Agree, this Criterion announcement was insane! So many great releases, actually first in a long time where I want to get all of them! It was a long time since that happened! And even if I'm a bit surprised over Risky Business being added I like that they add more widely popular films and not only the smallest and rarest films (and as you mention, such films can get a boost from new Criterion fans being dragged in by more popular films like this and lets say... Thelma & Louise) even if those are the main focus/mission from Criterion.

But I definitely hope Le Samourai is upgraded in the UK as well, I just finally watched the previous Criterion disc in anticipation of this announcement and the hope to upgrade. I am not planning to go region free either, there are so many movies out there that I won't anyway be able to watch everything and I'm ok with letting the market restrictions make the decision for me in what I'm going to miss *. I just purchased a streaming file in HD of the Turner Classics Anniversary cut (116 min.) of PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID for 5 bucks here in the US. It looked surprisingly good, so I expect the Criterion release will be exceptional with it's fully-packed set of extras and the other cuts. I saw this in the theater when I was in high school and the audience consensus was basically that bad Peckinpah is better than none. Watching all three cuts in retrospect will be interesting and the "Passion and Poetry" documentary and commentaries will be probably worth the price of admission on their own.
