You missed an episode that is VERY dark... It was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, back around the original. In the episode something happens and the entire universe starts to erase itself as the turtles try to run away while the villains attack slowly killing off the characters of the entire series, I think I remember it as possibly a finale or everything resetting, I don't know

Truth. When I was little I was always rooting for Tom and couldn't stand Jerry. Despite the fact that he's the predator and much bigger, Tom is clearly the underdog of that show because he NEVER wins, Jerry always wins no matter what.

I didn't really like that Powerpuff Girls episode. It was sad in the end, but also, it was kind of creepy with the explosion having no sound.
It was sad but in hindsight pretty funny considering the whole trope of adding additional characters and forcing them in which is exactly what happened in the new show
It reminds me of how Martin Scorsese uses silence in dramatic and intense moments in his films.

i could never really understand how a cartoon episode could be "dark." heck i felt ABSOLUTELY nothing during the bunny episode in ppg.
"The Way of the Dee Dee" feels more relevant as society marches on and understands people who are neuroatypical and/or introverted, realizing that those qualities that can come off as curses allow an individual to navigate their world in a unique way.
That Simpsons episode is terrible, Tom and Jerry so dark, and South Park episode is depressing (why is Stan's Mom so controlling about what CD he receives as a gift?)
That Phineas & Ferb episode really scared me regarding their Mother. Damn Bunny killed me.

Its more on the thoughts behind the acts, tom doesn't hunt jerry for food. He does it either to torment him or because his owners tell him to. Either reason is wrong in the eyes of god and heaven

Its insane how many sins we "commit" in our everyday lives, you're technically not allowed to hate anybody. But in the eyes of judgement its not right for tom to hunt him because there is no need for him to do it.
@@kek848 actually I see where the problem is. Tom as an anthopomorphic character has two parts, you prioritize seeing him as humanz individual, when I see him more as a cat. That's what the difference is.
About that Simpsons episode... Springfield isn't the meanest town. I actually view it as how our world really is. Insecure people will keep bothering you even when ignoring them. They don't care. Anything to make them feel good. And to especially look good in front of their friends.
I was 19 and my co-workers are 40+. They would constantly talk about me and be mean to my face even when I ignored them. It got to a point where a manager of my department reported a lady for me because she heard about the rude behavior towards me. She got called into the office and had a talking.
I overheard her saying that I could not have reported her because I was too nice. To me, thats upsetting because that's basically saying that i'll take a beating willingly because i'm too nice.

Yeah, the Phineas and Ferb thing was creepy, but it was just Candace's dream. But then she commented seeing Perry as a secret agent, OWCA agents burst through the doors and take the family, and Monogram tells Perry that he's being reassigned, to which that was just Perry's dream. That was the creepy part to me.

Phineas didn't even finish his cereal. I don't know why, but that two seconds became the funniest moment of my life, and still is today. But yeah, there's a lesson in that episode about why the world needs creativity. Or at least that's what I took from it.
A really sad and dark episode for me is Courage The Cowardly Dog's "Rememberance of Courage's Past". I cry every time I watch that one.

For the south park thing made me think it was more about depression. Everything sucks, you can't find happiness and some people don't understand. I remember by the end he becomes a functioning alcoholic.

The family guy episode has comforted me many times when i thought about suicide, and I've seen it at least 5 times I'm thankful that creators air dark episodes cause it makes me feel less alone in my troubles

Jeez, I hated that Simpson Episode. Just seeing Bart Simpson being harassed by an entire town to the point of him trying to commit suicide is just too hard to watch.

Tom And Jerry is one of my favourite cartoons. "Heavenly Puss" being one of my favourite episodes.

Why would the mom be mad at Phineas and Ferb? They built a flying car her children might get the Nobel prize! I mean if anything she would be proud that her kids are geniuses.
On one hand, I feel most parents would probably be very proud (massive understatement) of their kids if they did and probably help them get a nice future doing what they love (and likely making tons of money in the process)
On the other hand, where exactly do they get the materials to build the stuff they do?

Phineas And Ferb: A show about 2 kids that make machines that are so technologically advanced that they could change the world and even the universe forever, and use them for their own petty purposes and somehow have them disappear or destroyed at the end of the day.
I remember the thing they build fell on their house and that's why Mom got so furious. Dangerous crafts and all...

The Phineas & Ferb episode doesn't end there: As Candace recounts her dream to the family, she adds the detail that Perry was some kind of secret agent. Ferb jokingly suggests that that's where he goes all day.
Suddenly, government agents storm the house and one whispers to Perry, "You're cover's been blown," (or something like that) and the platypus gets taken away from the Flynn-Fletchers forever.
Until HE wakes up and it was just his dream... Of Candace's dream.
Wow, that Bart Simpson episode was just wrong. Anyone who's ever been bullied (and really, isn't that just about everyone at one time or another?) should feel uncomfortable seeing that.
And your #1 pick was spot-on. This was the episode that cemented Brian as a character with depth on Family Guy, despite his frequent douchebaggery (attempting to pick up woman: "Have you seen my Nobel Peace Prize around here? I must have dropped it..."
I have seen that Bart episode and that episode is dark because Bart is driven to suicide
I've watched every season of The Simpsons (at least, the ones that were put onto Disney +) and admittedly forgot about this episode. Seeing it as someone who had been bullied severely moved me to tears almost. It reminded me so much of that time.

When I watched that South Park episode, my immediate comment was, "I think that might have been the series finale of South Park. I think that was their way of saying they don't want to do it anymore. I... I think that was it." I immediately went to the internet looking for news articles about the show ending. I was so sure the show wasn't coming back.
And then the show came back, and I didn't know what to make of it. And shortly thereafter, South Park hit a new stride, and started putting out the best seasons they had ever made.
This is why I hate it when cartoon shows these days are afraid to deal with real world or dark themes. Its not like I want children to see mass murders first hand or anything like that, but I think its good to place their favorite characters in scenarios and subjects that force the viewers to think and question the world around them as well as themselves too. Its important to see that while some situations don't always have happy endings, there's still a life to live after the dark moments do happen. Shows like Hey Arnold, Static Shock, Doug, these are shows that taught me things like that as a child and I'll always remember them

I'm surprised that Gravity Falls: Dipper and Mabel VS the Future didn't make this list. That episode kept getting sadder and sadder, until it finally ended with the villain causing the end of the world. That episode was dark, and I don't think it gets enough credit for how sad it was.
For what I can remember, Tom and Jerry are actually best friends and that's why Tom always successfully fails at getting rid of Jerry so he can live in his house

I only watched 3 episodes of the anime, 1 episode of the reboot, and 10 episodes of the original (most of them when I was a toddler because I was Obsessed with superheroes)
He's happiest in his lab and Dee Dee just turned him into a deranged version of herself. She deserves to feel guilt and self-blame.
She did manipulate him into acting deranged. Somehow I feel like it’s a subtle PSA for teaching kids not to ignore manipulation or peer pressure when it arises

How is Jurassic Bark from futurama not on here? That was a sad episode of futurama. Fry’s dog waited his whole life for him to come back and he never came back and he died.

I don't really like Flippy as a character, but that episode is one of my favorites in the series because of how different it is.

I have no problem with the new voice actors or the fact that they cut mrs. Bellum out but the fact that CN is trying to push being "hip" is just really stupid

Almost the entire Season 20 of South Park is dark, considering the presence of a character named Lennart Bedrager. The guy is introduced as a guy who wants a world rid of internet trolls, but it turns out that this guy is a troll himself, and planned to troll everyone including Skankhunt just to start World War III just because he thought that was hilarious!
Honestly, that was one helluva good season. I couldn't stop watching it once I started it.

Great job!! Re Tom and Jerry, one could do a whole video about how dark it could get. That one where he was about to let a train run over him was certainly over the top, but one episode that has always bothered me was "The Two Mousketeers", where Tom was executed! I can still remember first seeing that episode at five or six years old, and feeling pretty sad for Tom. It's unbelievable to this day that they could have had an ending like that.

I just found it dumb and annoying as well as ugly so I was just happy it went away but I wish they didn't make the episode. A much better one is the hunchback episode from Courage The Cowardly Dog though I didn't find it good as a kid since there was no real threat or action

You're getting old is the best way I could describe what depression is like for someone who doesn't have it. I too started showing symptoms at around 10/11 and it all was very similar. I became cynical and disinterested in everything around me and I pushed people away. It's common for depressed people and the episode captures it so well

I despise that episode of Dexter so much, to me that is Dee Dee at her most horrible, she criticizes Dexter for being mad at ruining everything he loves and shunning his way of quiet creativity and in the end when she see's her way of life is destructive and cruel through his actions, shes only sorry to see Dexter like that instead of seeing what a horrible monster this normally makes her, for that reason I always hated her character and saw her as the worst fictional older sister since in the Opera episode we see that she's done this since the very day Dexter was born.
