Lol when Puss shows up I was like “Wait? You don’t know the tale of Puss in Boots?”... also didn’t anyone else realize that the Fairy godmother purposely left out “Beauty and the Beast?” Like the beast and ogres are both Monsters who get a Happily Ever After
The beast was actually a handsome human prince who just happens to be turned into a monster and wasn't born as one like Shrek. Plus, in the end it's Prince who married a girl and lived happily ever after, not the monster, cause "Monsters can't live hapilly ever after"

Well, Beauty and the Beast exist in Shrek. Beauty has a glittering palace in Far Far Away and the Beast has a spacious kennel, meaning he never turned into a Prince, so maybe he was BORN a Beast. So why would Fairy Godmother let the Beast live happily ever after and not Shrek?

theres nothing quite like experiencing the "i need a hero" scene for the first time
Cody. Yes, Harold was a frog before. If you go back to the bedroom scene where Fairy Godmother picks him up in the carriage, you’ll see hints of it like the lily pad paintings and the green on the bed. Also, when Harold goes into the Poison Apple to hire Puss in Boots, there’s a female frog who asks him “Do I know you”, in which Harold promptly answers no and moves on as quickly as possible. When Fairy Godmother said she could “take away his ending” when confronting Harold in the back room of the Poison Apple, she’s referring to making him human so he could be with Lillian. The screen behind their chairs at the ball has a lily pad motif as well.
I reckon the death of the fairy is what turned Harold back into a frog because her magic was all undone after she passed
Actually, when the Fairy God Mother aims a bolt at Shrek and Fiona to turn them back into ogres (their true selves), Harold jumps out in front of them, taking the hit. Thus, turning into HIS true self, a frog.

Just wanted to let you know, and not trying to put you off in anyway, but Shrek the Third is USUALLY seen as the weakest movie of the franchise. If, like many people, you don’t enjoy it, PLEASE go into the fourth one with an open mind! It’s generally shoved to the side after the third one not being that amazing and forgotten, but it’s honestly brilliant, and in my opinion, on par with the first one!
Agreed! While I prefer 1 & 2, the fourth one was pretty good. That end scene with Shrek and alternate universe Fiona is such a beautiful moment 😭
1,2 and 4 were my favourites. 3 doesn't change much overall, IMO.

Fun little bit of trivia; to go alongside Donkey’s transformation to a stallion, the filmmakers toyed with ideas of what Dragon would change into. They decided on a giant pink Pegasus or unicorn with wings, but they ultimately decided to scrap her inclusion in the movie (until the post-credit scene) because they thought having her in the movie’s climax would make saving the day too easy
Like how the knights' reaction to a giant creature is more realistic than some live action historical depictions of siege battles.

While I love Shrek, Shrek 2 is definitely my absolute favorite. Specially cause I love Puss n Boots. And yes, Fairy Godmother killed it with "I Need a Hero". That whole scene at the end is just amazing, with such a great song.

I watched this movie so many times as a kid, my parents had it in their disc collection but not the first one and I would reply it alot. My dumb little kid head actually thought this was the first movie for some reason.

I'm sure someone already brought it up, but Puss in Boots is an actual fairy tale character and one of his most famous accomplishments was, in fact, killing an ogre (granted, he used trickery rather than weapons to do it).
_Shrek 2_ is proof that sequels can be as iconic and better than the originals.
The purring in the trees is supposed to be a reference for the Predator. I laughed so hard when I heard it the first time years ago. Also didn't hurt that they also did a alien reference with the chest buster scene. 😋
