Prisoners should NOT have access to the outside media. Period. What is the purpose of prison if they get all these privileges?
I think allowing inmates to have privileges like that is criminal.
I was frankly shocked, to learn that they have laptops and phones to use.
I am appalled that prison inmates are able to have that much access to media.

Because they have more rights than their victims who suffer for the rest of their lives. The prison system is pure evil. They reward evil and continue to do so.
Why do all of these murderers think they are now movie stars/celebrities. Alex and Chris Watts make me sick to my stomach! Why in the heck do they have phones and tablets. It is like the only thing they are interested in is being noticed!
I think Alex will do anything and everything he can to get this case turned over including jury tampering perhaps.

Very very slowly, if ever. He truly feels superior and that he is above the other inmates, the rules, and system. He still thinks he will walk away from this and return to bring retribution to all who dared to cross him. He lives in his own delusional world. You're exactly right, if he ever gets it, it will be a very very slow process.

It was Griffin who has arranged for Murdaugh to give the interview. Was Griffin getting paid? Griffin has a propensity for breaking rules and regulations -- and the law?
Convicted murderers should get “three hots and a cot.” PERIOD. Alex hasn’t learned one thing behind bars.
His lawyer should have known better 😂. Alex has never felt the rules apply to him. IMO.

Alex playing games in prison just like any Narcisstic Psycopath. Prison should be prison no toys.
In my opinion, prisoners should not be allowed to have a cell phone or computer. Phone calls should only be made from prison facility telephones where every word is recorded. Length of call should be short and strictly enforced. The prisoners aren't just on some kind of preschool time out. It's prison and for some, like Alex, it's for committing murder(s). It's appalling the kind of privileges inmates have these days. Alex will never ever be an honest, trustworthy person. Never has been and not likely to ever be. I am completely disgusted by him and his "entitled" and too well connected family.

My little brother abuses the tablets and phone calls in Hays State Prison in GA and it never STOPS. I will not accept illegal calls because I don't want to get in trouble for his irresponsible decisions making. He is suppose to be in life from killing my grandmother and being with minor sexually! Makes me sick
Inmates with life sentences should not have such privileges. Alec took that away from Maggie and Paul. Why should he be able to enjoy such "amenities" , Imo. And Alec lying? Surely not!! 😮(A little sarcasm there). Thank you Karen for coming on and reporting this to us. God bless you all!

I don't think they should have access to all of that. That's just crazy!!
Some of the folks in the prison are not murderers, or violent. Not having access can cause them to have psychotic breaks-and if their only human interaction is with other inmates, arguably they just become worse over time because these people become their ‘family.’

I agree for the most part. I've wondered why lifers can take classes when they won't be needing the skills to apply in society. I think access to entertainment, classes, etc. are fine for prisoners not serving a life sentence. Lifers, on the other hand, should be doing hard labor. They shouldn't have time for anything else. Of course, there are those few inmates serving life sentences who are wrongfully incarcerated, so education and access to the outside world via technology will hopefully be of value to them if some day their sentence is overturned.

Good to see you, @Karen McDonough. Laws and rules are only suggestions to this inmate. Privileges are just that - a privilege, not a right. This inmate has earned the right of no privileges. He deprived two people of their right to live in this world. 30 days isn't long enough for denial of privileges.

Alec’s lawyer should get mote than just a stern letter. He knew what he did wasn’t allowed, but did it anyway. I guess with he and Alec, it takes one to know one.

Because prison phone calls/tablets/canteen are a BILLION dollar industry in the US.
Since at least 2015, tablets have been allowed to prisoners to entertain themselves, educate themselves and maintain communication with near and dear ones so they can foster skills and relationships to better reintegrate into society upon release. More info on Google

If someone is serving life w/out parole, they should NEVER have access to any internet or phone privileges! (Except their lawyer) Why should they get to do anything? There victims sure aren’t able to….just saying

Personality disordered people like this think differently. The rules are for us, not them. They will always try to violate boundries, its a game to them. They can't feel real remorse for their crimes because they don't care. Prison is just a new game and new people or objects to manipulate. Could be referred to as wolves in sheep's clothing, looks human on the outside, pure predator on the inside! Generally when these evil ones are caught, its just the tip of the iceberg.

Why isn’t Jim Griffin brought up before the SC Bar - he knows the rules. He lives up to my impressions of him during the trial. Alex was and is despicable. Prison certainly has its privileges with the tablet, classes, phone.
I don't think it's appropriate for tgem to have tablets paid for by taxpayers. They shouldn't have those privileges. He needs to be getting off his butt and doing physical labor. Not having fun!
Dang life inside is getting better and better. Those inside have more ish then the free folks and the sad part they get it for free and we have to PAY. Lifers should have NO privileges other than food and water. I have no sympathy for anyone who takes the life of another not one ounce.

Alex thinks he's still a big fish and can do whatever he pleases. Laws don't apply to him. Glad to hear he was caught and "privileges" removed for a time period. I think penal system is too soft on prisoners. Why the heck would they need a tablet in prison? For that matter, when did online a necessity for jailbirds? Just because the technology is available doesn't mean it should be used and viewed by convicted criminals.
Prisoners who did harm to anothers should not get tablet privileges. .and phone calls should be limited to attorney calls only..
Alex proves his guilt everyday is his inmate activities-both his financial dealings, his lying, his working the system, and he will escalate to what? we don’t know. We know what got him convicted. A criminal at heart and clearly he is where he belongs.

I feel minimal privileges is fine but I’ve always felt like all prisoners should be utilized for work in some form or fashion. They should be given jobs. Every single one of them should be made to perform a job that benefits law abiding citizens. Even something menial like assembling things that go to stores for sale…..anything to occupy their time and benefit others.

I think he got less than he deserved. He should have to scrub the showers, eating hall, (whatever it's called) and kitchen floors everyday on his hands and knees for the next 30 days along with everything else. He had too many priviledges from the beginning in my opinion. He should only be able to shop for the next year with a pre-approved list of items. I probably sound like I've been a Marine drill sargeant or something. I've never been in the military. I just get sick and tired of prisoners who seem to have it too easy. Prison is not a vacation or home away from home. It should be about punishment. They made bad choices and now must pay the price. I don't feel sorry for him one little bit.

With 2 million of our population incarcerated it's safer for prison employees when inmates are able to have privledges that allow them to keep in touch with their loved ones, and if they break the rules, like Murdaugh did, then the prison warden needs to revoke those priviledges. My guess is Murdaugh will be spending a lot of time, if not the majority, in the SHU for the remainder of his pathetic life.

Imo there should b 0 ipads or phones. Let them do their time not kick back better than their victims the homeless in usa or any homeless vet!

Hi Karen🙂 It is Wrong that inmates have tablets in my opinion. Somehow, someway, they will find ways to manipulate this privilege into lawlessness.
They are criminals. They should not be given their own tablets. Watching tv as a group is more than many of their victims can do today. Books are good too. What will they be given next???
