- In this video Cameron and I talk about the differences between his 1987 Warrior and my 1997 Warrior and talk about the pros and cons of each of the quads. Please leave a comment of which year you prefer and don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video!
I have a 1988 warrior. I’ve owned it for 34 years. It runs like new. I’m getting ready to replace the rear axle bearings. The warriors are the best. I’m 64 years old and still ride it like I was 25. 😂
Yeah I really enjoy riding my Warrior too, it’s like a tank
I hope you enjoy it as much when you as old as I am. 😂
Back up pull starter is the gem
Any 1997 that still has all four fender decals you know has been treated well. Nice looking unit. One of the easiest quads of all time to do wheelies with.
The Round lights is what i love about the warrior and banshee, even this days my sons Warrior looks retro and Dope compared to many. :)
Yeah I love the older style round headlights on quads much more than the modern style lights
There are so many more differences between the two that you never talked about carbs, rear drive sprocket, rear swingarm, rear shock, front brakes are different, tire size, rear chain adjustment bolts, decompression valve on the engine on the 87........just a few
I just bought a 99. Very cheap to work on. Love it
Yeah it’s pretty good that the parts are cheap.
Your 87 has an old cobra muffler. They had a good throaty sound when new. I may be wrong but i believe they only make street bike exhaust now.
Hey I have an 87 and you say it is hard to pull, if you look on top the head there is a lever that is a compression release. Flip it before you pull it and it will pull really easy. It'll also save wear and tear on the pull start and you will be less likely to snap the rope or rip your fingers out of their sockets. You gotta flip the lever again every time you pull it tho
i have an 87 warrior, there is an easy way to pull start!! if you look on the right side towards the front of the engine, above where the exhaust curls around, you will find a decompression lever, you flip it and it makes it wayy easier to pull it.
✌️🙂 I'm glad that I saw this video , because now , I know that my YAMAHA WARRIOR is a 1997 , and not 1987 . Plus I put 500 HP racing wide rear wheels at the front of mine , and it looks so much better and badass than the sissy slim original wheels that were put on it 😃 .
My OCD is killingme with your front tires on backwards on the 1997...
1997 n up have the best carb i would suggest putting one on the 87
Great info thanks for letting us know
@@jakeandcameron7022 yeah np
That blue one is was nicer all around
87/88 use different A-arms than the 89-up and the shocks are shorter. The 87 os the ONLY year with replaceable ball joints, and those arms can be swapped onto an 88. The 87 is the only year that uses a bushing for the bottom of the steering stem and thus the later stems don't fit. Swing arms are 1 inch longer on the 87/88 but you have a chincy axle carrier. Don't get me started on all of the electronics changes.
Dude. If you are reading this can you send me a detailed picture of the trailer hitch mount! I have a 87 warrior I just restored and I can’t remember how to attach the hitch.
I have the exact hitch! And it originally came off of a blaster. The hitch was designed for the earlier models until the 89 model came into production. Meant to say 88 model since they came out with white and blue that year. The 89 was white and red and if you look for parts, it’s hard to find replacements because they didn’t start to sell them in mass production till 89. 87-88 were basically starters to the brand.
And another thing that might help you out with your pull start as to why it’s heavy is because the one way bearing probably went bad. The starter spins a certain direction compared to the pull start so when you use the pull start you are actually spinning the electric starter backwards, hence why the friction is stronger. It’s not a good idea to keep doing it because you can damage the gears. But its expensive to replace the pull start mechanism. The previous owner I bought mine from stripped the screw so mine spun freely so I had to customize mine to work again but I still have to work on mine.
It is just wrapped around the axle carrier I will show it in the video this coming Friday in detail
Thank you that is good to know
@@jakeandcameron7022 Awesome! I’d really appreciate it!
oh i didnt know that warrior had pullstart nice, u can really see they toke the engine from one of there 4x4 quads and throw it on a sport frame
and footwells ahhh okay so i guess the 1987 and 1988 warrior are like the 1987 1988 banshee those also dont have the heal/foot guard there is no space for it it doesnt have the frame mounts..
and same for the chaine rear sprocket its a 4 bolds one on the banshee while later it became a 6 bolds just like warrior. funny one thing i dont understand why did they go with J arms on banshee but not warrior... if they had A arms on a warrior why da hell they made J arms for a more powerfull quad and then diched it.. 4 years later
I just got a 1991 warrior from what I can tell about serial number
My 87 has chain guards
1997
I just got a 88 for a good price
Awesome, may I ask how much you got it for?
Those grips on the oldo one are poop. Blister makers
Lol, good to know
@@jakeandcameron7022 those are the type that came on mini bikes and maybe even the bigger bikes from the 70s.
No mater how you slice it warriors are junk get a Honda ride red or walk home.
Yeah I kinda actually agree with you. Now that I’ve ridden a couple Honda dirt bikes and ATC’s I can definitely see how great their quads would be.
