Here is another full episode of Press Your Luck. This is episode 187 as recorded from GSN in DVD quality. This is where Ed Long gains the championship just before losing to an infamous contestant...
Yeah but if you watched the show, he looked like he was legit happy for Michael after the game and in all documents he was happy for him and really impressed he did what he did. I guess he can't complain he won some money in this game and a Washington D.C. trip.
@Sheldon Cooper Vicki probably still wouldn't have gone on to that game; she only needed $6525 to retire right here, and had $9643 when her first Whammy came calling.
Ed Long: I wanna be back for FOUR MORE GAMES! Michael Larson: Okay, you sit there and watch while I get FOUR WHOLE GAMES' worth of spins and win FOUR WHOLE GAMES' worth of money and prizes! Fun fact: The whammy that Ed hit on his first spin (before winning the game) was the exact same whammy that Michael hit on HIS first spin (before winning THAT game).
I wouldn't feel too bad for Ed, he still left with 9,000 plus in cash and a trip to Washington D.C. to go with his wife, plus he was part of history with Larson. While I'm sure he was upset he lost next game he still won some nice prizes.
+Robert Bittlingmaier indeed. You can kinda tell that, while he was disappointed he couldn't win more bucks, you can tell he still respected the fact Michael did what he did, and was legit concerned about him the further he went along. Janie on the other hand, yeah, she was sporting enough to be on the special talking about what Michael did, and she didn't win anything, but she comes off as kind of bitchy about the whole thing.
I don't know. I think knowing that I'm now part of game show infamy and featured in an episode people are still talking about over 30 years later is just as good as the $11,000.
LOL Yeah...I can imagine she would have been mauled miserably by Larson. I can't imagine the conversation Ed would have had against Vicki after he told her that he got destroyed by an unemployed ice cream driver with over $100,000+.
Show 187: A baptist named Ed Long wins $11,516 before an unemployed ice cream truck driver steals the show. The next episode, we see a bearded man from Ohio make history and create gameshow infamy. His name was Michael Larson who made more than $100,000 in one day. In fact, he won $110,237 making him the all-time biggest winner on Press Your Luck.
bryce rushing Michael was unemployed and used his time to study the show over and over to figure out the patterns. Ed, my his own admission, only watched the show once before coming on. He was employed didn't have time to study patterns he didn't know existed.
I'm happy for Ed Long. Pretty excited, enthusiastic guy, and I can think of much worse people getting a stack of cash and a trip to D.C. But a minister guessing an E size is the max regular size for a bra? Was that wishful thinking? Never mind Michael Larson, this is the REAL scandal! >;-P
I wonder if Ed or the other contestant from the Michael Larsen episode ever talk about the Michael Larsen episode. I know that was a long time ago. Ed was a great contestant.
@@PipeGuy64Bit Back then it normally was. I feel today lots of shows wave that rule. Like the price is right has waved that rule for a very long time. But this was sure rare back then
Ed Long had already met the infamous Michael Larson by this point. The two had spoken in the audition room, where Michael had asked Ed if he had seen the show. Ed replied that he had, maybe once or twice, and Michael glared as if Ed was stupid. Michael later told Ed, he hoped they wouldn't be playing against each other. Initially the ones who interviewed potential contestants were reluctant to let Larson on the show, as they sensed he was up to no good, but Executive Producer Bill Carruthers, bought Larson's claim to be "A small-town plebian desperately in need of a chance to win some money" seeing it as a good sob story for the show, and let him on, (a decision he'd later regret). This was the third of five episodes taped that day. Michael's episode was the fourth.
So what if Ed had to face against Michael Larson? At least he won a good chunk of money ($11,000). I felt bad for Janie Litras. Both on PYL and Whammy! she wasn't able to win anything. It's pretty interesting to see how Ed's first whammy, first spin as well had the same Whammy animation Michael got for his first spin and Whammy.
Perhaps they played certain Whammys at certain times throughout the game. Wouldn't be the only thing that was random at the time if you know what I mean XD
+Robert Bittlingmaier I later found out that they reset the Whammy animation queues for each episode taped on one day. Like, this episode and the Larson episode were taped on the same day, therefore, the set of Whammy animations are the same set until the next taping day.
Robert Bittlingmaier His episode was taped in one day, it was just cut into two episodes since it ran over it's allotted time. They wouldn't have the contestants stop playing for now and allow them to come back next taping. Otherwise, the technicians would've changed the patterns by then and Michael wouldn't have ran his way up to $110,237. On the next day, which was the day after Larson's episode, they immediately changed the patterns.
Actually, Beta, the 'Larson Patterns' remained in use on the show for only 1 more week following Michael's franchise-record win. Changes were made after that, a few times, until they came up with the 32 patterns that remained in use for the rest of the show's run. =P
Also: We know this now, but boy did Cindy Waite's big win just a week ago open the door for those Home Player prize wins. (She herself didn't have that spin, but the first was on that episode.) This is now the fourth Home Player prize since then.
Ah yes, Ed Long's most memorable game show experience, NOT, wahahahahahaha! At least the losers were spared the pain of being crushed by the "infamous contestant".
whammy big bank count from 6/7/84 Rerun on GSN:1/3/2006 (press your lucks first day back on the GSN's daily lineup since 2003) 1st whammy:$0 2nd whammy:$350 3rd whammy:$6,286 4th whammy:$9,643 5th whammy:$2,395 Total:$18,674
Probably the only contestant to be lucky with only 2 spins to use. Rarely, can you win a game with only 2 spins, let alone 1 given to you heading into the final round.
2:47 Has it ever been confirmed one way or the other whether or not there was a hard limit to the number of days during the $25000 limit time period? Because with Ed talking about coming back for "four more games", that makes me think 5 days was the limit from the beginning, not just when the dollar limit was upped to $50000.
Supposedly. It would just had to have taken an extremely lucky amount of unlucky wins to hit that mark with the $25k limit. With a $50k limit, a fair number of reasonable $5-10k wins with a bigger win thrown in there means it’s more possible to reach the 5 day limit before the $50k limit.
Oh, no doubt. Or having one of the wins be a 0, as was the case with both Miriam and Eric Thorson (Miriam's being a tie). Then again, both of them were defeated on Day 4.
Sheldon Cooper one of the contestants a few months prior (I believe) even made mention that he’d prefer to have gone over the $25k and end it there, rather than win, be slightly under $25k, and come back another day (though maybe depending on the taping schedule, maybe he didn’t want to have to make another trip to Television City if that was the last taping of the day)
Ed Long, this is your conscience speaking. Whammy out on this episode. You do not want to go up against a bearded individual named Michael Larson. Trust your instincts and lose the game.
The next show, Ed Long would fall into the loophole where an unemployed ice cream truck driver stole the show to become its all-time biggest winner with $110,237.
Buzzr just now aired this episode. Enjoy it while you can, Eddie; that weird dude with the beard you were talking to in the green room - you know, the guy who said he hoped he didn't have to face you on the show - yeah, he's about to put a swift end to your 15 minutes of fame...
Congratulations Ed. Now, get ready to meet the pyl master
Watching this is like watching an old sports game leading up to an iconic play.
Ed is just unknowingly getting ready to be devoured by the next contestant in the next show......
Yeah but if you watched the show, he looked like he was legit happy for Michael after the game and in all documents he was happy for him and really impressed he did what he did. I guess he can't complain he won some money in this game and a Washington D.C. trip.
Funny Ed Long 😂😂😂
I'd like to come here for 4 more games: My goodness, how Ed's perspective would quickly change as his time on PYL continued.
For Ed Long it was the calm before the storm
now i get why peter tomarken mentioned e cup brazzires in the next episode
@Sheldon Cooper Vicki probably still wouldn't have gone on to that game; she only needed $6525 to retire right here, and had $9643 when her first Whammy came calling.
And the dark clouds started to move in on Ed Long...........
Sheldon Cooper it ascended into both, alright?
Ed Long: I wanna be back for FOUR MORE GAMES!
Michael Larson: Okay, you sit there and watch while I get FOUR WHOLE GAMES' worth of spins and win FOUR WHOLE GAMES' worth of money and prizes!
Fun fact: The whammy that Ed hit on his first spin (before winning the game) was the exact same whammy that Michael hit on HIS first spin (before winning THAT game).
Also, the last Whammy that Vicki hit would have a lot of meaning to Michael after his reign.
The last game before PYL was changed forever
Larson is being told his game is up next.
Ah yes, it's showtime...muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...
Be afraid CBS. Be very afraid.
Congratulations, Ed. Now, be prepared to face the whammy slayer!
Ed seems like such a nice guy. He even saved Pamela and Vicki from something scarier than a slasher villain.
I wouldn't feel too bad for Ed, he still left with 9,000 plus in cash and a trip to Washington D.C. to go with his wife, plus he was part of history with Larson. While I'm sure he was upset he lost next game he still won some nice prizes.
Well I'd say more disappointed than upset. He was actually pretty concerned for Michael during the game.
+Robert Bittlingmaier indeed. You can kinda tell that, while he was disappointed he couldn't win more bucks, you can tell he still respected the fact Michael did what he did, and was legit concerned about him the further he went along.

Ed Long is gutsy and funny, and cute 😂😂😂
Little did we know Michael Larson was waiting in the wings
Oh don't worry Vicki, you were actually lucky enough not to be in the next game lol
See my reply to Sheldon; even if she won here, chances are it would've been with enough money to go over the limit and retire.
LOL
Yeah...I can imagine she would have been mauled miserably by Larson. I can't imagine the conversation Ed would have had against Vicki after he told her that he got destroyed by an unemployed ice cream driver with over $100,000+.

Ed Long is a Canadian??? I had no idea. Yeah for Canada !!
I didn't know that either. All I knew is that he was a Baptist minister from somewhere in California.
And no, not yeah for Canada because this Canadian got creamed by Larson next time out!
Honestly I thought the requirement to appear on a gameshow was to be a U.S. citizen. At least that's the rule Wheel of Fortune has.
@@PipeGuy64Bit Back then it normally was. I feel today lots of shows wave that rule. Like the price is right has waved that rule for a very long time. But this was sure rare back then
Poor Ed, he doesn’t know what’s coming in the next episode
Congrats Ed, now get ready to meet your final boss tomorrow, mr. Michael Larson
Ed Long had already met the infamous Michael Larson by this point. The two had spoken in the audition room, where Michael had asked Ed if he had seen the show. And if I’m correct, I believe Janie had a funny feeling about Michael

+Beta Shadow I see. So that means they taped 3 episodes in one day then because Michael Larson's show got cut into two episodes.

well thats a coincidence because when he played against michael he also got 2 spins in the second round

Considering Michael Larson was waiting in the wings to beat the you know what out of Ed. At least Ed had more fun playing the game.
Anyone else think Ed looks like Ned Flanders?
Ed Flanders

Buzzr is airing the Michael Larsen episodes today at 2 PM.
It seems like 80 to 90 percent of the comments on this episode are about Michael Larson.
Long its my name im love this guy
Pamela looks like the Pamela from episode 167, or it is me?

Michael didn't want to go up vs. Ed.
Hey Ed still left with 11,516 from previous game and won a trip. He also got some "15 minutes of fame" being on the show lol
