    Yea I thought Brad Pitt did a fantastic job with is portray of Jesse, as did everyone else in the cast and the art to the film is just wonderfully beautiful! I really hope some time in the near future the director will release the uncut four hour version!!

    Fantastic story! I am 65 years old, I am Brazilian and I live in the south of Brazil, in the city of Porto Alegre. I am passionate about the history of the Wild West. Its heroes, sheriffs and outlaws and also habits, the achievement so difficult and sacrificed. I research a lot about the lives of Jesse James, Billy The Kid, Wyatt Earp, Will Bill Hickock, Calamity Jane, Butch Cassidy, Doc Holiday, Pat Garret and others who built the beautiful history of the American West. Cinema does not always faithfully portray real events, using fiction and stabbing history. In the film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (where Brad Pitt plays Jesse and Casey Affleck the Ford), Jesse presents Bob with an S&W Schofield and, ironically, was the weapon used by Bob Ford to murder him. Did this really happen or was it invented by the film's director? When Jesse takes off his belt with the revolvers before climbing on the chair to clean the dust off the painting, it gives the impression that he wants to be killed. (my opinion before the scene). In the film, Jesse faced a very strong emotional crisis, constantly living in remorse for the life he led. Did he know that Ford would kill him if he had a chance and then made it easy? What do you, who have a lot of knowledge about the life of Jesse James, think of my theory? I have two S&W Schofield CO2, 4.5mm, from ASG, (Steel Gray and Aging Black, the latter with wooden grips that I made myself). I also have an 1875 Remington. On my channel Airguns & Airsofts comment on issues pertaining to the Wild West and its protagonists. I really liked your video. You have the story in your hands! Its explanation is detailed and precise. Even with my English which is not very good, I managed to understand the content. Congratulations! You won a channel subscriber. I will follow the materials, which are like going back in time. They say that "hugs" are not sent to Americans, that this type of treatment is not used. Well, here in Brazil, suits as a habit, send hugs as a form of friendship, so ... Big hug

      Brad Pitt's movie is very authentic and true. You can read our take on the film on our family website Stray Leaves. While it can't be said Jesse was remorseful at the end of his life, he definitely had become a fatalist. He accepted his actions for what they were and the probable consequences that might come. Have you ever gone to a meeting of the Confederados in Sao Paulo, Brazil? They are descendants of Confederates from the Civil War in the US. They migrated to Brazil after the Civil War. No James descendants among them, though.

    I am looking for any photos or info of the original funeral home where Jesse was taken to. I do believe it is long gone, but the company, of course, merged with a few others and now houses the funerary museum in St Joe. According to what they think, the basket in their possession is the very basket where Jesse's body was placed when being removed from the home to the funeral home.

  • @vikingshelm
    @vikingshelm Před 5 lety

    I have yet to find a single photo of the original building, but the adress was 602 and 604 RTH street in St Joe. Next to the casket factory and undertakers offices was the home of the undertaker, which was at 606 4th street. The parlor was located on the corner of 4th and Messanie. The name was Sidenfaden.
    A young Tom Pendergast was allegedly amongst the curious gawkers in St Joe, and the interesting part is that Frank was said to end up working for Big Jim Pendergast in later years, as a faro dealer and bouncer at one of his West Bottoms Saloons.
    Sadly, another piece of St Joe history was erased when Maurice Milligan pushed to have the Pendergast home demolished. It actually stood across the street from, at the time, the latest incarnation of the Sidenfaden Funeral Home. The site of the Pendergast house is on the corner of Union and Frederick, and is now occupied by a funerary monument maker.
    Another question I have:
    What church did Jesse have his funeral at in Kearney, and is it still there? Where were the Kearney lost morten photos taken? I believe the St Joe photos were taken at the original funeral home I mentioned.

    There is an individual that has a Smith and Wesson schofield 45 with ivory grips that has supposed Jesse Woodson James signatures as well as supposed blood from the man himself. The gun was on history channel on a show called "Found". If your aware of this whats your or the James family take on this pistol?

      @@EricFJames Thanks for the reply Eric! I figured that specific gun (Jesse's Smith and Wesson 45) was still in the family or if I wasnt mistaken it was on display at the James Family Farm when I went a few years back. Its a shame to this day that there are still claims of photo's and weapon's having belong to Jesse with no province and yet people will try and pass them off as authentic to others and even have as far as the History channel backing up their false claims. I'd just hate to see someone buy or spend a pretty penny on supposed Jesse James relics when the seller knows for a fact the items are not legit. Luckily the James Preservation Trust prevents these sort of things from happening and gives these individuals a big surprise at the auction house.

    I have read that Jesse James's mother, after opening the family farm to tourists, would buy guns second hand from the
    local hardware store and sell them as having belonged to Jesse. Any truth? I expect that these might be collectible in their
    own right.

    • @EricFJames
      @EricFJames  Před 8 lety +1

      +paulgra Total mythology. If it was true, there would exist today an active secondary market in the guns, not to mention a lot of pictures. What is true is that she did sell to visitors to the farm stones that she laid on JJ's grave, when the grave was located on the family farm, prior to his grave being removed to Mt. Olivet Cemetery..

    Thank you for your talk. I have a different story not altogether mine .When I was a small boy I was taken to the family farm near Thurles Ireland.my mother took me to a place where a tree was situated ,now on this tree was inscribed in the bark a shape that looked like an s or a snake .Going on approx 1990 I saw a vid documentary about JJ it spoke of these catches of jjs treasure
    This says to me my grand dad was jj and the man who died 1882 was charlie bigelow.cb looks nothing like jj the vid explained that
    My uncle Jack had an uncanny resemblance to jj It gives the man who claimed to be jj back in the 1940 alot of credence.As soon as I hear jj story's I've got to say .my bit ,not to detract from yours thank you

      Today, Dec 7, 2013, in New York City is the revival screening of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," Brad Pitt's movie that is fast becoming a classic. Director Andrew Dominick will be in attendance to talk about the film following the screening. I may be doing some screenings myself in 2014. Today, I am in Midway, Kentucky at the Historic Midway Museum Store, signing my book and talking about the Zee James Collection of family artifacts recovered in 2000.
