  • For more feeling and stability, I set pressure points with my fingers during my strokes. For the backhand, this is the thumb. In this quick tip, you can find out how I use my thumb consciously. Maybe you can use it to improve your game.

Timo, sometimes you’re so humble it’s annoying because you deserve to be able to talk about your accomplishments with no one ever thinking you are bragging because they are so great haha. It’s ultimately lovable though and we appreciate you, and this was a good video.

    This is how I'm applying Timo's techniques to get some extra power:
    Move my thumb off the racquet during my back-swing.
    Squeeze the racquet handle right before contacting the ball using both my palm and my other three fingers.
    Almost simultaneously press the racquet using my thumb.

  • @dmitryklochkovapps6512

    It is very a interesting topic, thanks! Waiting for a video about the index finger pressure point during forehand strokes and transitions between forehand and backhand. I am not a professional table tennis player and I was told by a tt coach that the grip should be the same for FH and BH strokes. And it makes sense as it takes a certain amount of time to make the grip adjustment every time you switch between FH and BH. But on the other hand this universal frozen grip seems to be less efficient for each individual stroke. So it is a compromise I believe. You either win some additional time by keeping same grip or you get more control/power by adjusting the grip by sacrificing that time.

    What angle your thumb is? Does your thumb touch the rubber more whith its fleshy down part or more your bony side part of your thumb touches the racket? Or somewhere in between? Also how does this pressure point relates to the contact point of the ball on your racket? I guess if that pressure point is more downward then the contact point more lift you have? During you apply this pressure how the flexibility of the thumb relates to the flexibility of the wrist and elbow and triceps, compared to each other how tight are those muscles?

    Timo, I want to ask. In doubles games I often see before serving the player always giving the code to his partner. I would like to know what exactly the code given to the partner is?

    • @timstopfer7485
      @timstopfer7485 Před 3 lety +1

      It is up to you and your partner what signs you want to use. For example if you point the index finger to the ground, it could mean making a backspin serve. Pointing the index finger to the side would be a serve with sidespin in the pointed direction and if you do both these signs after each other it'd be a serve with side and backspin. If it is clear for your partner and yourself what every signs means, then and the server can indicate to the partner, which serve he is going to make. On the other hand the partner can also indicate to the server what serve he should make, because he may want the ball to be returned in a certain way.

      @@Abcdef12396 it shouldnt hit that part. Hitting the ball with rubber close to the handle will not give a good spin. Watch emrathich's video on contact point he explained it pretty well.
      Edit: unless you have a very long thumb...

      @@Abcdef12396 well if it matters to you, then you´re having some serious technical issues on your strokes. Either you hit the ball with the wrong part of the blade/rubber or using your thumb too high in the blade. maybe you should check your grip and make some adjustments. regards.
