After 6 years of heavy drinking hard liquor I finally caved it and I tried killing myself. My withdrawal was the absolute worst,, aside from the constant trembling and DT’s through the ceiling I finally went into treatment. The 30 day treatment saved my life and I haven’t drank since March 27.

good luck man, you can do it
Going to AA, for support, can be a life saver. Support while getting off of any drug, is extremely helpful. This cannot be emphasized enough.
If something like AA is not possible, if you know anyone that has gotten sober, give them a call. Someone once told me,” your mouth will save your ass!” It saved my life.
Good luck.
It’s been two months have you stayed sober?
Try taking magnesium supplements and B6- B12 for muscle and nerve regulations.
Still sober..?
All you literally need to do is slowly taper your intake and practice self discipline like you never have before. Don't rush the process
My uncle did sonethong like this. Dude was a heavy heavy drinker like downing 750ml of vodka for breakfast kind of guy. One day he asked if i could get him a cup like the one i put my protein shakes in. I didnt thkbk much about but he was using it to measure how much alcohol he was drinking. Hed fill it up to like 500ml at first and then the lowest ive seen him have it at was 150ml one day, he ended up quiting after a while. Now im back down the alcphol recovery hole because its my turn now hahaha im down to 1 tall boy can a day from dinking 6-8
I was pounding a handle a night of 100 proof, and I can tell you there was no slow taper for me. I had to go straight to the hospital and I'm so happy I did.
@@user-eg3df2db9g go to AA brother, it helps
They give alcoholics benzos because they effect the same gaba receptors it will help them with seizures and anxiety agitation and delirium tremens

If you feel like you're going to have a heart attack, go to the ER. But I've out worn all my options (7 rehabs, multiple ER visits) now I ween off with about 6 beers for 3 nights, 4 beers for 3 nights, 3 beers for 2 nights, 2 beers for 2 nights and you'll be ok. You will not sleep well for 4 days garunteed. Sweats, runny nose, fuzzy vision, confusion, nightmares and feels like little ants on you all night. Alcohol is a horrible drug. But if you go back to the liquor you will just go back into the same withdrawals when you stop. Weening with the beers with a plan to stop drinking by doing it, is the only way to escape the addiction.
This man is right, my dad is going through withdrawal rn in the hospital and he is hallucinating saying stuff that doesnt make sense, if it weren’t for the hospital he’d be dead
Hope your dad is doing ok. The withdrawals and hallucinations he experienced is no joke. Keep supporting him.
I hate the chronic insomnia
Me too😢
Me too 😢
Take nyquil severe, I take it for sleep and kratom helps with the pain of withdrawal and weed to help eat. Once I feel I'm past the hard part I just go through that sober without any help from my "medicine"
It’s all situational. If you feel like you’re about to have a heart attack go to the ER. Your central nervous system is use to being in a depressed state. When you stop your brain isn’t use to all the stimuli which can trigger your fight or flight mode. Crazy stuff.
Treatment is also expensive as hell... its not an option for some ppl..
I feel sad reading this because you're probably in a country where they make you pay for LIFE SAVING help.
I'm in France, and just like most European countries it's entirely free. Hope that you can overcome the withdrawals alone, but please stay safe and do it slowly
@@Law-_it can cost 5-10k here in the US. Hospitals are even worse, some charge 25$ for an 8 oz can of ginger ale. It’s not an option for at least 80% of people.
I can't go back to the hospital cuz they told if I came back again they are gonna have me court ordered so I gotta do it at home
You can buckle down and will power your way through insomnia, anxiety, shakes, hallucinations, body aches, nausea, vomiting, cold sweats. You can't will power your way through a seizure. You can't will power your way through a heart attack. Talk to a doctor, do it safely. If you're trying cold turkey and your symptoms get bad, get to an ER. You're getting sober to save your life, it isn't much good if you die on the way there.
This is why I keep drinking
@egolifter1235 what are you putting me down for what I said? I don't have a choice or so, I believe. I can't go to the hospital or rehab. I have to continue to function. You saw your sins while hallucinating on alcohol? How much did you drink? You seem drunk by what you're saying. Exposing your 3-4 day hallucination then saying "but on the good part that's an instant cure" like you just cured yourself. You sound proud. If you woke up in hell why are you acting this way? Drama queen drunk.
Tips for going through alcohol withdrawal: Get professional treatment. Very helpful, thanks a lot for that one.
#1: Taper off slowly, don't rush it. I personally have tapered off in 7 days but that was only after 3 months of heavy drinking nightly. I'd say call your primary care doctor and see if they can get you a script for a benzo, these help a ton if used correctly and you actually cut down usage.
Me too smfh😢
My alcohol withdraw right now after drinking stuff friday made me feel so depressed.
I've been drinking for 20 years and now my blood is always low,😢ive had to get blood 5 times within 2 years,i gotta stop drinking
Stupid advice unless you have health insurance. This is America not Canada we go broke going to the ER here bro
THIS IS THE TRUTH!
Being broke is better than being dead. If you go to a doctor ahead of time and put a reasonable plan together, you can usually get away with it for the price of a few prescriptions, a few hundred bucks if you're uninsured. If you're going into the ER it's because you've fucked up bad and you're trying to save your life, or you're so deep into rock bottom that you and the doctors both know there's not a chance you're paying for anything. You can safely detox on your own if you ween off gradually, but there are not that many people who are alcoholic to the point of dangerous withdrawals who can stick to a strict regiment of drinking progressively less every day.
I have cold turkeyed alcohol twice at home, first time not so bad just a lot of cravings, the second time though the first week of it was absolute hell. Talk about muscle spasms, heart palpitations, heart racing, sweating like crazy, it was quite a lot to deal with but I also realized that drinking between 4 to 8 years a day isn't quite the level of someone who is drinking between 10 to 20 a day so thankfully I didn't have any seizures or delirium tremens
Plz tell me some good books to support my boyfriend that is 15 days in to detox I want to be as supportive as possible
You're a good person
If you are heavily addicted to alcohol, definitely get help, the withdrawal can be a killer!
Pregabalin-aka as Lyrica, can be helpful with some of the symptoms, if you don’t have insurance and can’t afford a detox/rehab. It can help with the anxiety and it’s an anti-seizure med.
I went through the 7 day period of detox and survived and whooooo it sucked but totally worth it
My worst experience involved coming to the ER with .53 BAC , i was put in a coma for 3 weeks. Acute care was 3 months at the hospital, aftercare was a year at a nursing facility. The coma had atrophied my muscles. I was ventilator dependant after waking, they decided that they could put me on a bi-pap as opposed to a tracheostomy. The whole thing weakened me very much and it took me over a year to get back to a normalish state.
This is coming from an addiction center that will make money from you going there so of course they are going to say " I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING IT ON YOUR OWN", but we can do it on our own. You just have to make that decision and mental toughness your way through it.
You obviously know absolutely nothing about withdrawal.
You clearly know nothing about alcohol withdrawal. When you have been drinking heavily for years, it can and will kill you. Choosing not to pick up a drink again is mental toughness but you can't mental toughness your way through a stroke.
What are you talking about, he is not lying. Amy winehouse had the same idea you had. "They try to make me go to rehab but I said no" -amy winehouse
Bro thinks alcohol withdraw is like what those
Junkies go thru 💀 nah bro this shit actually kills you
Severe alcohol withdrawal can kill you, so getting help is necessary if you are heavily addicted to alcohol.
Alcohol withdrawal can be more dangerous than heroin withdrawal. Seizures, tremors, delirium tremors, hallucinations, and more, can occur with alcohol withdrawal. Roughing it, can be deadly.
I don’t work for any rehab so this has been my experience.
I do have a degree in Addiction studies, so this is also why I know this.
I was sober 3 weeks, got some news that derailed me because I just couldn’t talk to anyone that would just listen, regardless it’s on me but very hard to do on your own
I call BS on this. I was a professional alcoholic and decided to quit cold turkey. Yeah it sucked for 4 days, but I didn’t need hospital help
Im on day 4 right now and totally agree.
@@hunterwade560 this is really helpful thanks
That’s how I know you’re not a alcoholic. No one says “ I was a professional alcoholic” when they’re alcoholics. They’ll say they’re fine or they can quit whenever they want. Stupid comment.
I'm a professional too, I drink half a fifth of 80 proof vodka a day. As a fully functional person. Am now lactose intolerant, and on a special diet for foods I can't eat, as well as can't have caffeine. I made the decision tonight to stop cold turkey.
Depends how much you drink. Im a light alcoholic and my withdrawals are mostly mental and physical weakness. But if you drink like 1 liter of vodka per day your withdrawals will be shaking and high blood pressure, it is dangrous
Nah. U can do it alone. Just the meds u need and just stop drinking. For some people, U really don't need AA and rehab. U can do it alone, It will make u stronger
What meds? When I went inpatient last time seemed like the only medd they gave me was basically benadryl and b vitamins? I'm thinking a lot of relaxing teas and gabapentin and maybe even some kratom and kava here or there
6th day here, drank for 5 years straight, yesterday my withdrawals peaked, it was absolute hell but I'm feeling better today, I also tapered off, in reality I've actually been quitting for 2 months now, it's just at this point that I'm able to stop completely
True
@@David-gp3fdis gabapentin good for withdrawal? Doesn’t it give you withdrawal itself ?
Looool. You absolutely cannot do it on your own.
They hit me the hardest at 1 and a half weeks in.....a couple of days of sweating, feeling way off and low energy. Im at 2 weeks and feel better so far. well see at the 30 day mark. Ive been told it takes 3-6 months sometimes a year for the brain to reboot, reinstall and self correct itself fully.....So its definitely a process. This is coming from a guy that abused it and was a binge drinker for nearly 30 years...scary man scary
For real. What was you’re strategy? Referring to comments. I need to lower this alcohol level of mine.
How long of a bender are we talking? I went on a 5 day bender boozing pretty hard (all beer) and the next 3 days I was wrapped full of anxiety and would fall asleep only to wake up an hour later. I drank a few beers to even out the nervous system and after those 3 days I felt rejuvenated. Not sure if those were minor withdrawals or full blown anxiety?
Anxiety finds its way into your life no matter what substances you use. The problem with anxiety is that you NEED a substance CONSTANTLY to fix it. Depression comes along with it as well. You can be sober for months and still suffer from anxiety because it’s an entirely separate issue. People who are unfortunately plagued with anxiety will have to find other ways to deal with it, whether that be working out at the gym, collecting baseball cards, playing video games, working, etc. it’s not fun, but it is curable. But only YOU can cure it.
Before drinking was an every day thing for me, I would go on benders too. I don't think you should worry too much about withdrawals from a 5 day bender and worry more about the fact that the only solution you could find to the anxiety was a few more beers, and how much alcohol you consume overall. I was always very anxious and paranoid and shakey for a bit after a bender.
Those were minor withdrawals, yeah. Went through the same thing myself, at first I thought I had just developed an anxiety problem out of the blue but after a while I realized the correlation with drinking, the next couple days after heavy drinking I'd have a sense of impending doom and next to no sleep. They get worse as you get older or as your habit gets worse. What you experienced is what we'd call an early warning sign. Do with that what you will.
I tried that advice, they said sure we can help that will be 10k including with my good insurance. Sorry I’m just barely getting by. I’ve tried many different things.
How u doin?
Your best and safest option, after medically supervised detox, is a gradual diy detox. Steadily reduce the amount you drink over a period of a couple weeks, once you're down to one drink a day maintain that for a few more days, then quit entirely. Figure out your average daily intake, make a schedule for weening off of that average, stick to it religiously. It will still suck, and it will suck for a longer amount of time than cold turkey, but your symptoms will not be nearly as severe and your risk of severe harm will be reduced to basically nothing.
I drink 2 to 4 shots a day. But a couple hours in between. I think my withdrawal will be minimal
I’ve done it multiple times. It was tough, but you can absolutely absolutely do it.-start juicing and taking plenty of vitamins that will help with the dehydration exercise multiple times a day that will reduce the anxiety as well as blood pressure!
Can you pay for the time off?
Yea I just got out of a rehab today. I did a taper with Valium and comfort meds. So first few days they knock you out pretty good, then you skip one of the valium a day, then decrease the dose. Essentially if done correctly you shouldn’t even notice.
I had taken Valium at the rehab I was at but after 2 days I realized it made me sleepy and lazy so I stopped taking it and I felt much better. I hate it
Almost 2 and a half years of drinking heavy haven't drank a drop in 2 days just trying to have water in my system as much as possible
Water, Food, and plenty rest. Will do it.
Juice helps also bc it has sugar.
Comfort foods help to make ur body feel happy to replace the feelings alc gave u.
But you cant just get treated unless you have lots of money the hospital just turns you away and tells you to have a drink in my case
1 week in bed, DT s for last 3 days, I relapsed because I felt like I could die, I stopped cold turkey and one time I had a seizure and I ve called the ambulance, one more seizure few days ago and after DT s, hallucinations are nothing beside DT s, pray for me as I pray for everybody to get through, who says this isnt real is not an alcoholic
I'm on day 8, pretty sure I almost died last night. But I was a professional alcoholic, so I know that I can do this shit at home.
Good luck, I'm on week2. The headaches are bad. The urges are getting worse.
I drank heavily (750ml/ a day) for over 10 years. I dont even have hallucinations anymore I just go straight to DTs. Fun stuff having seizures while driving after your last drink
Same. All of 2022 and 2023
I spent waking up at 4 am. About 1 or 2 hours away from having a full blown withdrawal, sip on a beer until I can move. Then party till midnight. But yeah dude I didn’t even have withdrawals last year lol, just straight to DTs like you.
Omg it’s beyond the most painful thing I’ve ever felt. Fuckin 8 days zero sleep, seeing shit, feeling shit, hearing shit, times 1000. You know. Glad you’re good
Im so fucking scared.
Man they have scared tf out of me, I was young drinking I didn’t know it did all this to you… I’m fucking terrified
My nephew is 23 and is so close to rock bottom. I really hope he gonna get help. I cant push him into the hospital ... he needs to make that decission by its own. I really really hope he gonna have a clear moment to realize how deep he already is.
How do you know someone you care about is entering alcohol withdrawal so you can get them help in time?
Another key thing is don’t make excuses saying oh I will have one more ,nope you put it down forever there is no going back. Birthdays, outing, parties, nothing, peer pressure. They have to stop. If I could make it illegal I would. Out of all the drugs it’s the hardest to stop because of the withdrawals weed does the same thing. Any drug that alters your mood, mean makes you feel good, does the same in heavy users that try to stop. Don’t listen to the ones that say they stopped and didn’t have something go on with them that’s because they are still doing it behind close doors. They need to listen to their body and what it’s telling them. Them friends have to go. If they are still drinking or what ever their drug of choice is. A lot of my friend are wondering why I’m not showing up anymore. Well because peer pressure when I say I’m quit they say no your not hit it again, or you will being drinking this weekend. That’s not what I need in my life because I want to enjoy without it. It sucks because I care about my friends but the reality is you have to fix your self and then go back later but they can’t ride if they don’t support your next moves in life. I’m just glad, this go around, I caught it before it got as far as it did last time. So hope people read this and learns from it ,you can do it without alcohol and drugs. It’s rough but worth it. By the time it over with you will have just as much fun with friends not drinking as you did while drinking. I know words have powerful meaning if used right. There will be a time when something will trigger it. Just thinking back to the horrible things you had to go through to quit and that should be more than enough to say no. Because one leads to three three turns to six. You have to say no and stand up for yourself. If they say oh just have one leave and go home and don’t feel bad for either. Because that’s not supporting you and your happiness. Your not telling them to stop drinking so you are supporting them in what makes them happy. Alcohol wasn’t making you happy. That’s way they say speak to someone so you know how to tell people how you feel in this kind of situation. Peer pressure is the worst. Because you feel like your letting your friends down when your not you drink your letting yourself down. Believe me they will feel that alcohol in the morning. It’s sad but it’s true. I didn’t get this mind set on my own I have Jesus to think for that. Drinking was slowing me down from the life he has in store for me and I lost sight of that. I believe anyone do anything the put their mind to but you have to put your mind to it. If your feeling lost talk to someone. Been there before too. Didn’t know how to ask but lucky I had a brother that seen it was getting to far out of hand and he stepped in. I was mad at him at first but I knew why he did later on. And for me to pick drinking back up makes his efforts worthies so I’m not going to tell him this time I’m going stand strong and fight it. Jesus has my back and I know my brother would be proud. Few for things if your have depression and you are trying to quit just know it will be okay in about a month just cry it out. Crying will get all the emotions out what ever they are.
Note :I feel okay just anxious night sweats and small tremors in my hands. But I got this. And anyone else going through the same I really do hope you find a way.

if you compare the severe withdrawal symptoms of both heroin and alcohol I’ll give you a list for both starting with alcohol withdrawal with delirium tremens which occurs with severe alcohol withdrawal: hallucinations, seizures, extreme confusion, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, high body temperature, agitation and sweating and with severe heroin withdrawal the symptoms are: feeling very jittery and nervous, anxiety, diarrhea, muscle cramps, sweating and goosebumps, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate, runny nose and watery eyes, muscle and joint pain which in conclusion shows that severe alcohol withdrawal with delirium tremens is deadlier than heroin withdrawal
