  • The Amish Farm - Shipshewana, Indiana
Painted in the heart of Amish country, it’s not always easy to work on location as Roger finds out whan a large dust devil sweeps through the area blowing easels and equipment into the air. Despite the setbacks the painting continues. Roger talks about the influences of warm and cool lights on the side of the barn with the ever changing light. The importance of adding a few simple strokes of intense yellow-greens on the fields are explained which complete the painting. Sarah visits a large outdoor market in Shipshewana where she talks with an Amish man about their lifestyle.

I love what you said - "Art is a search to find poetry in simple things" - so true!

Excellent! This was very nice! Enjoyed all of this including that crazy dust devil. We get those in IL, too.

It was interesting. The Amish farmer was so very nice. Invited me into his house even. He just didn't want me to photograph him or his wife but the barn and animals he was proud of and invited me to photograph that.

Really enjoyed watching you paint along with the narrative! The dust devil was crazy!!! Your other farm paining towards the end are all amazing! Do you lightly sand and then add a coat of gesso to the masonite board before you paint? Thanks!!
