Hi Kate, I love your frugal talks. I totally agree with you, it is the same here in Australia, inflation is out of control, everyday families struggling. It feels like a crash is coming. So glad I got on the frugal train years ago, and minimalism helps so much too. We are like you, focusing on paying off our mortgage early, living within our means, and saving. The peace of mind is priceless

Kate, let me tell you... I've been reading a murder mystery all week and I couldn't get in the frame of mind to cook or clean. It made me into a zombie. I finally got done with it and I said let me watch some Kate videos to get me in the right frame of mind. I put my headphones on and often I just listen while I work. I started the day listening to some John Denver, put your videos on and got to work. I washed the pillows on my couch, scrubbed the couch and chair, washed all the wooden furniture, mopped, washed three dog beds and blankets, cleaned and organized all of the upper cabinets in the kitchen and a few of the lower cabinets. I also made a marinade for my chicken - all while listening to you. It really helps!
My videos are long enough to get a house built.
Re: frugal re:community I’m trying to start a community with like minded friends and renting a house together and hosting community events (meditation, yoga, potlucks) living together and sharing the cost of everything should be easier not just financially but emotionally and otherwise. We are starved for community and third spaces in this society of late stage capitalism and consumerism.
I agree and small communities is what we need. You have a great idea there.

Hi Kate, I used to use beets in smoothies, but they are so hard to cut up to blend.- had the texture of wood! Glad you are filming extra videos so when you need a break, we still get videos to watch 😃 it doesn't bother me at all that they are made ahead. Nice that you have your cruise wardrobe together already, what a great neighborhood where people just put their spring clean items out front for all to take and use!
The homeless and drug problem is EVERYWHERE! I live in rural Kansas, and it’s out of control here for Heavens sake! I never thought I would see that in the rural areas, but it’s a real problem everywhere. The main problem is the drugs, and that leads to the homeless situation. Very sad.
It is sad. I hope there is an end or slowing down one day.
I planted a patch of sunflowers in my garden and when they dry out i leave the heads out all over and tons of birds come to feast and as a bonus more seeds end up popping out more sunflowers every year! Definitely has kept the bugs at bay, i highly recommended it

Be patient with your sourdough baking. My first several efforts were like heavy boulders. But after several times it was a dream. I use 100 gm WW and 500 Gm white. And once it sits overnight the crust of the baked bread does soften up. It gets more sourdough tasting as the starter ages. My starter now about 7 years old. Would not bake with anything else. Good luck. Be patient. It will be fine. 😊
I’ve made a few more and mix white and wheat and it’s getting better.

I have 4 adult children and a 14 yr. old.
Preteens, tweens, and teens need a parent at home! I worked outside the home only while my husband was in Kuwait for a year. It was very hard working and my older kids were at home getting themselves ready for school! I missed a lot of days because my kids couldn’t cope with me gone. That was when I started childcare.

Renting is not throwing away money ..its giving me shelter and comfort and a home . Many , many cultures around the world cannot afford to buy ..Of course we all would like to buy something but it can be unattainable !! To gamble , to drink and to use drugs is to throw away money ..though as we all know too many out there are so unwell its a trap to them ...they can't get out .

Hi Kate. Prices are crazy here in the valley too for gas, food, well everything. I use to rent rooms out in my house but now that my dad lives with me, I'm not doing that. With that change I've lost another income, so it's been tough but my food bank has been a blessing. People always tell me I should sell my house and rent something smaller. My mortgage is cheaper than a studio apartment. That's what people don't get. Plus, things are just way more expensive in California too.
I'm so glad you did a roll reversal on the weekends. I think it's important for the people you take care of to understand what a tiring job we do. I wasn't getting full appreciation for everything I do and I basically did the same thing, to a certain extent because my dad is 80. With his age, I know he can't do much but I started having him help me if he wanted certain dishes or didn't like what I was cooking. Asked him to start cooking for his own dog and taking care of all that came along with his dog. Well, he couldn't do it for even a day. Boy, his attitude changed tremendously and he's very appreciative now and likes everything I cook. 😂
See, it helps for someone to walk a mile in our shoes. Then they help or stay quiet about it😊.

I am a prepper because we have gone through two devastating hurricanes. Loss of power for 2 weeks with Hugo and 1 week with Matthew. Also we have each had an unexpected job loss in the past. Our pantry and other supplies literally saved us. You are so right about tweens and teens needing you. Some parents feel like they are old enough to not need that attention but they need it even more. Seen that many times as a former school counselor.

I agree with you on the feeling like something is brewing in the financial world, things are going to get worse before better. Unless the greed stops, and these stores stop price gouging. There is already signs of Target stock going down, etc... more people are not buying because everything is too expensive. Or they are using credit to keep up with the Joneses...

My uncle came from a wealthy family. He inherited millions of dollars - twice - each time, he would quit his job, and they’d buy a huge house, fancy brand new cars for them and all the kids, a sailboat, etc. after they went through all the money, they would be ok food stamps, and we would have to give them money. I never understood it. He could’ve been set for life.
That’s such a sad thing for him and his family.
Hi Kate, I absolutely love this video! I have a couple of questions for you. When you said you’re putting your extra money into savings is it a regular savings account that doesn’t earn interest, or a high yield savings account,or a CD? If people have some debt do they pay that off first or try to do both with saving and paying debt. I would like your thought on these questions! Right now I just save in a saving account. I would save plenty and pay the rest to debt. I would do both so if anything happened we would be ok for a while. I hope that helps😊☕️

Theres a kids book i like called The Money Tree by Sarah Stewart...i wonder if that book is kinda like it. You'd like the kids book ..great pictures simple country gal likes the simple life. A money tree grows...she shares it then peoples greed grows.
