Thank you. This was helpful. The first time I turned it all on, the Mac erroneously told me the camera (well, the EOS webcam) wasn't connected. The Mac lies about that constantly, even when I'm filming. Did a quick restart of the camera and finally the Mac behaved better. Next, I had to test the two selections Zoom gave me for the microphone. I wasn't sure by Zoom's labels which was the camera's mic and which was the Mac's.
Im so glad you needed to update your Zoom. I was on the phone with Canon and on his advice uploaded the correct Canon Webcam Utility. Then tried to find my camera on Zoom which wasn't showing. Got off the phone, saw your video, updated my Zoom and vwallah! there it was...the Canon Webcam Utility did its job and my camera was listed. Thank you!

Love this video! I've been looking for how to do this for so long! One thing to note, for anyone out there who wants to achieve a nice shallow depth of field (blurry background) get a lens that has an f-stop of around 1.8 or better (1.6 or 1.4).
I am an acting student in Turkey and due to the earthquake, our universities switched to online education. Our professor saw this as an opportunity to study acting in front of the camera and asked us to participate with a dslr camera, so I'm here. Thank you!

My friends and I are doing our live podcast with zoom, so this is most helpful. The only downside is that there is non for 70D, which is what I have.
I also have a 70D and I'm quite frustrated!
I have the 70D also. I just watched other videos, where they didnât have their camera option. They installed an upgraded option. Such as cannon 80D software and it worked Iâm going to test it out today.
I also have the 70D. There is a workaround it. Requires some more steps but is doable. You'll need Camera Live instead of EOS, and then CamTwist. It works!
Utility is now available for 70D as well...although been having some issue connecting via Zoom App. Works fine on Zoom Browser

Simple and practical tutorial, thanks! Quick question, how are you ensuring that your DSLR camera's battery doesn't die on your during the zoom? Are you using a mains power source or something like that?
A power source would be ideal, I've just been charging a bunch of batteries. Ideally you'd have it plugged into power.
@@KellanReck That makes sense - perhaps a dummy battery going into a wall socket would do. Another concern I have is that my camera has a video record limit, i.e. the camera will stop after 29 mins. How do we prevent that from happening while streaming?
@@usmanmajid7837 The dummy battery will definitely work. You don't need to worry about a record limit on your camera because you won't actually be recording. Half of the time I'm streaming, I don't even have a memory card in my camera.
@@KellanReck Ah okay that's awesome. Now the next step is to find a suitable camera.... my Canon 70D isn't on the list of compatible camera's for the webcam utility driver! :-(
@@usmanmajid7837 If you look for something like the 90D, it should still work. As long as it's in the same line of cameras.
Alright. So I tried this with a canon 70d and its having issues. First is that the frame rate is garbage. its like a laggy livestream quality frame rate. Second is that even with "HD" checked in the zoom settings, its saving the video in what appears to be 240p-ish quality (and with the garbage frame rate as well)
With the exception of picking up better colors, my built in facetime camera on my mac actually looks better than the 70d.
Any thoughts?
Totally works great with the exception of the delayed audio using built in speakerphone from my MacBook. Any tips on using the DSLR audio as the source to help with the lag? Seems like EOS Utility didn't pull audio as well.

Appreciate the guidance. One questions...my Canon t7i has a rode mic mounted but it doesn't appear as an option for mics in Zoom. Is there something I can do to make that mic usable in Zoom?

Hey there, great video but how do you select the DSLR camera as your AUDIO source too? I now can record in Zoom using the DSLR as a webcam but the computer audio is crap. I want to use my DSRL with my external COMICA Boom XD lavalier mic and can't find any instructions how to do that. I don't see how to add the Canon M50 with COMICA Boom XD as an audio source. Good video doesn't matter if audio sucks. Any advice would be appreciated!

Awesome Awesome - I am working on setting up a Zoom stream for a funeral. I have a 5Ds ... I was a lil concerned about it's frame rate... it's not really good with video- However, it has proven to be an acceptable camera for this project. I have the shoe in 24-70 2.8 and it's pretty clean. What happens when it runs out of battery? Does it stop or receive battery through the usb?
It will just turn off after that but what I did was get an infinite power source for my camera and plugged it into an outlet.

Hi Kellan, After I connect the EOS with zoom, it is not in full-frame, as in, the insert video is crop and small. This means, when I use a virtual back group, I am lift-off from the base of the b/g as if I was floating. Do you have a solution for this?

Kellan - Good webinar. Iâm using Canon's EOS webcam software with my 70D for video calls (Zoom, etc.). (1) I've always left camera on A+. If you have the info, then Iâd appreciate you sharing some manual settings for best video image ("AF," "Drive," "ISO" and any other settings needed) for 70D. (2) Iâve been using a Canon EF 40mm 1:2.8 STM Lens. Is this lens the optimum or appropriate lens for doing video calls? (3) As part of the manual settings for this lens, can you provide some info on the setting to get blurred background (rather than using Xsplit, Google/Zoom settings, etc.)? (4) Best settings and light conditions for using green screen digital backdrop? Appreciate your expertise.

I have a Canon DSLR 70 heats up video recording and shut down after about fifteen minutes. I see no mention of this in any DSLR for web videos. Plus is there a way to disable the camera recording the stream to the SD card, just stream? Thank you...

How is the performance as compared to capturing the same camera feed with a capture card? Are there any audio-video synch/lag issues?
I haven't experimented with capture cards all that much, but I haven't been having any sync/lag issues!

Buy an AC adaptor kit for your camera. It's basically a camera battery except with a cable that connects to your power outlet. If you own a Canon camera, you may choose to buy the OEM version but it's very pricey, so you may consider getting an off brand version on Amazon for much cheaper.

Works great with my 760D (T6s) and M50 ,I had to disable WIFI/bluetooth/NFC to get it to work,audio has to come from laptop mic.

I need your help. I have the Canon SL2, firmware is updated, I have
the webcam utility. Using OBS, with 2 other USB webcams. I want to switch
between the 3 cams, using the "auto" feature in OBS [that works].
When using the Canon as a Source with the USB cable, the shutter opens, and
I get a clean picture. When I click a USB webcam as a Source, the Canon
shutter closes, and I then see the USB webcam.
HOW CAN I PREVENT THE USB FROM CAUSING THE SHUTTER CLICK?
No one on youtube talks about this issue...everyone must mute their mic, so
we dont hear the click. I cant imagine...what if someone uses 3 DSLR cams
with OBS? Does it click between each cam take? That would be unacceptable.
So, I uninstalled the EOS Utility, plugged in usb to the Canon, to a capture
card, turned the Canon ON to the camera mode...plugged the USB into my
laptop, and the Canon preview screen went black...no life at all. Then in
OBS, it doesnt recognize the Canon's USB.
This is maddening.
The DSLR is NOT plug/play friendly. I just want to turn the Canon ON, then
in OBS, be able to switch to another USB cam, then back to the Canon, then
to another USB cam....all with silence. Is this possible?
