Sherwood forest wild camping... feeling better about vanlife UK and stealth camping in our van.
So this week we head up to Nottingham to have an upgrade done to our self built DIY campervan conversion, so, we thought why not make a trip of it and see if we could stealth camp at Sherwood forest.
After spending a few weeks getting a little down that we wont be able to travel around Europe in our tiny home on wheels just yet, it was refreshing to actually spend some time happily wild camping here in the UK.
We found a couple of great little free park ups for the van, as well as finding some fantastic walks.
It wasn't all about stealth camping though, as we did spend one night on a lovely little certificated site (camping and caravanning club) right on top of Grafham water! An enjoyable ten minute walk took us right to the edge of the reservoir and as always, of course Emily has filmed a 2 minute tour, with a site as small as this one can she get it in under 2 minutes??
As always, thank you so much for coming along on this little van life adventure with us, we hope you can join us for some upcoming trips in our self converted campervan, thanks for watching!
Follow us on our journey as we, two female travelers, attempt to create a proper CZcams travel series as we drive across Europe (we're trying!) in our DIY camper that we built ourselves!
Hit the subscribe button to see where our little tiny home on wheels takes us next and how we cope living in a van!

We found your channel via David John’s’ recommendation and we’re binge watching from the beginning. We love your Fun Facts and 2 Minute Tours and the wildlife photography is brilliant. Great job!
Fun fact…Sherwood Forest is in Nottinghamshire. Nottingham City is about half hour away…..I’m from that area and we used to play in the forest as kids, even in the Major Oak before it was fenced off. Love watching you…❤
Edwinstowe is where you had your bun. There is normally a little fair there too.
Love the fun facts! Never stop them.
💧 Water droplets were calming and comical.
Yes, Em, they were a lot of really cool Fun Facts.
Emily's facts are brilliant! Leave her alone Lou 🤣
Yeah that's right 🤣😆
@@campervibe Everyone pics on Emily ... no clue why :) x.
It's lovely to see a place I went to about 60 years ago as a child. I remember it like it was yesterday, Thank you.
❤ I had a similar experience many years ago there's a road 3 us into Canada and back into the US that takes you to a glacier. I could tell by the map that I was not going to like that road so I chickened out😂😂😂 a couple of months ago one of the van life people up in Canada videotape and droned up that road to the glacier❤ I'm glad to say that I'm glad I didn't go up the road😂😂😂 and I probably won't even if I visit the area again because I bought a big old giant Sprinter high top 4 by 4 170😂😂😂
Personally, I love the fun facts and look forward to hearing them! Plus, that old oak tree was just amazing!!
You've done a great job with AJ, he's looking great, moving nicely.
Thank you, he is definitely getting there
Been living in my Sherwood Forest since the ‘70s. This redwood forest in my name is 37 acres & is in Mendocino co, calif.. So fortunate.. how wonderful you two got to traipse around in a Sherwood Forest that is so incredibly old.. ☮️🥰💟🌲
❤ I've only been in your neck of the woods once but I'll be back sooner rather than later😂 I'm building out of camper van I'm going to hit the road one day. My piece of paradise is in the High Mountain Desert of Montana next to the selway-bitterroot wilderness❤ I appreciate it and I'm blessed with it everyday❤ so what do you think about these two aren't they a kick in the pants😂 I only found their Channel a couple of months ago and sometimes I just put them on the background😂😂😂
If your ever back in Nottinghamshire, southwell is a great small town, for a visit. Plenty of cafes, shops and pubs to keep you entertained. Plus southwell minster is amazing.
👍Fun facts are great, thank you Emily.🎉
Emily is never boring!
Best fun facts ever even a year later !!! We love you two!!😊
Doesn't look much like Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest in the early 60s. Guessing 'Developers improved' the place. Richard Green, Archie Duncan, Bernadette O'Farrell, Alan Wheatley. Good British Actors [Grampa Greg]. The oak didn't have a path around it in the 60s. Had a mate called 'Nerf' who came from Sherwood [or a town near there]. Told us all about it. He said, he was a decendent of Archie Duncan's character 'Little John'. Your facts are always good Emily. Spot History is Mazin Grace! Nice to AJ walkin not hoppin. If you get towards the west coast, Melody and Sarinda might shout you a cuppa. Nice run Emily, your getting a little faster. Other channel Louise? Thanks m8s, enjoyed that.
Wow! That's a 🇺🇸 serving-size desert!!
enjoyed, the more footage of AJ, he is amazing.
Lovely video of a part of the country I used to know well. I would take one issue with you though, you said that the island is crowded but it's really not.
The urban landscape accounts for 10.6% of England, 1.9% of Scotland, 3.6% of Northern Ireland and 4.1% of Wales. Put another way, that means almost 93% of the UK is not urban - there is still plenty of space for people we need to support our economy and people who need protection from a less tolerant world. I wonder if living in the south of England (which is admittedly more crowded than other parts of the UK) gives a skewed impression. I can't wait to see how your opinion on these islands we live on changes as you drive around more of it. :) Thanks as ever for a lovely, fun vlog. :)
Here’s another fun fact for you - 20 years ago I was with a medieval group that came to Sherwood regularly to portray the legend of Robin Hood - we camped opposite the Major Oak. Well, re-enactors being what they are, and us also having carte blanche to scramble around inside the fence around the Major Oak, one night we thought we’d see how many people you could get INSIDE the Major Oak.
Answer - 16 adults and one kid…. 👌🏻😁
Oh bloody hell, that is a really good fun fact 😁😁
It was an extreme game of sardines 🤣🤣
Back in the day, Fanny would have been made of wood with wooden wheels and be pulled by a couple of mares..... Similarities to today then 😏😂
19:59 Did they know Lou was going to be visiting....? '😋
I annoyed myself with how many times I said that 🤣🤦♀️
Here's another fun fact for you Em . I'm a Nottingham lad and as kids we used to go to Sherwood forest . At that time ithe Major Oak was difficult to find and wasn't the tourist attraction it is today . We used to play Robin Hood and his merry men in and around the tree and one time we had a fire actually in the tree . I think they put that fence up to keep little bates like me at bay . Also some super little towns around there including Worksop , Retford and Southwell as well as Edwinstowe . Great vlog guys many thanks .
That is amazing Ken, I bet it was so different when you was there playing in the woods, pretty cool 😎
When you think about trees and how much of them we have lost its actually quite sad.
When King Henry the VIII was on the throne a squirrel could get from London to Edinburgh without touching the ground.
Hi Lou, I realised Emily missed the most important ''Fact'', When ''Robin'' was running around Sherwood, Emily would have been known as ''Tall Emily'' as all the folks at that time were so small in stature. . . Love your video's, you have to do the Scottish west coast islands, the wild life is fantastic, they even have sea gulls that fly backwards. 🤔😊😊😊
Now that would have been amazing, I'm hardly ever the tall one 🤣
Great vlog 👍 Lou be positive about a UK tour, we too are desparate to do the Shengen shuffle (thanks Boris 🙈🤡) but decided its just not worth the risk. Last night we (Edgie & Binny) returned home from our wild camping test around the coast of the UK. We drove from our home in Cornwall to Boston Lincs , then hugged the east coast to Edinburgh. We then drove up to Perth, then across to the west coast through the Trossachs. We then followed the west coast all the way to cardigan bay in Wales. Away 25 nights. Did not stay on 1 single campsite. Did not hook up the electrics. Used aire facilities all the way around for waste etc. Fresh water from aire facilities and hand car wash. Met many fascinating people (@ 2m distance) Picked up and binned lots of litter. Collected lots of sea glass for Binnys jewellery hobby (asmanibeads.co.uk) To sum up, the UK is a truly lovely place, park ups are everywhere if you look. The UK should be a motorhome/campervan road trip destination 👍
That sounds amazing and I need to go check out the jewellery as well, I think its great when people make things out of that type of stuff. So true though, there are a lot of wonderful places to see and visit in the UK 😁
That's some Grandmother TREE!
I know right
I recon the camper upgrade is either an engine swap to a v8 supercharged R34 engine.. Or your getting a towbar with a hot tub in the trailer.. 😂🤣
Loved the history lesson and the sulk.. I know how you feel x
Thanks kieran 😁 love the hot tub idea too, if Lou reads this I'm sure it will probably happen lol!!
@@campervibe do it... Go on...
Emily saying she wasn't going to eat all the cheesecake that day, made me laugh. Anyone who watches this channel regularly knows that cheesecake never stood a chance!😂🤣😁
🤣🤣🤣 I actually saved half for the next day, we are apparently on diets 🤣🤦♀️
@@campervibe Must have been the "hay fever".🤣

The fun facts were fantastic 👍. AJ is looking so well and the sunshine makes you ladies look radiant 🌞🙂 the forest looked amazing 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳 ohh and the videography was exceptional 👍👍👍.
It was a lovely forest for sure and thank you its been great getting back out for a bit
Going by ( especially ) your last few videos, I strongly suspect the highlight of Summer will be you two. Just sayin.
Aww thank you 😊
I can’t actually believe it! A 2 minute tour under 2 minutes 😳😳 ..when are the mugs coming out …we need one of each😊..loved that song at the end btw
I know right, not done it since though 😂🙈 hmmm maybe later in the year 😁
Loved Emily's history fun facts!❤👍👍 good one, thank you
can't say much more than.... "keep it up".... seriously happy with your content and Emily's happy face and fun facts!!! Seriously women.. you have all the talent to keep us coming back.. thank you for a great tour of England and natural entertainment... content is wonderful... a very happy Canadian here... cheers!!
Aww thanks Kathy, hope all is still good over there 😊
Hello from South Australia. We are in the same position. Travelling around our own country. We have arrived home last night after a 2,548 km trip fail. Were heading to Queensland via Northern Territory (I know the long way). Border closures forced us to mak a decision. Turned arount at our border before entering Northern Territory, if we croossed and then decided to return we would have to do 14 days quarantine. Bush camp for the duration of the trip, so much fun. The Outback is beautiful. Love watching your travels.
Wow, sounds like a pretty good adventure though, Australia looks absolutely amazing 😀😁
Emily.. No1 history teacher 2021 🤣❤
Winning in life 😁😆
Beautiful! I love all the history and fun facts too. What an amazing tree. Is this the forest where Robin Hood and his merry men hung out ? 😀🌳💜
I certainly hope so 🙂🙂
Great to see you out and about with AJ. I think it will be Lithium Batteries from Rob at Oaktree. We must make time to get ours changed over 😀🐾🐾 x
Thanks so much Richard 😁😉😁
Ladies, if you are ever in Notts and need a room for free (really good garage at the end of my street too.....New Lane Motors for service or repairs)......then you are most welcome. (I live 100 yards away from one of the best country parks out there too!)
I'm a fellow vanner with a blithering idiot, friendly husky. Love your channel, it rocks!!!
Thanks very much, for your entertainment and time. Very appreciated! Warmest Regards to you both,
Looks lovely loved the fun facts 🤣 mark always storms off ahead 😂 xxx
At 7m 15secs by the major oak sign, theres a woodpecker to the left, on the tree in the background :)
Do love a woodpecker ❤
Hi girls hopefully Fanny is getting Remix blinds. 🤞
History isn't boring! Good fun facts! :D
I know right 😊😁
I like the way your drops of water makes a dripping noise before they hit what they're falling into. 24:18 ;)
Falling into a sound effect 😂😂
Whoo hoo, you won the price, you get to watch watch next 5 for free 😁😁😁😁
PS sooooo happy to see AJ so happy!! 😍🥰 Where's kitty?
He so was to be out and about, she stayed with Joanie as we were getting the upgrades and had to be out the van for some time so thought best not to take her so soon
A vast amount of oak trees were used to build Henry the 8ths navy.
Mental right
Best fun facts ever Emily!
One for future reference on our over populated island...if everybody in England spread out to the max, they would only be 150 feet from each other...
Oh wow!! Good to know, thanks Leonard 😁👍
Em, love the facts, history is cool. Lou, loved the footage, excellent as always. The UK really rocks. So here’s a fact😂when a dog drinks water they roll their tongue backwards so it forms a kind of spoon. They scoop the water up backwards. It can be filmed Lou and slowed down fascinating to watch. The bowls that collapse down are fantastic to take out on a walk as the dogs are not swallowing air when they drink. Hope you find time to visit Cheshire, like every county in the UK got so much going for it. See you next week then
I know there is definitely a lot to see here isn't there. Oh yeah I love seeing footage of when a dog drinks its very cool, yeah we had one of them bowls but found due to it not being able to dry in enough time despite cleaning it when back at the van it went all mouldy so got the bottle instead 👍🙂
@@campervibe good idea
Just a slight correction, Sherwood Forest isn't "The North" it's "The Midlands"!
It's totally North for us 🤣😆🤦♀️
I was thinking that hahahaha xx
Dont fret if you cant make it abroad until next year even. You've got all the time in the world and your current videos are ace, I teresting and beautiful as well as funny. So take the pressure off. Things with the virus are far from over and restrictions could change at any time. So chill and keep working hard to make these excellent videos 🛶🚁🚐🦮🐈
Thank you, yes next year is now looking more likely the way the numbers are going right now. Fingers crossed it doesn't get too bad 🤞🤞
I am glad you two are back , I love watching you both so funny . Hope you enjoyed being out and out in fanny ha ha
Hey Dave, thanks, its good to be vlogging again 😀

Looking forward to seeing you at the get together this weekend. If you come up to the Lakes Lou, feel free to give me a shout. I am currently based up here full time in my van so can let you know about some cool park ups and an awesome wild grey seal colony.
Cheers Sharon, see you at the get together 😀
Im glad you have decided to adventure in your own backyard (UK) My van is named DOOBY which stands for Discover Our Own Back Yard. You nailed the 2min tour Emily. Also I have been to UK and seen the Oak Tree in Nottingham when I stayed with friends. Its an amazing place.

Oh totally right, he and Summer are our babies
I like the history "fun facts". Keep them coming
Thanks Sid, we will
I reckon a hot tub with a built in music centre and flashy lights. Well that's my dream lol.
I never thought about Nottingham and often drive straight past it.
The forest looks nice but we have the New Forest down my way where King William Rufus was shot in the eye by an arrow !
Allegedly 😉
Great vid again girls x
😂🤣 Hot tub would be Awsome!!
We love the new forest too, was there very recently actually and visit a lit, it's only about 2 and a half hours from us 😁😁 thanks for watching 😁👍
Love the fun facts! More more more! There’s soooooooo much history in Nottingham and Sherwood Forest. Can’t wait for this grand tour of the UK. Cheers from Canader eh!

History, fun facts, AJ, picnic tables, bins and cheesecake, which you have to eat it all in case it goes off🤩🤩. I had my second COVID Injection yesterday crook again today. The dreaded COVID has sprung up here again, all from returning overseas travellers and aircrew, some places in lockdown and masks for us for the next 2 weeks. As usual always you ladies are so entertaining thanks for sharing stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Oh wow hope it sorts its self out quickly, you guys over there seem to get it under control really well 🙏🤞 nice one for the 2nd jab 😁
There used to be a junction on the nortbound M1 near Nottingham with a brown sign that pointed to 'Sherwood Forest'. There were about six trees behind the sign and my beloved who hadn't been that way before said "Small isn't it" 🤪🤪
That is totally something I (Em) would say 😆🤦♀️
I have sat in the middle of the major oak well before they fenced it all off in the early 60 oh boy that makes me very old 😀
Oh wow, that is pretty amazing
History lesson - Tick ....I love it....and wow that awesome oak tree... i cud live in it......like the magic far away tree....Enid Blyton when i was a kid ...'great' fun facts....:) *
Thanks so much cheza 😁😁 loved the Enid Blyton books when I was a kid 😄😄
Bad ass tyres I recon xx
Come to the Lakes, but wait till after the school holidays as its crazy busy at the moment. Good to see AJ back in action .
Definitely waiting till after then, yeah he is doing well 😀
Videos get better every time!!!
Thanks
The fun facts were great! I love all the little tidbits of information ℹ️
🥳🥳 love my fun fact section 😁
Sherwood Forest…. Edwinstowe…. Nottinghamshire👍
Fantastic fun facts this week 😁. Unfortunately I spotted quite a dramatic flaw in this weeks instalment which I feel I must bring to your attention. It occurs 11 minutes and 42 seconds in and I feel there is a major omission. In future when attempting to send smoke signals I strongly recommend involving a fire and not just a rug.
Best wishes
Rich
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I will remember that for next time 😆😁
Another great video guys. Your photography and editing just gets better and better.
Cheers Mark
Is Sherwood Forest all original vegetation (or remnants of)? I will look up that fun fact.
Enjoyed that visit so, so much, thank you!!
Great video guys great to see Aj relaxing and looking good xxx
He is loving being back in the van and back on mini adventures 🙂🐕
Love the fun facts.

Lovely forest! Awesome fun Facts. Old English history channel🤣 Emily doesn’t share😂 nice video!

Loved the video. Great Robin Hood music. Literally love watching you guys
Thanks Anna 😁
You missed a fact Emily. When you was in Edwinstowe you could have been to the church. It’s said that it was there that Robin Hood married Maid Marion. I’m a Nottingham lad and yes we are very friendly up here. ❤️
Oh no way, I walked round there as well but they were doing some works so left there, darn it 🤦♀️ you lot really are 😁

Totally agree, I loved it there, welcome 😀
History isn’t boring Em and it was really interesting 🧐 … but your face, whilst you were giving the “fun facts” 😂❤️ you looked very pleased and proud! 😁 lovely😊 Music was good too! As you say, stunning stuff in the uk, no doubt about it. Looking forward to more vlogs. Cheesecakes! 😮 Did you get to eat yours Lou?? 🤔🤔
This is what I think also, I love learning a few things about the places we visit and I really was pleased with myself 🤣 yeah she did, I don't like lemon meringue 😆
Lovely video. Great to see the travel vlogs back. Just one correction, if I may, regarding the opening title of the vlog? Nottingham (Sherwood Forest) is NOT 'The North'!😊
🤣😆 it totally is to us 🤣🤦♀️
Nothing gets the week off to a good start like a Camper Vibe video! Brilliant as always, loved Emily's fun facts and all the stunning filming. Intrigued about the upgrade - helicopter blades for the roof? Inflatable ring around the base that turns the whole van into Thunder Clunge 1 (from which Thunderclunge 4 can be launched)? Huge snack cupboard extension? I give up...
Oh wow so many ideas and such great ones as well, our upgrade is crap compared to these 😆😆
The fun facts have been great. 😊
Glad you liked them 😁
Cudmore grove on Mersey island in Essex is worth a look. I was watching sand martins feeding there young. A loverly place with a few parkups closish by.
Thanks for the tip Richard 👍
Another great vid ladies! When you visited Grafham water, you could have also visited Little Paxton nature reserve with a free park up!! Part of the Ouse Valley way runs through the nature reserve. Maybe save for next time!!
That sounds great, yeah definitely save it for next time 😀
Loved the fun facts 🎉 thank you
More fun facts please, we enjoyed this one. Nice job xx
Thanks so much 😁👍
Emily history is amazing I love it and your facts were awesome 👌
Thanks Will 🙂
I think the content is well balanced, a bit of everything, don't always need to be funny the whole time I think everyone enjoys all the different aspects. my favourite is the cinematography and nature shots.
You are in our neck of the woods we in Norfolk. I'm from Gillingham and The Dartford Tunnel/QE2 Bridge can be a nightmare! Best done later evening or early morning! Very interesting info about Sherwood Forest!
