I ran the NYC marathon 3 times, and it was an incredible experience. The people of NYC were great. I fully support the idea of a marathon tax. If I can pay $150 for shoes, I can swing an extra $50 to help support NYC.

Only marathon I completed with the Marvel Movie Marathon. All the movies from Iron Man to Civil War in one sitting. Took just over 24 hours. Instead of water cups, we had coffee cups lined up for the participants.

I was really proud of my marathon run. It's an amazing accomplishment, especially if you keep it up. However, I never considered advertising that on clothes or car. I keep a medal in my drawer to remind myself, and keep motivated.
I would tell everyone. It's a real accomplishment. People are just jealous.

St. Louis has a HUGE park, Forest Park. It's 1.5 times the size of Central Park. There is a ton of room to hold a marathon in the park.

One time, I flew back home after a vacation, and driving from the airport to home, the natural path to drive home was blocked by a marathon. I had no idea that it was going to happen that day. I'm tired and I just want to get home. I had no idea how far out of my way I would have had to drive. How was I supposed to know the route of the marathon? The race wasn't too busy at the time, and the staff blocked it off for a minute so I could go through. I didn't want it to get to that point, but it was like "you randomly don't get to drive north today, so I guess you have to find somewhere else to sleep tonight."
You'd think someone would have put that up on Maps.

Lol I lived in NYC most of my life and the marathon has only entered my radar pretty much on the day of, when it became clear that you can't get from Staten Island to Brooklyn 😂 I'd curse the inconvenience and that was about it.

I know they hand out reflective silver 'blankets' for runners to wrap themselves in at the finish line of a marathon. I have gathered this prevents muscle cramping and extreme nausea that come on after stopping running such extreme distance. I would admit to having run one but......

Yes, it's a very popular race, so they only let a certain number of people in. I think if you're an elite, professional runner you may be invited to the race. That's not me.
