RAF's game-changing 3D scanner that could save lives

- Aircraft technicians from RAF Wittering have become the first in the UK to be trained on a 3D scanner that's capable of diagnosing a faulty aircraft component.
The device uses something called Non-Destructive Testing, which means it scans for defects while avoiding any harm to the original part and without having to take it apart - saving time and money.
The device, which is the size of a small office, has been described as a game-changing piece of kit for the Royal Air Force.

Everybody take a shot every time something is called a "game-changer' in the military.
This non destructive testing not only saves lives but also cost and risk of disassembly and reassembly. Thanks to our defence partnership with Japan and their world class imaging specialists Nikon. Thanks to our people smart enough to see the value of it, too.
It does make me wonder how many aircraft part suppliers have this test capability in their quality assurance system.
Let's hope there is a conversion in MoD purchasing about it and the responsibility of aircraft prime contractors for quality of the parts they use...

In the Honda factory, everybody had the same uniform overall regardless of office or production or stores positions as the company believes in one level status of all employees.
In an engineering context, fitness for purpose is the priority.
