- For more feeling and stability, I set pressure points with my fingers during my strokes. For the backhand, this is the thumb. In this quick tip, you can find out how I use my thumb consciously. Maybe you can use it to improve your game.

1 minute 22 seconds but Gold ! 😋
Thank you very much Timo Boll.
This is what was missing in table tennis, Amazing filming techniques and video quality!
Thanks.
I don't want to become a perfect copy of your style??! Of course I do!!!
Exactly! who wouldn't want more spin than a politician's word.
@@muhammadsohaibimran1402 timo sacrifices speed and power for extra spin that’s probably why he said that
☺️
I just need 10% of your skills to beat anyone in my club 😂
Yes i do become a perfect copy of your style Timo
I like your style so much that i dont compar it to amy style out there.
Du bist mein Lieblings Spieler.
Greetings from Swiss 👍
“You don’t want to be a perfect copy of my style” says the man who beat the Chinese, won a ton of euro championships, and is respected as one of the best of all time 😂. Timo, sometimes you’re so humble it’s annoying because you deserve to be able to talk about your accomplishments with no one ever thinking you are bragging because they are so great haha. It’s ultimately lovable though and we appreciate you, and this was a good video.
Thanks☺️
1 Minute straight technical advice.
Just great!
1:03 Yes, I want to become a perfect copy of your style!
😉
Very useful advice!
This is how I'm applying Timo's techniques to get some extra power:
Move my thumb off the racquet during my back-swing.
Squeeze the racquet handle right before contacting the ball using both my palm and my other three fingers.
Almost simultaneously press the racquet using my thumb.
What an awesome tip! I can't wait to try it! Thanks a bunch, Timo!
Let me know if you like it
Many Thanks Timo, thumb pressure also gives more stability and power to the Back Hand, especially during BH Top Spin.
I am pressured by this point. Two thumbs up.
So, I will copy the quicktipp and then try it when a practice session.
Thank You very much Timo ! This is what I need. Very useful tip. This small adjustment we are not able to find during the match in tv. Only great coach or great Player.. can give you tips.. advice..i will try to use this.. i hope that i will play better :)
I hope too 😉
Thumb is important in badminton backhand as well. I have never used thumb in backhand. Need to try this asap.
I saw similar thumb technique from Ma Long. Gonna try this next training!
That's super useful tip! Thanks Timo
Thanks a lot Timo...
Thank you so much Timo. I have a friend who still has this problem.
Thats very interesting, tanks timo !😉😄
Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try this.
Awesome!!! Keep going 🏓
Spot on! great video as usual
Thanks very much! That just what I’ve been looking for recently. 😀
Oh timo you're great ♥️♥️ that's what i needed
Thanks!
Great video Timo
My favourite player!! 👍
Thanks! Timo you're amazing person!
Great video timo! I never thought about using my thumb like this.
Thanks for your advice. Good short video.
Thank you, Timo, for sharing nuances of your skills)
Hey Timo Boll
Big fan from INDIA please make a video on A Day In The Life Of Timo Boll
Yes, sometimes I do Vlogs too
Another useful video
Thanks for sharing this, I try to pay attention at my next training to this advice!
The best!❤
Will surely try it out today and try to understand the difference in game.
Daumen hoch! Und das im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Nicht nur für diese Video, Timo. Sondern auch für die Schlagtechnik. Vielen Dank dafür. Bleib gesund!
Watched this last week and already doing this more consciously, though I catch myself regularly not really doing it. I still have to work a bit on how to transition in and out of that grip change too. But when I use it my backhand feels much more controlled. Thanks Timo! Hope to see you someday soon in Eleven VR.
Super useful tip...thank you so much !
And yes, I want to become exact copy of Timo Boll :)
Hey tim.! The simple way you speak and play is awesome 🎉 i hope I can learn this . My loops and drive are strong on forehand . But only my crosscourt backhand is ok . This will help.
Thank you 😊 🙏
thanks timo for the tip.. i was kinda having trouble with my backhand cause i don't have a stable grip on my backhand
OMG man ! You are the best !!!!!!
You are really talented
Thank you very much Sir
I tried using my thumb on a few shots last night and it felt pretty good. It made me have more feeling for the stroke I think. I'll have to try it some more. Thanks Timo! Keep up the good work brother!
Great, give it a try for a few sessions
Wichtiges Thema👍
More tips please!!
nicer tipp, danke
Good Tips
Thank you for the great technical tip Timo!
I hope you follow this video with more grip and pressure points advice for the forehand...
Coming soon. Video will be called, the index finger
It is very a interesting topic, thanks! Waiting for a video about the index finger pressure point during forehand strokes and transitions between forehand and backhand. I am not a professional table tennis player and I was told by a tt coach that the grip should be the same for FH and BH strokes. And it makes sense as it takes a certain amount of time to make the grip adjustment every time you switch between FH and BH. But on the other hand this universal frozen grip seems to be less efficient for each individual stroke. So it is a compromise I believe. You either win some additional time by keeping same grip or you get more control/power by adjusting the grip by sacrificing that time.
😃😃😃Timo Boll
Hello from Uzbekistan.
Thanks for content
Werde ich sofort ausprobieren, wenn das Training in der Halle wieder möglich ist. Danke!
I love you Timo. Greetings from Turkmenistan
You said it, nobody does... GREAT WOB and Thanks, Timo. Btw nice editing :)
Thanks 😊
finally content for left handed players :)
Thanks for the great tip Timo. In your next video can you please show how to do a perfect backhand topspin.
Yeah, hopefully the English version of my Timo Boll Webcoach will be soon available, there you can learn all kinds of techniques
@@timoboll8381 thanks for your feedback.
I saw that Timo thumb switch several month ago. Funny is that, my coach all the time claims the thumb should be "frozen" on the rocket 😔. I will show him this video. Thanks Timo! Stay healthy!
Haha. He should call me if I'm wrong ☺️
Timo, hello from is Russua, i am fan for you. I see now its your game 1999 ear. Bundesliga, nice game!
When you really know what you are talking about. Well said
Pressure points for forehand also pls Timo ❤️❤️❤️
On the forehand, you must pinch your racket with your index finger and thumb on this channel you can learn more about the grip: czcams.com/users/EmRatThichTableTennisCoachsearch?query=grip
@@tabletennis1237 Yeah EmRatThich is a great coach too.
It's on the way
@@timoboll8381 I swear I saw a dream today in which I met you, Thank you soo much for replying your such an inspiration for me hope that we will meet one day ❤️❤️❤️
Yes! I do the same. Although, my problem is sometimes, I'm too slow in changing from forehand to backhand. So in fast counter exchanges, my shots become awkward in the BH or I force my FH.
I had same problem. What I did was to practice switching grips when sitting on the sofa
@@xkxmud5136 Good idea! Thanks! Especially with COVID, this is good practice.
Hi Timo. Thanks for your tip. Can you tell me when you do forehanđ topspin, where do you place your thumb and do you press your thumb as strongly as you do backhand stroke?
Thanks timo..please give pressure point advice for forehand also
you must pinch your rocket with thumb and index finger when you contact the ball, learn more here: czcams.com/users/EmRatThichTableTennisCoachsearch?query=grip
@@tabletennis1237 Thanks
Coming soon, already produced and will be "The index finger"
@@timoboll8381 : wow got a reply from Timo boll .Can't wait for next tutorial.
Wow, I always thought the pressure point was only applicable for blocking spinny balls from the bh side, will try it for topspin too! What's the forehand pressure point? As far as I have noticed, my arm is relaxed when hitting the fh topspin
Timo I think I love you
Timo, I want your Trainings-Anzug (sportsuit), where can I buy it ? :-)
Thank you timo! I was looking for this video! but how do you switch to forehand after that during a rally by exemple ?
Will do a video about this transition in the futere
@@timoboll8381 thanksssss!
my idol i love u so much ❤❤
What angle your thumb is? Does your thumb touch the rubber more whith its fleshy down part or more your bony side part of your thumb touches the racket? Or somewhere in between? Also how does this pressure point relates to the contact point of the ball on your racket? I guess if that pressure point is more downward then the contact point more lift you have? During you apply this pressure how the flexibility of the thumb relates to the flexibility of the wrist and elbow and triceps, compared to each other how tight are those muscles?
When thumb is up on the rubber my grip become very backhand oriented when opponent suddenly attack to forehand i cant close bat quickly to hit forehand
Little bit backhand oriented is enough.
How do you switch between forehand and backhand grips?
The devil is in the details. This detail will benefit all beginners.
@timoboll would you recommend use the blade with a tape around it? I think that my tape is too wide that also covers the rubbers.
Mine covers the rubber too
I play with long pimples on the backhand with the TB Spirit Blade, can this thumb technique be used with long pimples rubbers?
hi timo i just want to ask that when ever i hit back hand my racket position changed a lil bit according to me what is the reason behind ghat
What is pressure point for forehand grip ?
Could you please make another video about forehand pressure point? Love you from Egypt
You don’t do this on forehand
@@xkxmud5136 no, you must pinch your rocket with thumb and index finger when you contact the ball, learn more here: czcams.com/users/EmRatThichTableTennisCoachsearch?query=grip
@@tabletennis1237 you mean backhand right? For forehand you shouldn’t put the thumb up. You can use your index finger to support the bat but definitely no thumb.
Already produced and coming soon
@@timoboll8381 Danke mine Herr
Allo Timo , do you speak some french , would be nice to hear you a la francaise. Tumbs up for your coaching capsule.
Do I want to be a perfect copy of Timo? Does a chicken have wings? Great video. Thanks.
I tend to move two and sometimes more fingers to the middle of the backhand side when playing forehand, and index and middle fingers when playing backhand. Bad habit or "okay" as long as it feels right?
Bad habit cause it's not gonna be that fast when switching between forehand and backhand
One dislike from somebody ever just was bitten by Timo :$
During the acceleration on the backhand stroke do you squeeze the racket with your thumb or the thumb is just there to “stabilize” the stroke?
I "squeeze" the whole grip, but a little extra pressure with the thumb for backhand strokes
@@timoboll8381 Awesome! Thanks a lot 💪 Can you do a tutorial next on how to add power to your backhand strokes, especially with backhand topspins against backspin? 😁
Timo, why is butterfly so expensive?
Because they sponsor the best and moto prestigious athletes and their rubbers last forever.
I think because of their high quality and they produce their rubbers in Japan
I've been using this technique is I started playing as well. But I'm noticing I have trouble when I have to quickly cross over to play forehand. My thumb doesn't move back into forehand grip and I am caught offguard playing an uncomfortable stroke. Do you guys keep your thumb in the same place always? Or do you change the position between forehand/backhand?
No, for forehand I'm using the index finger as my pressure point
@@timoboll8381 Thanks for the reply Timo! You were my idol growing up watching table tennis and it's awesome to see you making videos for the international community to enjoy! :)
Timo, I want to ask. In doubles games I often see before serving the player always giving the code to his partner. I would like to know what exactly the code given to the partner is?
It is up to you and your partner what signs you want to use. For example if you point the index finger to the ground, it could mean making a backspin serve. Pointing the index finger to the side would be a serve with sidespin in the pointed direction and if you do both these signs after each other it'd be a serve with side and backspin. If it is clear for your partner and yourself what every signs means, then and the server can indicate to the partner, which serve he is going to make. On the other hand the partner can also indicate to the server what serve he should make, because he may want the ball to be returned in a certain way.
@@timstopfer7485 ok, thanks
Helmut hampel the good homey
I do this and its really good but it makes the rubber loose its grip pretty quick on the part of the rubber where I push my thumb. I guess it doesn't matter for the pros but for me as a poor amateur it does. Anyone else has experienced this?
if it loses its grip in that particular place it doesn´t matter because you won´t hit te ball with that part of the rubber
@@lucasnicolasfioramanti7878 It does actually since I twiddle my racket quite a lot.
@@Abcdef12396 it shouldnt hit that part. Hitting the ball with rubber close to the handle will not give a good spin. Watch emrathich's video on contact point he explained it pretty well.
Edit: unless you have a very long thumb...
@@Abcdef12396 well if it matters to you, then you´re having some serious technical issues on your strokes. Either you hit the ball with the wrong part of the blade/rubber or using your thumb too high in the blade. maybe you should check your grip and make some adjustments. regards.
Why is the side tape only half glued?
He said he only side tapes the portion of the racket that might hit the table while doing a forehand push, putting it everywhere alters the rubber characteristics too much for him
Because it's changing too much the characteristics
How do I use this advise when using Chinese pen ???
Haha, that's not possible to do it in the same way, but I should make a video about the penhold style
