Here is the Moment of Truth! EPSON P800 OEM vs Precisioncolors PCK3HD inks

  • Here it is! After printing a ton of large images through the EPSON P800 I am now finally sure that I am pretty much running on the Precisioncolors PCK3HD inks and have pushed out all of the OEM inks.
    So the test is as follows.
    The same pair of images is printed using OEM profiles for Premium Luster on Luster paper.
    Side by side comparisons are then made.
    According to my results I would highly recommend this inkset for the current EPSON P800 with out reservations!!!

    Great work Jose, being in the inkjet service for over 15 years, please let that newest print dry for 24 hours and then do your comparison, that print should be color dry in the papers coatings. But right now I think you have some great ink at a great savings.

      I will recheck tonight! Of course I should wait till it is dry, I just could not wait to compare!!! Yes this ink seems to e perfect choice for the P800 and P600 at this time. If I am able to check other inks I will post the results!

    I just bought a full set of OME inks from eBay. A lad with excellent feedback had it on there, but I missed the auction. I emailed him and he put it back up and I snapped the full set for $325, which is a great price compared to the Epson or B&H websites. Anyway, I'm hoping they get here safe and sound. I got lots of printing to do!

    What are your thoughts on longevity/fading on the OEM vs. 3rd party inks? Also, some weeks ago you talked about sending some prints to Wilhelm institute for testing. How is this going and how about sending prints with 3rd party inks?
    Thanks and keep up the good work.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 8 lety

      There is no data about that yet! I would assume that longevity will be less than OEM as will any other 3rd party ink vs oem!
      There are no plans for any testing at this time unless PC decides to do so.

      Except now we know these or any other refillable will not work beyond the first use. They will not reset and they will render the printer only able to accept OEM carts from that point on. Epson's programmers have done it very well!

    Jose Como esta deseo bien..
    no entiendo mucho ingles pero creo que usted aconseja que si nuestras fotos son para venderla se debe usar OEM tintas..
    si es así entonces para que invertir en tintas de terceros..? (sera tan mala la calidad de la tinta de terceros?)
    Yo pienso que tinta es tinta y pinta..
    y la otra pregunta es acerca de la EPSON P800.estoy pensando comprar una y encuentro 3 versiones
    1---SCP800SE
    Standard Edition
    2- SCP800DES
    Designer Edition
    3-SCP800SP
    Screen Print Edition
    cual es la diferencia si usted la conoce pues cambia de precio según el modelo .
    Gracias un millón por su ayuda....Jhon

      No es que so malas pero que uno no debe de vender fotos echas con otras tintas que no son OEM. Seria una trampa. Tendrias que esplicar en forma escrita que ud no estal entregando photos imprimidas con las mejores tintas. Is vende tdebes de usar OEM. SI solamente lo haces com "Hobby" pues entonces estaria OK! Eas es my filosofia sobre este tema! Todos esos modelos de la P800 son 100% identicos. No estoy completamente seguro pero creo que la uniqua diferencia es uno viene con un RIP software incluido I otro viene con el mismo RIP I ademas con equipo integrado para producir " Custom " Perfiles para tus papeles!

    Wait Jose, I’m confused. I just saw your video from 5 years back saying the Epson p800 will not only not reset if you don’t replace OEM carts with OEM carts-but it will also lock it as well?? Has that issue been resolved since then?? I just bought an Epson P800 because I saw this particular video here giving me the impression Precisioncolor inks were a viable option to OEM. Thanks much!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 5 lety +1

      That was 5 years ago and WE the Buying world were not aware of what was to come about the P800.
      OEM carts can not be reset. Then or Now. Third party refillable carts will be seen as full the FIRST time you use them. But will not reset on on ANY North American Zoned Printers. This info has been available for a few years already. NO ONE was aware of this. ALL the sellers were caught by surprise as reports started to come in.

I have a question I have used non OEM inks for years on my Canon, I recently switched to an Epson SC-p800 and want to go non-OEM again, have you used any of these non-oem inks and your thoughts: Marrutt or INK JET CARTS and how do they compare to the Precision inks? Thanks again

      I was hoping Marrutt through with carts and ink. But...... So I only was able to test PC. So far I have been able to use OEM profiles. But I am sure you will extract even more with a custom one. I will be doing that later down the road.

      Sure. When it comes to dye I is. Pigment inks, even these will last a few facades. I have other prints framed under glass that are years old and are still perfect. Maybe the use of 3rd party inks is not your cup of tea. And to that I say, you are right, and that is the best way to go. I also use nothing but OEM inks on all my other printers. But many do not have that luxury and that's why I have this channel.

      There is no viable working option for the p800. So for the time being OEM is your only choice. Carts will cost about $120 or more ad precisioncolors PCK3HD inks run $15 per 4oz per color.

    @Yalelax Před 8 lety

    Hello Jose: I note your important comments about the longevity of prints made with the third party inks. Many here would opine that such longevity issues are a major detriment when using non OEM inks. Are any third party inks subjected to Wilhelm or other "longevity" tests? You would likely agree that to see a print made with third party inks fade after a few years would be a major problem.
    Are the various third party inks made by those who supply such inks, or are most of the inks produced by one or two "chemists" who sell to the various "resellers"? Also, one might suspect that only one or two companies make the carts that are used by the various companies that sell third party inks. In sum and substance, one must ask how many companies are REALLY making their own inks and carts!
    I agree that Cone will certainly produce a "third party" package for the P800. Is there any reason to think that Jon's inks will be any different, better, have more longevity, etc., etc. then the inks from Precisioncolors? Another way of asking the question is to wonder if there is a "hierarchy" of third party ink providers in which one might consider a given product to be superior to another.
    All who print our own images owe you a considerable debt for the time, effort, and expense that you have incurred on our behalf.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 8 lety

      Dr. Elliot, ALL inks regardless of manufactures will fade. How soon or how quickly that occurs all depends of the environmental conditions that print "lives" in. A woman in the UK was using Precisoncolors dye inks for the PRO-100 and her prints were fading in a matters of weeks even using OEM Canon Paper. And yet No one else I know has experienced that type of rapid print deterioration. Both Ardernburg and Wilhelm basically do not perform many tests on 3rd party inks. They do but not too often. It is up to the people who sell these inks to summit printed samples for testing but it seems they do not. Image Specialists was the USA's biggest inkjet ink manufacturer. There another one in Tampa FL I believe. Those two companies basically provided ALL other USA resellers. The resells are also know to custom "Blend" their inks sets for better matching to OEM. Many of them do. Inkjetmall ( CONE ) is going to provide a set for the SC P series but I have not yet seen any substantiated details on what it will be. A complete revamped set of the upgrading of the Black as was posted a few months ago. The yellow OEM counterpart of the EPSON SC P series ink set has been upgraded for much better longevity as well as the blacks. have all the other colors been blended, balanced and recalibrated? Probably as well. CONE inks are made by ONE lab in China exclusively for them. They are Microencapsulated but the PCK3HD inks from PC are also M. Encap so there you go. The gloss is so good as to not make me miss the original inks my P800 came with.As far as any Hierarchy goes, the costliest inks have always been CONE flowed by possibly Inkrepublic / Ink owl and then all the rest basically fall around the base price of about $14-$15 per 4oz

    • @Yalelax
      @Yalelax Před 8 lety

      Thanks Jose.
      Can you tell us more about the carts used by Precisioncolors? Does one need to remove the chips from the OEM Epson carts and add the chips to the carts from Precisioncolors? As you know, Jon Cone's carts for the 3880 needed to have the OEM chips from the Epson ink carts added to the Cone carts.
      I appreciate your response about longevity. However, if one is selling one's prints then not being able to be completely confident concerning the longevity of third party inks ( vs. the OEM inks ) would IMO prevent one from selling such prints with the guarantee that such prints reflect the latest "best practice digital prints" which the customer certainly expects. Of course, if one is printing for oneself then issues concerning longevity are less critical.
      Elliot

      I just checked Jon Cone's site. Now there is indeed a Cone set for the P600 and one set is advertised as being "archival".

    • @Yalelax
      @Yalelax Před 8 lety

      The system is a continuous feed system. I gather that individual carts similar to the ones at Precisioncolors are no yett available.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 8 lety

      Yes. I always preach that if you are selling prints as a business then OEM is the only choice. Refillables for PRO 3800 and 3880 require all your original chips to ride under the controller chips. That might also be the case with the P800 for CONE as he is merely using the same cart chassis and controller chips as well. Precisoncolors carts do not use that older technology. The carets come with factory mounted auto reset chips.

    Love your channel! Now I live in Europe so we don't have these problems, may be because the European Union and its lawyers are not so forgiving to companies that try to blackmail us into their products....And that is a good thing. May be Epson sees a lawsuite coming...?
    Two questions:
    1) Those great inks are also available for the 3800. But it is black. From Precision COlors....Do these then produce the same IQ as the the P800 or is there more to it?
    2) Cone color is saying something I mention in 1)...Get better ink, not another (read: P800) printer. I would say sometjin similar of I cannot sell my ink for P800 users....But may be you know more?
    3) Autoreset..do these autoreset how??? When? never saw a youtube vid showing how it works exactly.
    THX!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety

      The PCK3HD inks can be retrofitted to be used on other Non SC EPSON printer such as PRO3880 R3000 R2880 and any other vivid magenta Epson K3 printer. Same with CONE PRO K3 inks. Their new black inks add extra density not found on other commonly available MK inks. I have not rested CONEs new PK so can not comment but the Ultra HD HD is definitely denser and will increase the depth of your deeper tones but only after profiling.
      Auto rest chips work in this manner. When a cart chip reaches empty the printer will no longer recognize it. You remove the cart, fill it and re insert it in the printer and the chip is reset to full. That functionality is blocked on North American regioned P800 models.
