750+ Houseplant Tour (Kitchen-Part I) - Plant One On Me - Ep 090

- First stop on the Indoor Houseplant Tour: THE KITCHEN! (Which happens to be one of my favorite rooms in the house, if only for its inherent quirkiness).
It wasn't since Episode 23 many, many moons ago when I did an Indoor Houseplant House Tour, so I thought it was high time to have a 2018 tour, now that the house construction is (nearly) done. That's right. Construction is NOT complete, but I got the house somewhat in working order.
I'll be breaking these tours up weekly (so as to give some space for each room to breathe). Plus I went a little more in-depth from my previous tour. As you'll see, I can't go over EVERY plant because the videos would be several hours long, but hopefully this will be enough to satiate and inspire you to bring more plants into your home!

After so many years and beautiful videos, this one is still one of my favorite house tours! 💚
Anyone with anxiety drop their jaw when she casually said she's a renter? 😂 When I last moved I had three 60 lb citrus trees I had to pack with me and I almost lost my shit. Moving with plants succkkkssss
i should be studying right now, but watching this video is a bigger priority
I do hope you eventually got your studying in! Good thing this was only a 20-min video!
universal sugarcane I’d argue that you ARE studying...horticulture and not the subject(s) you should be XD
I have a paper to write and here I am lol
@@summerrayneoakes we love you ❤
I am awestruck by your little jungle! But seriously...moving would be a nightmare no? 😂
yes, that's why I never moved.
Yay for an updated plant tour 😍 feel free to make hour long episodes, I’ll watch them all!!!
I think across the house it's around an hour...So stay tuned for the others! Thanks for watching.
What I really like about your flat is that it is not stylish. It's more like different styles mixed together for a very personal composition. I get the feeling that you choose your plants more for their "soul" and not so much for trendy/stylish reasons. And I really appreciate that! In times of pinterest and instagram we need more substance and not so much "show offs". Thank you!
Mine Line everything about this comment sounds like a super low key read 😂 aesthetics is subjective. Her flat is stylish and her plants are stylish because they are selections based on her taste of style. But that's super cool you really like and appreciate her flat and plants because they aren't stylish 😂
I agree with it not being too put together and trendy but very homey and personal to her! 😊
Wow, that is a amazing setup. I only have 12 plants. I rescued my plants from the trash at Lowes. Can't beat orchids for $0.50, still with flowers. Just have to make sure they are safe for my 🐈 🐈. My one cat love to eat leaves.
Good on you for saving plants from the trash and giving them a second life. And thanks for tuning in!
James sr79 does lowes really toss that many plants?!
Could you talk specifically about lighting...what you use and bulbs and such? Just sometime maybe when you get back from your trip. Thanks, as always! And I absolutely love your wall color!
She make a group of videos on that. Can’t remember the numbers but they are fairly recent.

good memory!@@CynicalScientist261
Thank you for the walk through. Its like living in heaven. Beautiful ! Thank you again Summer.
absolutely welcome. Thanks for tuning in.
Your pants are so groovy! I love botanical clothes! And your plant pots are nearly as gorgeous as the plants in them, I feel like they are also part of the whole plant story in your amazing apartment. Thanks for this tour.
I get new ideas to add more plants to my apt. I have 100 already....thanks Summer.😊
Just watched this again. Such a lovely collection of houseplants!
Plants are my happy place. I have a monstera deliciosa that I got as a cutting and it’s put out two leaves for me now, a Thanksgiving cactus that is huge and blooms every year at thanksgiving for me (I’ve had it about 5 years), a baby rubber tree ruby variegata, a monstera adonsonii, a cactus that I’ve had about 5 years that grew from about 6 inches with no arms to around 3 feet with about 20 huge arms, and my most recent is a free sansevieria and a baby that I separated from it that I got yesterday from cvs. All are indoors for winter but the cactus definitely goes out all summer long and the thanksgiving cactus as well because the weather is what triggers it to bloom. The rest stay inside.
Wow great to see your house tour again .
glad you enjoyed. More rooms coming!
Beautiful plants. I love this episode. I watch it once a year. And enspire me to have litle bit more plants at my home thnks
Hi Summer! I have a couple of logistic questions for you. I'm working as researcher abroad (by coincidence the Netherlands) and I'm also renting my current apartment. As I share with you the passion for plants, although in a smaller scale, I'm curious to ask you: how does your landlord cope with your plant passion? And with the way you "adapted" your house to your passion (e.g. vertical green wall)? Thanks in advance :)
@Manikandan M note she has little furniture and tbh a couch probably weighs more than all her plants combines
I was wondering the same thing. I need my landlord's permission to even put a hook in the ceiling.
I lived in this house for almost 14 years. My first landlord I never met...It was one of those "send a check in the mail" landlords and "Fix your own stuff if it's broken", so it gave me some freedom to build out and grow plants. My second landlord has seemed to embrace my love for plants and even asked if I would help him with a rooftop garden on his new property!
I guess the love of plants is contagious!
Summer Rayne Oakes, thanks a lot for your explanation! So based on the story of your 2nd landlord, the best strategy is to "involve" landlords in our green passion... This sounds smart!!🤔😄
Ugh all the beautiful plants!
You have a very understanding landlord
What a beautiful space you’ve created:)
Thank you. And thanks for tuning in!
Finally a plant/apartment tour! Thank you Summer for doing this. You are a great inspiration, as always! I love your kitchen and different plant displays. 😊💚
I can’t even begin to imagine the humidity in that appartement
I’ve been watching your old plant your tours over and over again so I’m so excited for this!
So glad you've been tuning in.
Yes major upgrades @Marta Nebot Vidal
When you said 'my bird', I thought you meant a finch or parrot. I cry foul. Amazing collection.🙂
I am surprised, your videos yet to touch India, being a plant lover and not to this tropical world would leave u incomplete i guess
Your pots too stand out and make their prsence. It is such a joy watching ur videos. Bless you.
Friendly advice. I think I noticed copper pipes running along the ceiling in your kitchen which you are hanging planters from. That's probably not a good idea to begin with, but if you are going to do it don't use metal hooks (unless they are copper). The metal could cause a galvanic reaction in the copper and eventually lead to leaks.
So beautiful kitchen
Stunning! Your house is so beautiful and so do you. Love everything you do young lady💚
Thank you Sue!
yeah plant tour, looking forward to rest of rooms
they're around the corner. Thanks for tuning in!
I love your home! My place is kind of small, and sometimes I think the 25 plants I have is enough, or to many. But then I see your place and it really gives inspiration to get creative and start making shelves and other places to hang plants. Thank you for the tour of your kitchen!
you begin to see empty space as a possibility for plants.... I know the feeling.
Exactly! My kitchen is a west window, but it has an awning above the window, so not much light gets in. I would have that whole kitchen filled with plants by now!
Your home is AWESOME!! I love your varigated pachira aquatica! What are your basic care tips for your money tree ( pachira aquatica)? Watering, light, soil, etc?
I have this Pachira in my NE window but as you'll see in a future episode, I also have one directly in a SW window, which gets a lot of light. Basically they are pretty resilient but you have to water them accordingly to light quality, quantity and intensity, so I water the one in my SW window a heck of a lot more.
Your NOID Peperomia is Peperomia kimnachii, named after Myron Kimnach who passed away last month. :( He was the director of the Huntington Botanical Gardens for many years. I visited his garden once, he had some really cool plants of course... especially Echeverias... including Echeveria rosea... my favorite! You should come to Los Angeles and do a video tour of some outstanding private gardens in the area.
Very beautiful! Can't wait for part 2
Just around the corner!
@@summerrayneoakes 😘🌹
Absolutely stunning !! Wonderful 😍Green princess castle tour. Would like to see in person ..
I used to have this color in my kitchen. Beautiful!
Thanks for inviting your viewers into your home Summer! It was great to see!
so glad you enjoyed. Thanks for tuning in.
Was that one begonia also called a piggy back plant? I just picked one up , it brought back memories when I was first married in the seventies we all had those. I love these kinds of videos from you! Kippy, so cute!
The piggyback plant is Tolmiea menziesii .... different plant altogether. Their leaves actually DO produce small plants; but these epiphyllous structures can't reproduce/clone on their own. And yes, T. menziesii was very popular in the 70s.
love the hen as a pet
Watching from Philippines ❤️
I do love all your videos ❤️
Your air must be clean! Kudos for being able to keep up with each one!
So thoroughly enjoyed that tour ~ you have a horticultural Aladdin's Cave there Summer, with everywhere you look something new and different emerging from all sorts of containers and spaces. I like the way you are not afraid to experiment to see what works where, and also that you let your plants do their thing ~ especially the climbers! Your ideas and videos are encouraging me to be more experimental with my plant displays.
My very first houseplant in the 70's was a coleus. I've found great coleus seeds at, I think, Outsidepride. Individual coleus, as well as a mix. I like the single varieties the best. Seeds germ very easily at room temp., keep moist, not saturated. Plant lights help but are not mandatory. The green plectranthus is also very easy to grow from seed.
The real Poison Ivy :O Beautiful and deadly.
Miss Rayne, as an ecological model, have you got any particular diet to stick with? How can you incorporate your plants/herbs collection into your daily meal ? I can't hardly waiting for video of your homemade recipe right from your green kitchen. Thank you
Beneficial insects are wonderful.
I keep coming to this very video... I can kill even fake plants, but this video is so refreshing and peaceful ... thank you for sharing your
i have about 300 and i was just about ready to ditch half of them ,, cause i was tired of the jungle but this made me change my mind haha, thanks Susan l, here
I’m speechless. I love all of your plants and your place. You’ve been an inspiration to me for the last year. I really enjoyed seeing your plants. Thank you and I’m looking forward to the next room. :))))))
💚That feature shot of Kippy, the leaf slayer 😄, brilliant camera person.🤗
You've gotten more I had to stop a little. It's an addiction but I love it. I will get some shelves for the wall or ceiling running out of floor space. Mama LONG Greenville tx
it inspired me to have plants, more and more thanks!
love this so much
I cannot believe that you have a chicken in a NY apartment. I think I love you!! :D
I don't understand how ANYONE can remember the names of all your plants...but I know you do. Great apt...and video
Thank you for sharing your plant family. I want a cissus rhombifolia some day.
Swing shelf plants looking great
Really awesome ...love to see all plants
Awesome, Summer.. So enjoyable to watch your videos, inspires me to learn more about home gardening now than ever before....also, great editing . You are a lady and a scholar. I like the music, too - seems so appropriate for the topic...
Wow! Live-in plant nursery.
Brooklyn, a borough of many languages.
Even Latin !
maravilhoso., muito lido . obrigado por voce existir !
I love seeing these tours so much, such a dream to live in your own rainforest! I only have 9 houseplants but I've only been gardening for a year so I'm learning so much from you and from my first foray into the world of growing. Could you please show us your mirrors on the windows that you've talked so much about?
Fabulous!! I Love Watching Your Videos! Thanks for the Update! I definitely remember your Kitchen before and Once Again it was and still is Amazing! You Inspire Me to Plant Greatness!!!! Love, Dolla Savin
Lovely
Me encanta tu pasión por las plantas!
Yessss - food preparation space? I think you mean plant surfaces
Thank you so much ,,so great to see where and how they grow in a home setting. Also this gives viewers a look at other plants,, I'm also waiting on a shipment of lacewings. Lol.
tell me how you like the lacewings.
hey, here's an idea. how about you bring us shopping and video docu it. i am curious where you can buy plants in NYC or where you bought that paph orchid or even what catches your eye when online shopping. although it is definitely nice to be shown the end products of course. "before/after"... show us the "before". like, i saw your clip on unboxing plants received in the mail after your shopping for plants, i'm not sure in or online from the netherlands, so where in the netherlands if it was "in the netherlands"
You’re definitely one of my favorite youtube channels! Your space is so beautiful and so inspirational
You are living perfect life.
Love it!
Wow ur kitchen is heaven to me❤️😍❤️
Awesome and detailed tour! Loved it! Thanks! :)
Thank you for the guidance of your kitchen. wonderful!!!
😍😍😍
Where do you get the wonderful pots for the whole plants? I think that they receive too little attention. really a great selection! ☝🏻😬
Thank you! I get them from some many places, Vintage finds, local artists, I try to pick a pot up in every country I visit (if I have the room for them), Etsy, etc.
Summer- Never Mind me. I found your watering video and I'm watching it now.... You made an interesting comment that caught my ear and it reminded me about a dilemma I have experienced with my plant collection. Sometimes, more-so in my past, I have been absent from my abode for weeks at a time; two weeks, three weeks, once and awhile for a month.... and for that, maintaining watering schedules is a nightmare. I do mostly succulents and cacti and I water before I depart.... but I also have plants that need more frequent attention. What are your suggestions about coping with absentee watering?
😱😱😱😱 how did you make a plant tank like that???? Is that for plants that need to be in warmer temperatures? Can you make a video on how to do that? I wanted to be a tank pet just so I could put a bunch of beautiful plants in it but if I could just make a plant tank without the pet that would be better! 🤣
I love your style.
Loved the tour - have been anxiously awaiting a new 'remodeled' tour! Loved the variety of plants you pointed out, some of my favorites. Would be curious to hear how you care for the cissus on the sleigh - for me they seem to not want to be fussed with and parts curl up and die off, then sometimes they are very happy 🤷♀️. Have to be very careful with watering. Anyway - Can't wait for the next video!
LOVE IT! Can't get enough of your videos! Thank you!
you're most welcome. Thanks for tuning in.
I just started to watch your videos, very interesting plants you got , how do you keep them very healthy and fresh indoors .? beautiful,
I love your channel so much! Could you do an episode on unusual edible/herb plants for the kitchen? :)
Omg, imagine if you ever have to move... lol o
Ikr! I have twelve plants and I'm already worried about moving lol
Looooooovvvveeeeee your kitchen sooooooooo MUCH!😍
Wow....your place has,umm.....really evolved into something really special total awesomesauce for sur((;
... love. It!!
Absolute goals.
💚
Your plants are all pretty and they are all everywhere in the house. How do you water them the hanging plants? Do you have any problem with bugs or insects?
Good!
Really enjoy your videos they are super inspiring and uplifting. I would love to know where you get some of your more unique pots
I am starting to try and turn my suburban home into a garden. This is all so completely awesome. Would love to crash on the couch/floor and learn from you. So, completely awesome. Keep up the great work. Love seeing the walk throughs.
I really enjoy your houseplant tour in your home.. can you re do agai for 2020? :D
Beautiful plants! Thanks for the tour ! can you tell me how you deal with fungus gnats please thank you
Ep 15: czcams.com/video/SnZiLZrK-lk/video.html
Ok, I just came from plant tour 3 to find the same thing in video 1 here (more cool plants), but not what I'm wondering: How to make this wall (without plants) to begin with, in order to add the plants? What holds them? How do they all get enough light? How do you water one above that might not like water being dropped on from below? How to make it all portable to not have a nightmare when moving it? How to make the plants humid without mold? How to bring in airflow and not waste all your time making it humid? How to take plants out without a mess that need re-potting? How to automate everything and yet leave room to grow (get more plants). Just the top questions of the mind to start with. Thank you if anyone can direct me to the very very beginning source.
The DREAM video. Thank you for making this!
you're welcome. thanks for tuning in!
My grandmother could grow plants on an iceburg
Amazing! How do you keep track with taking care of them?
Lindas suas plantas e sua casa parabens🌱🌻🌵👏👍
Love your plants! Have to know if you get those gnats and what you do to keep them under control. I've tried mosquito bits, but still have them. Thanks!
Hi! I love all your plants and I want to try planted in glass. Can you please tell me how you water it ? And how much?
Thank you so much👍💖
Hi Summer! Question: your current kitchen is absolutely breathtaking, but I'm curious why you stopped keeping largely edibles there? I'm late to the game so haven't seen as many of your videos as I'd like (yet), but I saw one where you mentioned a sweet potato plant attracted too many pests, did you find that to be the case with herbs and other produce as well?
Thank you so much for doing this videoooooooo 💓
Thank you. I hope you enjoy the other ones too coming up!
