I realize what shapes, how many shapes to use, and how those shapes change with different hair textures by studying from references. Let's sketch~!

Curly hair is really tough to draw (and even harder to style when you have curly hair yourself! XD)
I have long curly hair
So true! But I don’t like styling it so I just struggle with brushing it. But for drawing it I recommend doing like square shapes and then add a little hair at the end. Idk, it’s hard to explain.

Plus, sometimes the Wi-Fi goes out and you can't access videos. A book would be helpful to learn drawing techniques while you wait for the Wi-Fi to come back on.

I find that knowing where the hairline is, seeing how other people draw it, referencing, seeing what shapes make it up, and practicing can really help here! I have short hair and I don’t struggle too much drawing it but I see why other people could.

Hi Rin! You aren’t going to see this but i thought i’d leave a little tip, since i have wavy hair myself and know show it behaves. Basically, a lot of natural wavy hair doesn’t actually curl around, it just kinda bobs in and out and most likely ends curling in towards the head/face. it is quite tricky to draw lol -cries in bad artist- but you get the hang of it. i would use shapes more like semi circles that alternate in directions :). That’s just for hair without a curling iron, though. Love you Rin, you’re so amazing! 🦋💗✨

id actually suggest ribbons ! ribbons can have a tight or loose curl and thats usually how i draw them

I had the same problem before, but, I didn't stop practicing and now I draw pretty well and I believe In yourself and work hard, I am only eleven and learnt drawing well when I was nine, people didn't think that I'd be a good artist, but I practiced and practiced, you know how they say, practice makes man perfect, so practice, best of luck!!
I have trouble with feet and shoes lmao.
Shoes are just big fat ovals, and feet are somewhat deformed.

@@SequoiaSleeps that's why i cut off most of my drawings at the waist and have arms by the side. No feet, no hands, no knees- wayy easier

Me: struggling to make a single face...
For me when I'm struggling I either just do multiple bad drawings to 'get it out of my system' and sometimes I figure out how to fix it sometimes I don't, or I give myself a time limit so I can see what I go for when drawing the face/etc. and it helps me learn the basics I need for the face to make it look like a face. I know for me at least I usually learn more by going through multiple bad drawings than spending all my time trying to make one good one.

Crazy important message I see in this video: practice makes perfect, you need to identify things that need to be improved and work on them,practice as much as you can! It's a mostly behind the scenes activity because it's not always the most entertaining one, yet a crucial for your growth!

Watching you figure your way through references / teaching yourself to draw things is SO HELPFUL to me!! Seeing how another artist breaks down reference photos and seeing your process helps me when I tackle reference photos of my own. I think these types of videos might be my favorite as far as learning goes! (though the new art supply videos are always so entertaining --they scratch the itch of wanting to go and buy my own new supplies)
I drew refined lines for a floaty scarf and a Star Wars (Ahsoka) mermaid doodle as I watched this!
I love seeing studies, and hearing artists figuring out stuff they want to get better at. We're all improving, and all see our need for improvement (no matter how awesome our art is). It's good to be reminded.

i know this is an old video, but i love the way that this spread literally shows off the learning process, with the more rendered versions being on the right, signifying more time has passed and therefore more confidence in the illustration, especially in contrast with the light first sketch and the diagram of the curl- just a little thing that i loved watching unfold!!
curly hair is something I taught myself how to draw a while ago, and watching you learn the same things that I learned then is so fun!

I would suggest to avoid straight lines in the wavy hair and use squiggly lines without controling where you want it to, and after that you can just control where you want it to be and have the texture you want and also you should not make the ends flat lines you should make it go thinner and finally end at a point. Hope this helps you ❤
