THE MOST SHOCKING LINTEL WE HAVE EVER SEEN !! WE ARE BACK FOR PART 2 OF THE WINDOW RE MODEL JOB.
FIRST WE PICK UP AND THEN INSTALL A 750 MM ANGLE IRON AND A 900 MM 100 X 75 MM CONCRETE LINTEL WHILE WE WAIR FOR OUR TWO SCAFFOLDS TO GO UP.
WE WE EVENTUALLY GET UP ON THE SCAFF WE HAVE LOST TOO MUCH OF THE DAY TO PUL BACK.
WE REMOVE THE BRICKWORK ABOVE THE LANDING WINDOW AND PROP WITH OUR ACROWS AND STRONG BOYS AS ALWAYS. THE BRICK WORK IS VERY HARD TO REMOVE BECAUSE THE LINTEL HAS RUSTED SO MUCH AND LIFTED THE WHOLE PIKE UP ABOUT 10 MM LEAVING A HUGE CRACK.
THE LINTEL IS IN A TRULY SHOCKING STATE....ENJOY

As somebody who works with old farm machinery it never ceases to amaze me the power of rust expansion it can literally force anything apart. It puzzles me that these were not galvanised. Do you think these were put in when the windows were changed to PVC and the original brick was just sat on the wooden window frame. I note it was wood lintel on the inside. interestingly enough my bungalow was the same as this timber beams inside and bricks saw directly on the wooden window frame 8 ft wide 😳
Too many like this to be remedial ones . Just a lot of lintels reaching their replace by date 😬🧱👍🏽
Good work, as always
😁🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
I loved watching that pointing clip, so relaxing to watch. Its nice to see the planning they're putting in for a stairlift, I hope they get many years of use from it. Belated Happy Birthday to Alex.
Thanks very much 🧱👍🏽
Nice to see a skilled craftsman at work : ) It was better in real time
🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Happy birthday Alex hope it was a good day
It was, thanks very much 🧱👍🏽👍🏽
Hey Alex HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You don't look a day over 20. Stay healthy.
😁🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Man those lintels are horrible 😮 good job on saving the house ;) and happy birthday Al 🎉
Worst one we’ve seen so far 😬🤢. Thanks Jay 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
watching you closely shows up how perfect you are in your jobs i am away at the moment back home in Ireland and the the only thing i have to do is catchup especially with Steve and the great Alex
😁thanks very much .
Enjoy your break 🧱👍🏽
If they had given that Angle two coats of red lead it would still be like new, Good job lads
🧱👍🏽
Belated happy birthday Alex, that lintel was the type that had factory fitted weight loss installed.
😆😆🧱👍🏽
Happy Birthday Alex and I find it hard with the quality of your work that people still question if you use tie clips. Steve slow down in the builders yard 😂😂😂😂😂
😏🧱👍🏽
Happy birthday Alex and a fine job the both of you. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Pal 🧱👍🏽
Why does the customer want smaller windows? Great vid!
Thanks Dan . Installing a stair lift 🧱👍🏽
Hi Lads. The lintel was actually proper angle iron, and not steel. The iron has delaminated over time, as you’ve found out. Good work, as always, cheers.
🧱👍🏽
Angle iron is only a generic term and has not been used probably since Victorian times. I’ve worked on and off the steelworks at Scunthorpe for 50 years and it’s still called angle iron in engineering construction although it is mild steel.
Exactly 👍@@riptiz
I wonder if the rest of the lintels have gone the same.
None that bad 🧱👍🏽
Happy Bday Alex, great skills and video again lads
Cheers Gary 🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Awesome video thanks lads very much appreciated top job top team 🇬🇧
Thanks Phil 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Wow @8:18 the lintels went together like a piece of quality Ikea furniture😉
🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Great idea to include the prep and fit, focus viewer on the quality of workmanship and silence the moaners
🧱🧱👍🏽
Belated happy birthday Alex, 24 years old and getting wiser. You have a great future in the brick trade. Keep it up lad. As for that metal lintel, be it steel, or iron, I can see a lot of houses on that estate with the same issues as this. Could be a big earner for you both if you do some investigating. & some door to door sales. Just a thought. 🖖👍
We have plenty to do a lot closer to home 🏡 😆🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Fair nuff guys, just a thought in days of today, and earning a decent crust with how money is tight.
It’s steel, iron doesn’t delaminate like this and hasn’t been used for lintels since Noah. The problem is it wasn’t galvanised when it went in. Iron wouldn’t bend like it was when Steve was bending it, it would shatter as it’s very brittle. A lot of old railway bridges are iron.
@riptiz 🧱👍🏽
Cheers and a big Happy Birthday 🎉 Alex. Have you ever considered using a mortar gun and can bricks be dyed for a closer match.
Thanks . Never tried the gun and you can get bricks tints but I’ve never seen any good ones 😒🧱👍🏽
Just caught the end of the Premier. Another fantastic episode considering the setbacks. Did you get chance to do the minor repair off your scaffold? It can be frustrating waiting for other trades but understandable when one of them is off I'll. See you on the next instalment take care
All sorted Nigel .
Thanks 🧱👍🏽
That rusty steel certainty did some damage. Was the original lintel ungalvanized and painted plus the fact the tray didn't cover it over and there were no weep holes?
Hi Martin. Perhaps if builders had been aware of future problems they would have done things differently. There must be many thousands of these faults lurking all over the country 😱@@martin2466
😆😆😆🧱👍🏽
What saw bit did you use in the reciprocating saw to cut out the mortar? Thanks for the video guys.
Bosch carbide masonry 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
I love your videos you 2 do great work I don't understand why they wanted there windows reduced it will be a dark house keep up the great work
Thanks for watching! They are getting a stair lift 🧱👍🏽
Exactly!!! Maybe they were originally from Transylvania! 😂
@@kestutisbagusauskas8323 good guess but wrong 😂😂
With careful choice of decor, there will be plenty of light.
@davidkemble3419 Absolutely Dave 🧱👍🏽👍🏽
Looks like you were carrying a bit of an injury Steve. Hope you're better now?
No Matt due for a hip replacement any day now 😬🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Bloody hell Steve - I can't believe you are working through that! Best of luck with the Op, I hope the NHS comes through for you.
👍
👍🏽🧱
Hi Steve, how come Alex doesn’t drive..?
Not learned yet 😬🧱👍🏽
He should do a crash course 😂, seriously though, it would be money well spent, two drivers is a massive help.
🧱👍🏽
It beats me just how much rubbish builders you two find. Didn't see too much of Alex this time Steve but you could see where he had been. Just keep posting videos please they are great to watch. Best regards as always Ken
Cheers Ken, will do 🧱👍🏽
You coudn''t sell that rusty lintel for scrap you''d have to sell it as iron ore!
🤣🧱👍🏽
Rust can exert 4 ton per square inch of force.
Scary 😬💪🏽🧱👍🏽
🧱👍🏽
@@martin2466 I was told this many years ago and googled it after watching the video. It came back as 9000psi which equates to 4 ton. Now I’m waiting for you to tell me it’s wrong! 😀
@phil6465 🤯🤯🧱👍🏽
Has the window tax kicked back in?
What is the window tax ?
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Over a hundred years ago houses were taxed according to number of windows causing people to brick up windows.
@@phil6465There's a village near me that still as old properties with windows bricked up.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Imposed in England in 1696, the tax-a kind of predecessor of the modern property tax-was levied on dwellings with the tax liability based on the number of windows. The tax led to efforts to reduce tax bills through such measures as the boarding up of windows and the construction of houses with very few windows.
@MikeTowler-kw3ly 😳🧱👍🏽
Omg! How long can one person waffle about a rusty lintel!? 🥱
🤣🤣🧱👍🏽
The delamination of that angle iron was nasty, obviously holding water for many years, around that area of Lancashire, you're more like International rescue than builders 😂👍🧱
🫡🤣🧱👍🏽
@@martin2466 😂 didn't notice that 😂👍
