Full tutorial for a long sleeved, longer body version of my beginner friendly easy crochet wrap! It has chunky balloon sleeves and long ribbing to keep you warm but also give it shape at the waist. This cosy crochet sweater is to keep you warm this winter but also still give a flatting shape and style. It uses easy stitches such as single crochet and slip stitches, the main body is a herringbone stitch which gives it a lovely texture. Sorry for the slightly funny sound in places I had some microphone issues!
Hope you enjoy and if you do then don't forget to subscribe for future tutorials 🙃 Any questions let me know in the comments or message me on Instagram...

According to my calculations, the author used around 1290m of this yarn (or 1409 yards). She said around 700g in the comments, the yarn is Paintbox Simply Aran. Hook size 5mm for ribbing and 5,5mm for the rest. You're welcome
Love u for this
So excited to make this! I've written out the steps below in case that helps anyone else :)

Merci beaucoup!
Yes It helps me so much because I was blocked with the incrs. of sleeves .
Thank you so much!!
How do you stack them? I really don't get it
Cảm ơn bạn rất nhiều, nó rất có ích. Mình muốn hỏi kích thước của áo này, bạn biết thì vui lòng cho m xin nhé
Thank you! I was just about to write it down until I saw your comment. 😊
I love this colour and such a flattering shape!
Thank you 💚
Thank You so much! I've made it as a present for my mum!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! this tutorial is detailed and perfectly explained, probably the best I've seen here on CZcams, thanks, thanks, thanks! Liz, from Rome, Italy :-)
Cannot wait to make this! Thanks for such a wonderful tutorial
Thank you so glad you like it 💙
Oh wow! I have seen a picture of this sweater on Pinterest and now here is the video. Mind you the one on Pinterest was dark green and this one is blue. But I cannot believe there is a tutorial for it!!! Thank you so much for the step-by-step instruction. I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, but if there was a beginner level in the intermediate crochet world, that would be me 🤣🤣I really love the sweater and will definitely give it a try. I cannot believe how easy it is to put together. The end result looks very complicated and chic. Love it. 💖💖💖
This is so beautiful!! I have to make this!!! ❤❤❤❤
Love it! Fantastic jumper!
Thanks glad you like it 😊
Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you glad you like it 💚
Meus Deus que blusa mais linda!!!!Parabéns ❤❤❤❤
Hello! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH I CANT WAIT TO MAKW ONE !!! I’m curious how to go about making a larger sizes or smaller sizes ? I am a size large in the US but I also want to make one for my daughter ! Thank you so much
Oh, boy. In rewatching this to start the sleeve of my second half, I've realized that I was pulling through both loops once too early for the herringbone stitch! If that's a named stitch, I don't know what it is, but I am glad to say that it still looks lovely and still worked up into the same approximate shape/look. Which is good, because I am _so_ not going back at this point! Can't wait to finish the second side so I can join everything together and try it on properly! I have a feeling I'm going to like it, and hopefully I will do the herringbone stitch _correctly_ next time.
Hello and thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! I know in a previous comment you replied that the sleeve portion was 15 cm but could you please tell me, once you fold it in half, what the length at the top of your “triangle” is, and the length along the “straight” part is (ie from top of the cuff to top of the triangle which is basic at the sleeve plus body?) Thanks in advance! ❤
In my country most of the best wool is double knit and Aran is a lot less popular (not a great colour range), how would one adapt this if we had to use double knit?
I love this design. How can I make the jumper larger please?
I'm looking forward to making this! The sweater looks so pretty
Hey thanks so much 💚 No problem at all to make a video around that and thank you for asking! If you could just make sure it is only about the sleeve modification and does not go into the full tutorial steps, and please put a link to this tutorial - thank you 🙃
@@MadeleineShirley Of course :) Thank you so much! I think I will start crocheting this after christmas, so it might take some time
Hello 👋🏽. Thank you for this amazing tutorial! I want to make it for a friend. How many ball of yarn did you use please? Thank you very much ❤
Can I ask where I can find the written pattern please? I can't seem to find it. Also does the pattern have different sizing? Thanks the jumper looks gorgeous! Can't wait to make it!
Thanks you a lot for this tutoriel 🥰

Can I use a 3.0mm hook all throughout to make this type of top
Hello
Thanks for this tutorial ^^
Can you please precise the length of yarn you used ?
You can do it in all your tutorial it will really help us when we will buy our yarn 😊
It's not actually as helpful as it might seem, since the amount will vary pretty tremendously depending on what sized yarn you are using and what sized top you are making (and, to my knowledge, she did not state what commercial size the sweater she's making is closest to)! I can however tell you that I tend to wear a medium or large, and am cutting it awfully close using a total of 1080m of yarn (1180yd), if that's any help to you :)
(I have been doing the herringbone stitch wrong like a goober, though, so I think it would normally take even more yarn- I'd suggest to err on the side of excess yarn).
Hi, just wondering how many skeins of yarn this used
Is it a single or double herringbone stitch? A bit confused about how to do it so looking for written instructions too.
I just did mine with your other tutorial for a wrap top, it turned out amazing! The only problem is that I made bigger triangles (so sleeves) and can't wear a coat with it, anyway it'll be okay for March or April 😅
So glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I bet the sleeves look great though even if they're a bit chunky too for layers 😂
How do I adjust for a more petite size?
Making this with cotton Aran. I've got to 23 body rows and I feel like this jumper is going to be massive 😂
How many balls of yarn should we count to make this top? Would like to know before buying
hi, just wondering if when you said 15 more or the sleeve you meant that in total there would be 15 rows of just haribone stitches including the first 2?
This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking to make, thank you for sharing! Couple of questions though - if you want to shape it more for the waist is it as simple as taking the sleeve seams in further? And do you think your original wrap top could be adapted so that instead of ribbing on the body section a knit stitch could be used to make it more of an empire-waisted wrap top with a looser/drapey bottom body section? Does that make sense, lol?!
Hey glad you like it! Yes you can take in the waist more or less by adjusting the seams as you say. If you wanted to add a different stitch under the waist you definitely could, let me know how it turns out! 💚
@MadeleineShirley Cool, thanks for replying. I've followed you on my crochet Instagram account, will tag you when I've finished - hoping to go and buy yarn today! 😁
Love this. Could you tell me what size sweater you made in the tutorial? Thank you ❤
Hey this is a UK 10-12 💙
How much yarn will i need for a medium size?
what are the measurements of the cuffs?
Very beautiful. Please include size of yarn and needle. I'm a beginner. Can't wait to try this!
Hey Marlene you'll find this info under 'materials' in the description 🙃 I used Aran weight yarn and a 5mm/5.5mm book 💙 hope you enjoy making this one!
Amzaing my next project will be your sweater
Thanks hope you enjoy 💙
Is that a size small ?.
Can i make the same thing with just doublecrochets or half dc? I sont like the heringbone stich
Absolutely I don't see why not! Hope you love it when you're done 💙
I’m a bit confused on the seaming section with the cuff. Are you looping each outer stitch in the v onto the hook and then putting in the single crochet there? It wasn’t always easy to tell what loop was ending up on the hook so I’m a little lost here!
Hey I tend to try to pick up whichever is the 'outer' loop on both sides when doing the seams so that the 'inner' loops are showing on the outside when turned the right way. However when there is a chain starting row one side this can be tricky, so honestly I just pick up the one that I can and don't worry too much! I hope that helps 💙
I love this pattern, and I’m new at crocheting. Is there a way to make adjustments to make it a size small? I’m a US size 4.
I believe a US 4 is similar is size to a UK 8/10
Hey I am working on different sizes for this at the moment and hope to have a pattern available soon as a few people have asked me about size adjustments. If you follow me on Instagram I am planning to put an update there in the near future 💙
@@amandarose4781 Thank you!
@@MadeleineShirleyHi there, thank you for sharing this helpful tutorial! I'm relatively new to crocheting and this is my first time making a top. I looked on your insta and in the video description, but I couldn't find the written pattern with adjustments for different sizing.
You make it look so easy! Whenever I crochet something, it looks awful!
do you think it would be ok for me to use double crochet instead of hairing bone stitches because they make my hands cramp too much
Absolutely! It will just have a different stich effect overall but shouldn't alter the shape :)
@@MadeleineShirley Great thank you sooo much!!! :)))
What size is this😊?
So beautifull sweetie 🍭💖
Thank you 💙
Hi ! thank you qo much for this video ! Could you please mention how much yarn is needed for the full project ? i'm a beginner and I often end up missing yarn before I finish crocheting :(
Hey glad you like it! I used around 700g of aran weight yarn for this size, which is a UK 10/12. Hope that helps 💙
is this same desigh with what you did on deep green color? but the hook size is bigger here!
Hey its like an adapted form of my other wrap top but with longer sleeves and a longer body! If you want it a bit warmer or a bit more coverage maybe 🙃 I used aran weight yarn for this one so the hook size is bigger too x
@@MadeleineShirley i seeeeeeee thank you so much😆 i really love your top and im gonna definitely make thissssssss love your next pieces😆
Hey Madeleine, i'd love to crochet this sweater. How much grams of yarn did you need?
I also would like to know 😊
How many balls u have used?
Pity I can’t post a picture cause i can’t put it together, the ends are ending on the arms and that’s not how it’s supposed to be according to me…
Now it’s just laying useless and I really want to finish it.
Would be greatful if someone could help me out..
Hey can you explain what you mean by ending on the arms? You could send me a picture on instagram if you have it... 🤔

10:30 Hello! I have a question. Approx. how wide is the ending width of the sleeve/body after you get to the end? I followed the instruction but have a feeling mine is much too narrow. This could be due to the fact that I have only a 4.5mm and not a 5/5.5mm hook. Any suggestions for how I can compensate?
Thank you for this tutorial! 😊
Hey sorry I am a bit slow to reply! Do you mean the length from where the sleeve starts (top of the cuff) to the point that joins around the waist? It probably is a bit smaller if you used a hook size down, I would recommend you keep going with a few more rows to make it a bit longer and try it on as you go 💚
Hi
I’m so exited to make it
But i have a question
In sleeves we will repeat row 1 and 2 for 15 time or we will repeat row 2 for 15 time or we will make row 2 reverse row 1 and repeat in this way?!
If i want size 14 uk how many stitches should i do ?
Hey, for the sleeves you will do the herringbone rows with no increases. I did 15 rows for the length of my lower arm, I would recommend you try it on as you go 💚
Trying to make this and I'm a larger female would you just add more rows for a bigger waist or add another stitch each row per row??? If anyone who made it and adjusted the size could you let me know. I watched the video but maybe I missed something she said?
I would add more rows to the cuff, more rows to the sleeves, and more rows to the body piece. That way it’s evening out. But I would measure as I go and make sure it fits before continuing and it could take some trial and error. Hope this helps you out a little!
Hi Sierra, Lexie beat me to it with some great suggestions but thought I would chip in too! Adding rows to the cuff to start will help, the arms will then be a bit larger too. You don't need to necessarily increase the number of rows for the sleeve part, that will depend on the length of your arms/ your height. I would try that part on as you go to see where it sits on your forearm and against your body/waist. More rows for the body piece overall will make this bigger - another suggestion is to increase every other row if you need to make a larger piece so that it doesn't sit too high on the shoulders, but (as Lexie said!) best to try it on regularly as you go to see how it fits! Hope you can make it work for you and you love the finished result 💙
What size is this ?
@@emmalambert4096 I would say medium, UK 10/12 x
Can you please tell us the measurements in cm, how many cm is the cuff of 20 x 40, how many cm is the 16 rows before you start the body, and how many is the body (all counted from the middle of the cuff)?
We all use different yarn and needle. I tried making the cropped one but had to take it all out (was almost done) since it didn’t work with the sleeves (wanted them longer), don’t really want to start all over again on this one too (I’m supposed to start the body now on both).
Or if anyone else who made this can tell me the measurements it would be great!
when I count all Hb, I got 80 so I'm confused adding 20 Hb
Hey, sorry could you clarify which bit you mean for me? 🙃
Am I the only one who doesn't get how they stack? 😅
Nope
Hopefully it will be explained as I've just ordered the wool to make this
She has another video showing how
Does she start the body at the end where the tail of the starter row or the opposite end?
@@Cielosoair is it the short sleeved version of this? Can you link?
Echt zit voor geen meter aan het uithalen haak wel wat anders helaas
This is so frustrating.. I finished the two pieces, but I can’t seem to lay them right to finish the sweater, and apperently the author doesn’t really take a look at the reactions here.
I’d asked questions before, never gotten an answer and now that I hope to finish it I can’t cause in neither of the videos it’s (good) to watch how to lay the pieces right. If I lay them down now (as I think they should) it doesn’t fit, the corners are too long and the gap for head too.
PLEASE make some photos or another video to explain this better so that I (and probably more people) get how to put it together.
If this question (and my previous questions) are not answered I advice you guys to not start making this sweater!
Hi there, try this: fold each of the pieces into triangles, then align both top sections into a V shape, doing so will align the bottom sections with the arm/elbow sections on each side. Sew sew leaving opening for your head/body. Hope this helps. Wish I can upload photos for you but there’s no option for that….😢
