Joe Rogan v Jerry Seinfeld

- If Jerry Seinfeld is the most recognisable comedian in the world and had a show called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and Joe Rogan is the biggest podcaster in the world who platforms comedians on his podcast, why haven’t they been on each other’s shows?

I don’t understand how you can love comedy and hate comedians in cars getting coffee. Listening to comedians just shoot the shit and getting a glimpse into how their brains work is fascinating to me. Way better than some scripted interview on a talk show.
he also thinks rogan is funny on his podcast which he isnt. he isnt a "funny dude"
totally agree! Jerry Seinfeld created Comedians in Cars so that he could hang out with comedians and get the feel for how they get their ideas, and it usually ends up being funny. Also, how could you not see Alec Baldwin as a funny person (also a great dramatic actor). This guy should actually watch the show before he comments...and if he did watch the show(s), he just doesn't get it!
I liked Seinfeld's netflix car show much more than Seinfeld's actual standup act.
The Larry David episode he did the real spit take I watched multiple times...cracked up every time
So if Amy Schumer has a show then you must automatically like it because you like comedy since she's a comedian. What a dumb comment. It's pretty simple: You don't like it if you don't like Jerry Seinfeld.
I like both.
Larry David combined with all the talent on Seinfeld is what made that show great.

Right on. I prefer that setting for Jerry these days. It's far better for witty quips with someone like Norm to bounce off. His other stuff is a bit too generic these days.

Seinfeld is great because he's himself. He doesn't try and be anybody else. Joe's tribe are all trying to be Hicks or Carlin, and they all fall far short (except Bill Burr and Doug Stanhope). Jerry is an all-time great.
Jerry isn't anywhere close to an all-time great. He had one succesful show. His standup is boring. He isn't really funny to most people outside America, who find it all childish and just generally too on-the-nose. What he is, is a locally successful comedian who thinks he's king of the universe. This, of course, is not about Joe Rogan, any old shit would be funnier than Rogan.

This dude just spent 18 minutes to tell the world what everyone already knows, that Joe Rogan isn't famous for his standup.
neither is jerry seinfeld. he was liked by johnny carson and blew up with the tv show. but despite his net worth and his hit show, seinfeld is not even close to being one of the greats. watch the video with louie, chris, ricky, and seinfeld. he literally criticizes them for having new special after new special saying a real comedian has 'the act' honed over years but essentially sticking to the same material, hence his special 'im telling you for the last time.' where he finally retired those bits. think if his show never happened, do you really think seinfeld would have reigned in standup? especially relying on the act cause supposedly this is something that real comedians do.

he's not funny at all. He's annoying. His podcasts used to be good. Now he sounds like a trumpie that makes stuff up, and that has people on that can't challenge him, and if they do, they don't come back and he cuts them.
I've never been a fan of Jerry's stand-up, but I absolutely love Seinfeld. I've never been a huge fan of Rogan's stand-up, but I love his podcast. You don't have to love everything they do. They both are super talented, and some of their stand-up is good, just not my favorite.
You were a fan of Larry David's comedy then, if the show was what you liked. I agree that the show was funny but Jerry's standup is mostly not.
So I will make it even more complicated: don't like the Seinfeld TV show (= Larry David writing), don't like Seinfeld standups, but love him just talking as himself in interviews or Comedians in Cars. Also, love Curb Your Enthusiasm (= Larry David's writing) and Seinfeld's part in it is my favorite. At the same time, I actively avoid Rogan's standup while listening to basically all JRE and finding him really funny there. Seems that in some comedians I like their real personas more than their standups, while in others I like their shows more. Except for Larry David, who is basically always Larry David.

I loved the Seinfeld tv show. I thought his stand up on the show was the least funniest part. I think he's funny, but not hilarious. I love Joe Rogan as a commentator and a podcaster, but not as a stand up comedian.
I’m not even sure you can say he’s a great interviewer. He conducts great interviews because of the level of guest he gets and because he lets them talk and it’s long form. Does he ask really poignant questions? I don’t know. I think the guy from Hot Ones would be a better example of a great interviewer. Joe deserves credit for creating a platform that makes sense and is attractive to a juggernaut viewership.
@@TheRealTurkFebruary
I think there's an element of cause and effect in your comment. Joe does ask good questions, he then allows his guest to answer at length, usually without butting in. He's not looking for TV 'gotcha' moments. He conducts a long form conversation exploring highways and byeways and before you know it 2.5 hours have gone by.
So, I think his approach is low key brilliant because his MO, doesn't draw attention to itself. Some people think he's a musclehead, but he does his research and he's smart.
I think in the case of Adam Ruins Everything he had prepared a few mantraps because the guy was/is a serious junkwaffle, saying most sport was designed for men's bodies and speculating that sport would be better if all the rules were adjusted somehow to make them mixed sex games. Clearly a foolish person and Joe was way too smart for this guy.

Regardless of what you think of the 'Brogansphere', take a wild guess as to why Seinfeld doesn't want anything to do with him
Wtf his stand up is some of the greatest. In addition to having interesting content, he has perfect timing, execution, and pitch.
You have to remember that Seinfeld stayed away from swear words, relationship jokes, racial jokes...he avoided what 99% of comics covered. Also Seinfeld is NOT overrated, some of it is still tight to this day. Some espisodes/moments are incredible...Kramer doing his talk show. George talking about the whale/golf ball. The librarian talking down to Seinfeld. The chinese restaurant. There are so many...and yes theres always these people who will say "Thats all Larry David" but in reality its a (a) a staff of writers, and (b) Seinfeld and David started it all.
As a kid Joe Rogan was that a friend's house and couldn't believe the parents were so upset at him swearing. It seemed preposterous to him to make A few words so taboo," Like how are we supposed to get anything done here, You really want me curating the Wording of every Thought before it leaves my Mouth so your Adult ears and sensibilities arent offended by Words that YOU can say, other ADULTS can say, but if I say them , its a PROBLEM? Fck THAT. That's ridiculous.
Seinfeld, conversely has a deep understanding of how swearing can affect things. He'd agree that "Profanity is the linguistic crutch of the vulgar and inarticulate". Clearly, this is just one example of MANY ways they have profoundly different ways of seeing the world - and may as well be from different planets.

I've also never thought Rogan was funny, but he's a hard worker and a determined guy. No doubt he learned that in MMA. I think he just kept working on his act until he had something that got him in the door, and that's where he started meeting people and getting TV gigs like News Radio. Then he used his background in MMA to land announcer gigs. Then he used his background in TV, comedy, and MMA to land great interviews as a podcaster. Rogan's success is due to knowing how to set goals and work hard to accomplish them rather than any particular talent. Forget about Tony Robbins. If you want to learn about success, listen to Joe Rogan.
The main flaw with this whole channel is that it presumes the core value of JRE is as a comedy vehicle, but in all reality, that's only a small subsection of Rogan's audience.

Man, great video. Your take is very spot on.
Interesting video. Seinfeld always seemed like he was more influenced by old school 'Borscht Belt' style comics. As though his main stylistic influences were not only of a different era, but from a different social/geographic strata too ,(though I'm not sure I could fully articulate what that means). Also of note is the rock and roller v.s lounge singer/supper club piano jazz type differentiation. One being a comic who might get high or have a cocktail before going on v.s. someone who probably would be less likely to do that. Not judging and saying either is better than the other, only that stylistically they participate in very different types of story telling and occupy different quadrants of comedic space. Joe Rogan is more often dependent on a sort of 'collar grab' hyper kinetic energy and adrenalin push in his stories/bits, usually building to some crescendo (with an implied cymbal crash for emphasis at the end) . Where Jerry Seinfeld has a more laid back ironic bent, wanting to point out ,in a tour guide sort of deadpan ,life's perceived absurdities. With very rote/studied vocal modulations and emphasis inflections. Both can be funny, though usually very different kinds of funny.

I think people don't really appreciate how funny Seinfeld was at his peak on stage. Comedy changes with time. Now his stuff doesn't seem as bright to some people maybe after years of imitation. But I remember how burst out loud funny his stuff was when it was first airing. Same with the show. People now trying to call it overrated, are doing so from the vantage point of youtube commentary. The show radically changed the TV landscape and, at least in my opinion, was one of the best written and performed television series of all time (it certainly punched through the pablum we had been getting in the years leading up to it)
And you have Larry David to thank for that. All the funny parts of the show are either the wacky side characters or Larry David's writing. Jerry is an unfunny person who knew the right people and took advantage of great opportunities.
@@ShowerOnceYearly Larry David is a genius, and don't take that away from him at all. But I think them working together, even though Larry was doing the writing, was still crucial for that show being what it was. Jerry wasn't a great performer. That much is true. They tailored the writing to his lack of comedic acting ability. And there is no question they surrounded him with talented performers and that the show benefited from tons of talented writers as well. But his standup was very funny. I was a fan of his before the show and remember how impactful those routines were when they aired. That said, Larry Davis is a comedic master, but that doesn't diminish Jerry Seinfeld's comedy. This whole thing where people are suddenly recasting Jerry as an unfunny comedian, frankly sounds like when people call the Beatles over-rated. It ignores context, the contribution they made to the evolution of music, the impact, and it is just something people say that doesn't really have any weight beyond it being their own personal opinion. I get that some people don't find it funny. That is fair. I think it is a pretty weak argument though to dismiss him the way people are doing (which I think has more to do with them either just being contrarian or, more likely, just not liking him personally)
@@Bedrockbrendan that's fair. I think it's partly because he's so arrogant and shitty about his success as if a large part of it wasn't luck and working with extremely talented and funny people to build up his career.

There's a 3rd important figure this video forgets in this story, which is Norm MacDonald. Before Norm died, Joe had tried to get Norm on his podcast OVER and OVER again. Keep in mind, Norm and Jerry loved each other. Jerry had Norm on his coffee show, and Norm had Jerry on his show as well. Norm knew Joe had become the biggest media outlet on earth for comics. But he always thought Joe's rat-pack of "Death Squad" comedians was total cringe, and it didn't help matters when Joe's close friend Tony Hinchcliffe was caught ripping off a Norm joke. So in reality, there's two comedy legends- Jerry and Norm - that always treated Joe for what he is; a mediocre comedian that happened to become a big podcast host, but then made the mistake of thinking that meant he was an expert in comedy, when he's really just an expert in podcasting. And unlike Jerry who is still alive, Norm is gone. So Joe will never be able to make Norm kiss his ring. And of course, Norm didn't need to, because anyone with an ounce of taste knows that Norm ran mental circles around Joe's comedy, and certainly didn't need Joe's publicity to be well regarded.

Seinfeld was the best comedy show on TV ever.
comedians in cars getting coffee WAS AWESOME LOVED IT
I think Joe knows he's not a great comedian. But he loves it and sticks with it because of his love for it. He doesn't have to do it. He's done a LOT for comedy. He's one of the key players in making stand up popular again after COVID.
That's a good point. I don't know if Rogan is "great", but, imo, he's pretty funny. So is Seinfeld, but when I saw Seinfeld live, it was the same stand up material I'd seen years before. Nothing new, which was disappointing.
Seinfeld Is overrated. he's not even that funny "what's up with these airline peanuts" . Larry David is the reason why The show was funny and successful. Jerry Seinfeld is literally the most boring character on the show Kramer's the funny one George is funny Is Elaine It is even kind of funny Jerry's just there being mediocre
@@cade377 Really? I saw his show in NYC a few months ago and it was all new material and it killed.
He did a show years ago called I'm Telling You For The Last Time that was all old material (and was disappointing). I think that's where he got the rep for recycling.
Totally! I don't care for his comedy act, but as far as what he's done for comedy, it has to be more than any of the other guys at the top.
so brave. @@jkephart4624
Bro the Coffee and Cars episode with Eddie murphy was fucking hilarious. Eddie's impression of MJ had me rolling.
One of the most accurate takes I’ve ever heard on anything 👏🏼
I love Rogan because despite being bullied about his comedy constantly. He never uses his platform to try to hurt someone in the industry. I could not even imagine the amount of chaos in the comedy scene if he used the JRE army to attack people. It's not like his piers don't try to take low key shots at him all the time but, it's just water off a ducks back for him. I really respect that trait whether he's funny or not. Which I think he is. Even when he shouldn't be funny I think he's funny.
For instance the stool humping thing isn't funny. Until you realize this absolute lunatic has being trying to get stool humping to be funny for like 30+ years. Like Joe why are you so dedicated to this premise? He did it though after 30 years of failed attempts. I got a chuckle out of his Bruce Jenner Demon bit. Then I started dying when I realized that was the result of 30+ years of dedication. What an absolute Icon lol.
Comparing Seinfield to Rogan is like comparing caviar to cat shit.
I hate Caviar. I can't speak to cat shit. I'll take Bill Burr over both of them as stand up's.
Seinfield is just...objectively more successful and Rogan is not funny IMO. He tries to be Sam Kinison but...fails.
@@scourge8097 Bill Burr and Seinfield both great examples of comedians who know their craft.
To be fair, neither have acts that generate buzz on CZcams. I haven’t seen rogans act in a while, but he was solid comic when he was coming up. I like Joe for his podcast. I think Seinfeld is over rated as a comic, his show was great-especially when it focused on George, Elaine or Kramer. But that “did you ever notice…” style of observational humor was old 30 years ago. I caught his new interview show, not my thing.
Lets not exagerate. Jerry isnt that funny either. Hes just an ubnoxious entitled prick
fr 💯😭😂😂😂
I've watched a million comedians and there are many mature career guys and gals who are truly funny. Knowing Rogan was so famous I actually *tried* hard to laugh at his bits-any single one of them - for a long time. It felt like I had funny-bone ED
Yes, Rogan is a podcast Michael Jordan and baseball is his stand up comedy.
Let's be honest, Rogan got big not because of comedy, but because he was a UFC commentator, the UFC got big, and Rogan was pushing JRE. Notice Rogan's rise coincides 100% with the UFC getting more and more popular.
But Seinfeld isn't really that funny either. His observational schtick sucks, just like Bill Hicks or Dennis Leary. It's just not funny
Joe's rollin in that Fear Factor cash.... 🤣🙄
@@davidtalany2153 Seinfeld is a comedy genius.
Why can’t I like both for different reasons? Two different types of humor. One is for water cooler talk and the other is for the boys on Friday or Saturday morning at 05:00 in a duck blind.
Joe Rogan did great when facing hecklers... That's the sign of a good comedian
I agree. Rogan has never made me even chuckle with stand up. His podcast he is great though.
Same as Theo Von. His stand up is strained
Joe doesn’t and hasn’t done tv talk shows in 20 years. He only does podcasts. Look back at his history . He stopped doing movies too. He stated ages ago he was done with all of them and has kept his word. Do a little research. No SNL, No Late Night ,No Late Show!
My man do you have other channels? Ur voice sounds super familiar! Love ur channel
i just think it boils down to them not being close and much in each others circles, and both are busy doing their own thing.
i can't imagine joe sitting in a car with jerry doing the coffee thing
It's virtually impossible to squeeze a laugh out of Rogan's stand-up. It's one of life's great mysteries how he got a Netflix special!
I agree, he wouldn't have gone anywhere just trying to make it by being funny. He's a shit comedian
I feel the same way about Seinfeld. Watched most of his show back in the day and never laughed. Not that I didn't get the lame jokes, it just never struck me as funny
BeCAuSE hEs a MUrdErEr!!!
The same reason Shaub got a Showtime special, Rogan has a large built in audience/fan base, so irrespective of how bad his comedy routine is, it is guaranteed to bring in eyeballs/new subs
I had no idea he was a comedian, I thought he was an actor from 'News Radio' who lost his hair so he started hosting Fear Factor. Then got into MMA and podcasting. That being said, if you can’t write clean comedy, you can’t write comedy.
I think maybe the fact Seinfeld isn't on the Internet has a lot to do with it.
Really if you think about it, Rogan's comedy fame only really lives on the Internet through Netflix and JRE etc. If you don't have social media and don't listen to podcasts the only time you'll ever see Joe is through UFC and old fear factor episodes. You would have no idea that he also does comedy.
Oh and his comedy is terrible 😅
Outstanding video!
Jerry is 90% delivery and 10% material. It's amazing how far you can get by being confident.
It’s the writers, they have to write jokes for you, if they like you or trust you to deliver all the better
hes a dick but lets admit hes good at writing a joke at least dont go too far
no i think he achieved a very high Relatability rating. maybe the highest in recent memory. He has a knack (plus Larry David i suppose) for highlighting every day situations, impulses, responses, etc in a way that is relatable in a lighthearted way and it just works. I saw him live and he had me cracking up talking about when youre done with your soda in the movies you just drop it on the floor because youre finished up with it. point is he can turn really simple premise into something that somehow gets a laugh because you relate and he catches you off guard with the simplicity of it
@milesstover3724 How was what you wrote about what he said funny?
Wow. .
I'm so glad someone else feels the same way about Joe's stand up
Most do
Joe's stand up is not good. Podcast is legendary
@@DM-qd7gw Agree. A smile here and there from me but definitely not side-splitting laughter.
"Hey person I don't know, you also not liking the thing that I don't like that serves no other purpose than to make people laugh evokes feelings of pleasure for me."
Shared disapproval of something harmless making you "so glad" leads me to believe you're no older than 25.
@@MisticStyles Joe Rogan is not funny.
Two of the most famous and successful unfunny comedians of all time.
So fame is no messure for quality .. did nt we establish that with mc donalds ?
subjective
Kevin Hart and Bill Maher, too.
@@clarkkent3730 so very true
Do any comedians actually make you laugh out loud at this point ? Most topics / angles have been covered. I've been watching stand up for almost 30 years. It's just hard to "shock" people with a new good bit at this point
Brendan Shaub talking about comedy is like Brendan Shaub talking about cage fighting.
Comedians in Cars was fantastic for people who love cars and comedians. Jerry is the goat
The actual origin of comedy in Seinfeld is not Jerry Seinfeld, it is Larry David!
I recognize humour is subjective, but Joe Rogan is the ONLY comic routine I've every walked out on. He's got a great podcast with a lot of challenging guests but his stand-up is for Ed Hardy-shirted bros.
They're both great entertainers in their own right.
The real joke is this video.....and riding the coat tails of these guys lol.
Calling something creative overrated is just a way of saying you don’t like it and don’t like the fact that so many other people do.
I wouldn't know who either of these guys were without their *non-standup* work.
This! And that’s strange isn’t it? Like they are considered stand up comics but their most notable work is from tv shows lol…I think that says a lot about just how funny (or not) they may be.
@@EverydayWithBobby No, it says alot about how little you know about the history of comedy. Seinfeld was becoming one of the greatest standups ever before he got his show. He was on Carson like a dozen times, did countless main stages at the major festivals, tv specials, etc.
"You probably know her son Pauly Shore from Encino Man." Dude no one has watched that movie in 25 years. I had to Google it, read the description and remembered i may have seen it in 4th grade.

Hahaha I have fond memories of this movie.
the first 3 minutes of this video is like when you need to pad your intro paragraph to fill the word count on your essay
The Norm episode on Cars with Comedians is one I watch every now and then. But then again, anything Norm does is awesome.
Norm is the greatest
Wait....Andrew Schultz...ANDREW SCHULTZ is calling someone else overrated???... 😂😂😂
Comedians in Cars wasn't cringy, it just was that great of a concept, in my opinion. I guess if your podcast has "cringe" in the title you'll be more likely to use the word a lot.
I started watching comedians in cars again lately and there's some great episodes. Burr, Larry David, Chappelle. All great eps
JRE is the NFL Draft. Comedians in Cars getting Coffee is the Hall of Fame.
This is a pretty spot on comparison.
This doesn't make any sense at all. Joe has a podcast where he has conversations about a multitude of different topics geared more toward anything else to learn and educate. Yes, there are moments of slapstick and just nonsense, but the most part he's trying to push real conversation to expand knowledge and understanding. Jerry show is a very different experience and I agree is very good, but also very different. There is no comparison because they're apples and oranges
@@imagugetusucka8270 I'm speaking more about the guests themselves. Joe will have all kinds of different comedians on, including up-and-coming or lesser-known comedians. Where is Jerry show is a who's-who of comedic giants. Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Louis c.k., Steve Martin, Martin Short, John Mulaney. Joe will have on more comedians that will be great now and in the future. Jerry deals with comedians who's resume speak for themselves. Peyton Manning had to be drafted, but he's in the Hall of Fame.
And 100
Times more people watch and care about the draft then the hall of fame induction! Mic drop!
Both Rogan and Seinfeld live cars.
Both are Porsche guys.
I think one day they will have the meet.
Seinfeld the show will always be a top 5 shows, he’s incredibly talented and knew to call it quits, I honestly respect it
Berry is saying no to the comedy store, and Rogan inherited the beef
Jerry isn't a billionaire for his stand up comedy, hes a billionaire for a show in which his friend characters are funnier than he is
Probably because Jerry wrote the characters to be funny, but he himself is not a trained actor
you mean larry david @@petermozuraitis5219
@@petermozuraitis5219Larry David was what made Seinfeld work. Look at the last two seasons without Larry David to see how much the quality dipped.
@@petermozuraitis5219 I don't know all the ends and outs but I know Jerry wrote his own character as a self insert and Larry David wrote George as his self insert character. Imo George is far and away the more iconic character. That's why curb is just a better and uncensored version of Seinfeld. Not acting like Jerry did nothing, but most of the main and recurring characters seem like they were written by Larry
