no there is agood video that expliadn this the thing was there was some alcohol cargo and in those time alchol could be extremly dangerouse because of fumes ... so they probably at some point decided to lave the ship in the lifeboat just for a few hours to let the fumes desolve but in that time the weather changed repidly and strong winds started to drift the ship from them and they where lost in the lifeboat in the middle of the sea ...
