Anya is gorgeous but she lacks that sophisticated mannerism Yennefer has, that was my main problem with her casting. It's not about her looks, it's about the way she carries herself.
I always imagined Yennefer both middle-age(ish) and matronesque. Anya just looked too young was all. I imaigned someone more Cavill's/ Geralt's age. Someone like Eva Green or (if you watch the series The Gentlemen) Kaya Scodelario is EXACTLY Yennefer...to the f*ng "letter" in the first half of thst series. Dont get me wrong...Anya is f**king hot. I have absolutely zero problems with how she looks, "as a person." I'm South East Asian/ Pacific Islander, so I have the same skin tone she does. I just didn't feel her as "Yennefer." In my eyes it would have been the same issue, had they cast Freya Allan as Yennefer. This could also be a compliment to Anya, as she has a very young face.
Anya’s just doing her job as an actor as does it deserve to bear the brunt of criticism for the terrible writing of the show. She isn’t Yennefer, but that’s through no fault of her own.
She's half white, but who cares about the skin tone really. I think Anya's lovely and has the right look. I've never heard anyone complain about Jaskier never being blond haired in TV or the games, for comparison
I mean, there is no need to hate Anya, she’s playing the part she’s given. But lets just admit the fact that the showrunners totally ruined Yennefer in the show.. They just had to change every aspect of her character, even put away her iconic black&white style and put her in some H&M-like dresses. It’s just sad..
This! I only wish she was a bit older. She looks a bit young to me. But the writing destroyed Yennefers character. Yennefer wouldn’t have entertained murdering Ciri for power and if she did Geralt would never forgive her. But look they also made Vesemir practically try to turn Ciri into a Witcher, which he would also NEVER do. The writers don’t care about the characters. Especially Geralt. Which is why Henry left. That that’s her most memorable fan encounter says a lot.
Anya is so fantastic. Love her!! ❤
Yes, but that fan is right. Any true witcher gamer would say the same as well.
Witcher reader. Games aren't really "canon" either.
@@ShavoSoaDer Game or Book, she is not the one.
@@ShavoSoaDer don't sell your soul to tv series company, they did poor job.
@@iOwlPro I agree but books are canon, not games.
@@ShavoSoaDerTbh games pictured Yennefer perfectly. I would argue about Geralt, Ciri and maybe Triss (lack of scars) but Yen is just... perfect.
She doesn’t though, the girl who plays Ciri doesn’t look like that character either.
She was cast at the last minute. The plan was for Ciri to also be a diversity cast, but there was an outrage and a petition was raised (which I remember signing) for them cast a white girl as she is in the books.
Facts.
The fan was right, same for Ciri and others from the cast
The fan was right politics destroys everything
The amount of denial ...
It’s funny when people debate the ethnicity of a quarter elf & who would be best suited to play it😂
She's sweet. Hope she gets casted more. She's so pretty. I like her more than the other famous indian actresses❤
she isn’t an Indian actress 🤦♀️
Well making fun of the actual fans is what cancelled this serie
She is the perfect Yenn. People are just crazy haters. She reminds me of Yenn from the third game and that’s what I wanted. They made her less mean, which is fair lol
Not everyone who watched the Witcher has read the books or played the games, I think Anya is perfect, she is sassy and Smokey and every bit the powerful mage, my only problem with her being yennifer is I want to be her.
Well you base it off source material if you want to please the very fans who would watch it the most…..
@@lapislazuli6136 the people who make the program are interested in making money, therefore they want to make programs that reach the maximum number of viewers, not necessarily to please a devout niche of society, they owe nothing to the loyal fans they pillaged the original material from. How many times do producers and directors stray from original plots to smooth things or make the cinematic flow simpler, it can be soul destroying to a fan of a book to discover something has changed, however profit is the thing. How many people went out and bought the books after watching this project, I know I did, so I guess it achieved something for the original writer!
Yennifer is a white woman, I never read the comics but I know blade is black and I know storm is black, so why is it acceptable to race swap white characters?
@@lapislazuli6136I am a very fan and she is actually much better than “book Yennefer” 😀 You fantasized on game Yennefer, that’s what happened…
@@troystaunton254 because that’s how it is ☺️
She actually was one of the best performances on the show, so even though she may not necessarily be a “lore accurate” Yennefer, I honestly couldn’t give AF.
People on the internet are WAY TOO WORRIED about “wokeism” when I’ve never met a SINGLE PERSON in the outside world complain about it.
It’s like the boogeyman for dipshits.
Ong.
She is absolutely gorgeous but she doesn't have the yennefer mysterious background and aura. Also we all know she got casted because netflix wanted the diversity box to fill, that's why we see fringilla vigo as black and her role is increased as in books she was rarely relevant except in last book that too for a short time.
She is not Yennifer
This comment section is disgusting. How can you guys call yourselves fans? You sound more like haters. I don't like either what the producers are doing with the series STORYWISE, but I do think *the actors are excellent.* Anya bought me the first episode she appeared. Don't come for them.
The show makers are the true haters not fans of the witcher novel and games. The show writers even admitted they didn't even bother to read any of the original material and casted Anya and others for the sake of proving a political point and nothing more.
@@C-eo1rt I'll repeat what I just said l: critize the producers, the writers, don't attack the actors.
@LadyPisces96 I agree on that part. But nobody is really abusing her only saying she shouldn't have been cast.
fans of the original not the show is the point. Want to lecture someone, lecture the directors.
Sorry, it's a politically corrective Yennefer and not the original... puuhhh... Poor Slavic ancestors.
yeah really lame from the "fan"
It doesn't seem strange to you that slavic people are not represented at all in a show based on slavic literature?
@@PureLuck-tk5tk Why should it be strange? It is not slavic only literature if you ask the writer, although he is from Poland he created a huge new universe of all colors and forms, that's his opinion.
Strange for me is to want to limit this show or and universe to the tiny slavic culture. It was too small for Andrzej Sapkowski and it is too small for me. If you want to stay in this small box - go ahead enjoy.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 So a polish author wrote novels that includes many fictional races and places and somehow it's not slavic literature??? And the stories are also based on slavic folklore.
This is not a Disney movie.
It's like saying the Harry Potter books are not british literature because it incorporates other cultures and other fantasy elements.
@@PureLuck-tk5tk Watch his interviews, that exactly what Andrezj said. He is big in diversity and inclusive universe, and also he got his slavic cultural roots, which goes together very well.
"As far as I remember, skin color isn’t discussed in detail in my books, so the adaptors can freely show their craft, everything is possible and everything is allowed, that’s how it could’ve been, after all. They made my blonde Zerrikanians dark haired in the comic, because the artist had his artistic freedom. " etc.
Is it his universe? Not anymore it's developed its own life based on the huge success of the books, comics, games and now the series. Be creative, open your mind, don't stay in your little box you locked yourself in. Or don't whatever you like.
I just didn't feel her as "Yennefer."
In my eyes it would have been the same issue, had they cast Freya Allan as Yennefer. This could also be a compliment to Anya, as she has a very young face.
The fan was correct. This was the worst casted show of all time.
laugh all you want, ur still not Yennefer. 😄
To be honest she was great as Yennifer in the show but I have to admit that she did not look like Yennifer at all
Imagine bragging about being in a failed tv show
I always love it when someone says an actor doesn't look like the FICTIONAL CHARACTER they are playing...
She isnt bad, but there were MUCH better out there, kate beckinsale was my favourite for yennefer
She is not yennefer from the books.
That dude was right though.
yeah, she doesn't look like Yennefer, even the casting director admitted to that. Although on her own she is pretty.
You're yennwfer rn but not for long 😅
The show was ruined by poor writing not because they cast her as Yennefer. Besides she has awesome norks.
Anya’s just doing her job as an actor as does it deserve to bear the brunt of criticism for the terrible writing of the show.
She isn’t Yennefer, but that’s through no fault of her own.

They are right. Yennefer was said to be pale skinned and ravened hair. This woman looks like she stepped straight out of a Bollywood village scene.

She's not white, but everything else is spot on. People are weird. Always have been, always will be.

So true. From first episode we all said that she's not the yenni
She is honestly the embodiment of book Yennefer for the most part. It's the writing that ruins her portrayal of the character for me
I stopped watching after season 3 anyways.
@@jessieliseem8182what do u mean stopped watching after S3? There r only 3 seasons released so far to my knowledge 😂
@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos that was clearly a typo. I meant season 2 and even if I do watch season 3 I won’t watch beyond that as Henry is no longer Geralt. Pretty easy to interpret, even with the typo.
