  • In response to a comment from a subscriber, in this video we will learn how to convert a four way flat trailer connection to a seven way round trailer connection, and add brake wiring at the same time. We will also cover adding an optional break away trailer brake kit.
I hope you enjoy this video as it breaks down the process in detail and provides a few different options and suggestions.

This video explains it so well, thanks for the illustrations. I always use to say why's there so many dadgum wires in there? Well now I know why. Keep it up . I'm learning something new all the time.

I just purchased a utility trailer and was unsure about the electrical connections to my truck. Your video cleared up a lot of confusion for me. It's an Apogee folding trailer, so I have some additional things to consider, but I now have a solid foundation with which to work. Thanks.

Does gauge of wire matter? I believe I have it hooked up correctly, but am getting nothing. But, if I hook it up to the black wire, I do get power to the lights. But when I have it hooked up as it should, nothing shows up.

Hi Todd! Hope I can help. Can you give me a little more information? When you "hook it up" what is it ?

@@PaulsOutdoorAcademy Yes sir! So I have a trailer with the old 4-way flat and I bought a new 7-way round on amazon. It came with a pre-wired box and looks like the plug at 5:47 on your video... but has the color of RV and not Standard. The LED light system I bought from Amazon came with what appears to be 18 gauge wire that I rewired the entire trailer with. When I "hook it up," I mean I put the brown, yellow and green wires where they should be and the ground to the trailer. Then, plug the 7-way to the tow vehicle and turn it on, and nothing happens. But, if I put the wires (green, yellow and brown) on the black terminal (which I believe is power), then they light up. If I hook them to the blue (break) terminal, I get a faint blinking every 3 seconds.

@@ToddBeilman ok I think your issue is that your wires will need to go to different locations. I can help you cross reference. I wish I had one of those RV connectors so I could do a video of converting them. I may try to do one just using graphics.
could you email me a photo of the one you got at amazon, or put a link here? I will go look at how it is configured.

oh, ok. I think I understand. You have the red wire, not the purple. Is it this one by any chance?
