drive mainly weight ballance and more miles per charge. Down sides is they are not as reliable and power can't be changed due to the controller been built in. 1500w will be your max which is well enough BTW
      Let me know what you decide to do 👍

    Love the riding clips bud👌People that have never built a high end ebike/emoto can't believe the amount they cost in just parts alone.I mean if I had to build a 3rd from scratch it would take a month of 9hrs a day purely building I reckon.Not including the battery that's 6000 spot welds I will never forget 🤦🏼‍♂️Good on ya for giving customer builds a go fella 👍 You will save them potential buyers thousands in the long run👍

      There's a lot of people out there who want a e bike like mine but end up with a banger because they buy cheep tho mate. if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing properly. All the work and effort is worth it in the end and cost wise people don't see it costs nothing to run once is built other than maintenance. It used to cost me £100 a day to go out on my mx bike, track fees, petrol, diesel for the van, dinner ect ect. the way I see it my bike has paid for itself already its almost as much fun and way more legal.

    What's up man. What size DNM RCP2 shock in mm do you have on that thing? What lb. spring rate? Also, did you reinforce your dropouts? I'm putting the 273 on mine and am worried with how much power at 600 phase amps I putt through it that it will bend or snap if I don't reinforce....

    • @theebikenut4679
      @theebikenut4679  Před 4 lety +1

      The rear shock is a rock shox vivid rc2 200mm mate I can't remember the spring rate up grade. I think it was 280lb and I swopped it out for a 350lb. Your drop outs Should be OK the have a locking pin to stop them opening up. However the frames are pretty shoddy they will only fit a 150mm shock rear as standard if you put any bigger on you will need to alter the swing arm and the fork rake. they are only tacked together witch isn't good when your putting lots of power through them. On mine I fully welded and strengthed the main frame internally.. There is something else worth thinking about to. the frame is only 130mm wide if you use a 600A battery your going to struggle getting it to fit. You'll have to keep me up to date . I'm looking forward to seeing your creation.

    • @JoshStreetDesign
      @JoshStreetDesign Před 4 lety +1

      @@theebikenut4679 Thanks for replying man! I think you may be wrong about the shock size. I have little 150mm shocks on my electric scooter, LOL. They're tiny. I think this frame comes stock with the DNM RCP-2 210mm 750lb shock. Maybe your frame is a bit different? Looks the same though. My cousin is a fabricator, and I was thinking of him having a look at it when I get it, have him reinforce the dropouts, the swingarm, and the shockmount. I was even thinking of modifying it so I could fit a 12" moto shock on it, but i'm not sure I would like the angle the shock would have to be at. I have just heard other guys who have this bike say that they needed a bigger shock with a stiffer spring to control the weight and stop them from bottoming out. That concerns me. So not sure about that yet. Where do you recommend it should be reinforced?
      Also, I'm going to have a 19" rim in the back and a 21" in the front. Do you know if the Shinko 241 19x3.5" will fit in that back swingarm? I will be doing a fair amount of offroading, so I want that thick sturdy 4 ply sidewall to protect the crappy chinese rim until I can get an Excel rim laced down the road. I also will be replacing the crank with a 36T ring, and flat platform pedals. Since I'm 200lbs, 6' 2", I'm going to put a ProTaper 3" rise handle bar up top and a FUN 31mm headset for a more comfortable ride. Does this thing have to have a tensioner if I just cut the chain down to size? Sorry for all the questions!

    • @theebikenut4679
      @theebikenut4679  Před 4 lety

      Holly cow mate your going to town on it haha its going to be a bloody good bike. I'm not sure what going on with the dnm 210 when I put my rear shock on it completely cocked up the entire bike. But that was a few years ago maybes they have sorted it now. I had to cut the yokes out of the frame and reset them. cut the swing arm hangers off to allow for a decent rear shock angle because it was to up and down. The swing arm is 10mm plate with a 1.2mm cover that was only tacked on so that had to be fully welded. I had to cut a lid in the top to get the battery to fit then I welded a skeleton frame on the in side so strengthen it all back up I also had to fabricate the seat mount because it sat up like a boner and I also had to cut the rear callaper bracket and realine it. I replace the rear bushes to bearings. I also put stronger springs in the front forks and used thicker oil and up graded the rear spring to be honest it is a bit soft. I have a mate who is 6.3 and 17 stone it's ok on the flats but I don't think I'd be happy with him doing jumps on it. I've bottomed it out a few times but the in all fairness that was on Glentress doing the drops at the top of the red route. I'll just tell you from my prospective. If there is one down side to these bikes is that they are pretty heavy. Personally If I could build one purely for off road with his frame type I wouldn't have a motor any bigger then 3kw. just over power the hell out of it. My motor is 5kw and I over power the crap out of it so it's fast but but but makes the hole bike backend heavy... I've had to use castle nuts on the rear axle to stop them coming lose aswel. I forgot to say yes it's got a chain tensioner BTW.
      The hole point of building your own is to over come all these problems tho haha you'll have a good time building it mate your headache starts now lol.
