Love my old mechanics stethoscope. One of my favorite tools on the truck. Co-workers make weird faces when you break that out.

Every mechanic i've ever seen swears by the stethoscope.
You can even put a screwdriver to your ear to do the same thing.

Not a plumber but great clear video. I'm here because I just found a leak after searching youtube for tips. I was locking up the house late one night and could hear a hissing sound coming through the kitchen taps. I checked all the usual, garden taps, toilet cistern etc and then checked the water meter and roughly calculated it was losing about a litre per minute. Next morning I went round with a screwdriver to my ear on all the accessible pipework, the noisiest spot was thankfully outside towards the water meter, but background noise from neighbours pool pumps etc prevented precise location. I dug several holes in the garden, on the 4th hole the soil was wet, and I found the pinhole.

Where I live the houses and buildings are made of concrete slabs and walls of cinder block filled with mortar, water pipes are embedded therefore water leaks make no noise even at high pressures.

None of these plumber videos tell you how long to watch the water pressure with a gauge and should the pressure drop (if any at all) in that time period. For example, should the pressure be rock solid in that 15 minutes and not move at all, or is a drop of 2 psi or so acceptable in that 15 minute period?

I am in PA, the meters are inside the house here and the city shut off is near the curb line. We do water line repairs outside, the water lines are usually about 4 to 5 feet deep and between 30 to 80 feet long. The material of pipe can be copper, CTS, Poly, or Galvanized. Will this equipment and training be useful for us here in PA?

    Hey Expert Plumber,
I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions for me about going about getting my license.
I am currently a new building inspector for the city of Pearland Texas and I now I have to get my license to inspect other plumbers.
I understand about having so and so hours of education / field experience.
The only thing that is worrying me is
How do I get my license as I have a felony conviction on my record ?
I’m not understanding if I should I apply now even though I’m not taking the exam anytime soon or should I wait until I take it ?
My conviction is more than 10 years old and it happened as I was in my teens. It was robbery charge that and it’s my only mistake since then.
If you could please help me out with this I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you

A felony record seems to be practically a job requirement for plumbers in Oklahoma. Kidding.. not kidding.. I've had a lot of plumbers work for me that have felonies, but we do commercial new construction. I am sure Texas doesn't care either but idk
