On the topic of criticism, I want to put out a piece of criticism from the perspective of a disabled person who is closely involved with accessibility issues and disabled rights.
When it comes to making the information you have and the content you create as accessible to a wide range of people as possible, something that would improve that accessibility is to properly caption your videos. The auto-generated captions are of poor quality and inaccurate, and taking the time and energy to caption these videos makes a big difference in who can learn from the content you create. This is especially true as you talk about sites and peoples from all around the world, since the english auto-generated captions really butchers names that aren't in English 🫠
Regardless, you make some really quality content and it's nice to see you actually care about ethics and are able to accept criticism, something that a lot of people haven't learned how to do yet. Much love ❤

As an archie myself this is a really important realization for you to have yourself and present to your audience. As one of the members of the committee who wrote the Canadian Archaeological Associations ethics statement, this is something I care deeply about.
As someone who works in northern Ontario, there are many many people who take points and other artifacts from archaeological sites. This is extremely frustrating, because there is limited preservation here, pot hunting or searching with metal detectors can damage the limited information we have.
A recommendation, would it be possible moving forward to enforce these ethical principles on the discord server…I’ve seen lots of people posting artifacts they loot on that server and that shouldn’t be supported.

It’s really hard to admit when you’re wrong (not to mention embarrassing), so the fact that you’re so open to criticism and genuinely learning from it and admitting to your faults is so, so refreshing and definitely something I think we should all try to emulate. I hope everyone goes forward into the new year with a clear head and good intentions of bettering themselves, however that ends up being-and remember that even small steps are steps! We can’t all be perfect right off the bat, but as long as we’re trying, we’re moving in the right direction. Let’s all work hard to leave behind something (memories, art, anything!) beautiful for the people who come after us! ❤

I am subbing on Daskalos channel and already seen his reaction vid. I am glad you answered him, learning from your mistakes is really the only way to get better at anything when you reached a certain level of knowledge and admitting when you are wrong is the difference between a good guy and a slimy politician.
It is certainly a problem with North American archaeology that most of the information about many sites are 50+ years old and most books about the subject are using those old reports so getting up to date information is rather hard. There is really room for someone to write a new extensive series of books on the American history from White sands and the Gaultier archaeological site to the start of colonial times who actually talks to the archaeologists and get the latest archaeology because there have happened a lot in recent times.
I live in Sweden, we had a series of books recently by someone doing just that and it instantly made any other historical book obsolete since so much have been found in the last 20 years and tools like DNA and geophysics have really changed the field.
The average Joe might not read books like that but it makes research so much easier for people interested in the subject.
And of course making vids about sites most people never heard of is also an important way to teach people of the past. Keep up the good work.

Hey Milo (if you so happen to see this), I have to say I'm very impressed that you are taking complete ownership of your ethical misstep. I have to admit, when I saw the Dark Routes episode where you moved the pot shard from its in situ place, I did think to myself, "Really? That's acceptable?" Having taken some introductory Arch courses in my life, it surprised me that you endorsed interacting with the site in such a way. This said, I am glad that you took feedback from a professional in the domain and have adapted that feedback into this video. Ethical mistakes can happen - as you said, passions and excitement can be consuming, especially while undergoing such a large and ambitious journey. I, for one, would love to see more and more professionals and experts assist you as you continue forward making your videos. I think tapping into humility of knowledge is extremely powerful as a young (or old!) professional, and getting expertise from those directly involved in the research sphere of what you're covering is a wise move. I'm sure you will find many professionals who are eager and willing to share their knowledge with you, and that will only enhance the veracity as well as the nuance of what you discuss. A great example of how you've already done this was with your Baghdad Battery episodes!
Long winded. But. Keep up the good work, get the professionals involved, and leverage that with your quickly maturing production skills/team, and you will have second-to-none content for a long time to come!

Happy late birthday, happy solstice, and can I just say that you are one of few people who keep hope for the future alive and thriving. So many people today (and probably throughout history, although you’d know better than me!) struggle so much with admitting something so simple: “I was wrong.” You have an incredibly mature and optimistic outlook on that, by turning it into an educational experience instead of a personal attack. I think you could build an actual series with this idea. Each episode could be a 1 hour study of a regional dig using interviews with the on site archaeologist to tell the story of the culture and the dig.
    Show format:
--Lead in with why you were drawn to the site
--Focus on the people doing the dig and any unique obstacles they are facing due to geography, local laws, cultural limitations to the dig, money, etc.
--backstory on the culture being examined
--cover their findings and what those mean to history, pedagogy, and most importantly, the descndents of the culture (when applicable)
--end with their ongoing hypotheses/researxh question/goals and what they are still hoping to uncover
I see it in my head like a TV show.

Firstly I want to say that Milo, you are probably my favorite creator on the platform at the moment and I'm super happy to see videos like this and the response to the criticisms of your Baghdad Battery video, showing people that being wrong is simply part of life and owning up to your mistakes, admitting when you're wrong, and correcting them is an important part of any academic field and honestly just an important part of life.

I cannot express how fucking refreshing the Archaology wide of youtube is. With youtubers its always drama and content and callouts and just irritating, pretty much everywhere I've seen beyond this niche when people get bought up on things is either a full apology video because theyve done something fucked up, or met with aggression and anger because theyre being criticised.
I wanna thank both Milo for being just a decent person by openly accepting criticism and admitting mistakes, not in like a comment but a full video shouting out where someone has corrected him, but also just all of Archaology youtubers for not just making good faith, constructive criticisms, but also not being afraid to criticise.
