    I've driven all 3 on track and like the 996 and 997.1 RS more and the reason behind my decision is 1. Better feedback from the car/chassis 2. Responsive engine than the 3.8rs 3. They are more raw and more fun to drive. Great video and keep up the good work.

      and of course the GT2 and Turbo also have the Megzer engine ... but I realise this video is about GT3's ... but just adding a comment not a criticism .... I have driven 996 turbo, GT2 and GT3 RS. I liked really liked the Turbo, loved the GT2 but disliked the GT3RS. Crampt, did not like the look and it tramlined which is a pig to drive on the motorway it was all over the place.

    - 0:58 - the Mezger engine also went into non direct injection Turbos (996, 997.1)

      +TheSUPERCARDRIVER Hey guys!! I would love a bit of opinion!! I have 2 2008 GT3 RSs. both of course white/black trim 6 speed manuals of course. as you know the Gt3rs 08 U.S. models are bring over twice the price as it was new! ive never owned ANYTHING auto or paddle shift. I buy what i love to drive. i do REALLY think the 2016 GT3 RS is a top notch looking vehicle but whats holding me nack is the ZERO option with the transmission. all flappy bs. no manuals for years now but the purple GT3 RS with the 4.0 is a car that should last. like i said i have 2 08s one has 25,000 miles and the other has only 1600. Any opinion would be much respected. Actually beyond belief. this car wont see track time but im a very agresive driver. I have a 90 Skyline GTR with over 650hp i drive daily as well a 97 NSX. I also have the first manual boxed Ferrari California that the states ever hot and i think there are only 4 all together bringing over $400,000 US. . It gets driven good and proper but as I said i have my daily drivers among a few other cars ive collected. just any honest opinions would be most awesome!! . im just a 40 year pld single guy with no kids to bother with. just a cool girlfriend that knows how i love my cars. I still have my first car. Hell i have all my cars. i never bought junk and no its not family money. i grew up poor. my mum was killed when i was 15 and my only family is the greatest person on earth..My pop. i bought him a 458 a few years ago when i sold my first company and i picked out every detail i knew he would like. He had no idea. He turned wrenches for the same company for over 40 years and has trouble driving a manual so thats how we ended up with the f1 clutch. Cheers guys and again thank you! Colin

    @FelixAretz Před 9 lety +11

    You like the color-touch-infotainment-navigation-system on the 997 Mk2 but think an RS shouldn't have a traction control? Seriously?
    Also, you say the Mk2 has 2 buttons for traction control and stability control, while the button in the Mk1 does both of them the same time. That's just wrong. The 997 Mk1 doesn't have a stability control, only TC.
    And the folding seats in the Mk2 are just great. On the one hand, Porsche must use seats with airbags (due to legal reasons). On the other hand, there is plenty of space behind the seats. Even if the car is fitted with a rollcage, you can put 2 helmets and 2 bags there.
    The door openers in the Mk2 aren't only there for weight reasons but for usability. They look cool, bring a touch of 964 RS to the car, and they are easier to use in the car when you are fixed in the harness.

    Great review!
    I did put on 245's fronts on my 997.1 GT3 and it does make a big difference, as does more camber (aprox -3 front and -2 rear) and a GT2 / 997 GT3 .2 rear swaybar (the stock one is to soft in relation to the front) which creates understeer during turn-in.

      TheRoggan123 hey! I’m just about to pick up a .1RS, and was wondering if your adjustments were strictly for track performance or for general all-around performance? And did you need to do anything special to for those wider fronts? Thanks!!

      @TheRoggan123 Před 4 lety +1

      @@TheGoodDogTraining I sold the car a few years ago now, I remember that I did have a very extreme setup for a short while which was really nervous on the road and tracked like crazy on uneven roads, worked fine on the track. Took the front camber down a bit and it made a huge impact on road stability but didnt notice any negative impact on the track. Unfortunately I don't remember if it was the -3 that was bad or if it was even more. The 245s fit without any issues and mine was a narrow body regular GT3 so you should have even less of an issue on an RS. The 997 GT3 is a great car, you will love it for sure!

    Interesting! You do realise that widening front track actually means that the proportion of total cornering weight transfer that takes place across the front axle is increased, which therefore increases understeer! The actual reason modern 911s with a wider front track understeer less is because Porsche changed the spring/antiroll bar rates and geometry to reduce the understeer.

    More than any other production car porsche has made, the 996 GT3 has that "UFO" quality to it... It reminds me some of the earliest Porsche prototype bodies from the 40s and 50s.

    Great video! I have only one question, how is it okay to have satellite navigation in the 997.2, but not the control buttons for traction control etc.? In my book it's either both or none. Personally I think it's great to have the control buttons because they might come in handy sometimes, but I can also see where you're coming from on this.

    Fantastic vid, great comparisons and well qualified opinions (not stating as facts). Just a thought for the 997.1, why not remove the spacers and place larger tyres and wheels on the front? If they're 10mm spacers isn't that the same maths? Idk just curious.

    So in summary, the car has become more track-oriented and hardcore as time progressed. I really love my Turbo S because it's good at everything, though it's a bit noisy inside.

    You say that the 996 GT3 RS is “based on the wider body of the Carrera 4…”. That’s not correct. The 996 Carrera 4 was not a wide body car and the 996 GT3 RS is widely known as the last narrow body RS.

  • @Aaroncmrust

    So what kind of person would get a RS over the normal GT3? I see on porsche's website the GT3 is 130k, 475 horsepower 0-60 in 3.3 seconds versus the RS at 175k, 500 horsepower 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. is the normal GT3 for someone who wants to daily drive it?...i dont image people will see very many RS's driving around downtown. what an amazing track car

    • @shaft9000
      @shaft9000 Před 6 lety

      For track-only you buy a RSR. GT3 RS gets you closer to the RSR than the regular GT3 and is still street-legal.

    I'm a little late to the party, but to help correct the lack of front grip in the Gen 1 car, you should apply the spacers to the rear wheels instead of the fronts. Reason being that spacing the front without adjusting the rear will effectively make the front axle's roll stiffness greater, similar to installing a larger bar there. Instead you should do this to the rear axle, or reduce the trackwidth at the front to allow it better grip. Cheers.

    kind of funny serious stock porsche sports cars needs a little extra attached fender just to fit 245s when you can run 275s on a stock 01 M3 in the front with no problems at all. but wow is this guy knowledgeable!!

    Great video. Your knowledge and opinions come across really well. Be good to see you test the 997.2 GT3 against the 997.1 GT3. Also whether for the comparable price - would you take a GT4 over a 997.1 or 997.2 GT3
